Having a good partner makes all the difference in the world. I love my EMT job right now because I have an amazing partner. I have had some bad ones in the past. I came so close to quitting multiple times
Doesn't matter if you work 1 year or 30 years this job will change you and leave you with a new outlook on life. Good luck going forward with your future plans. After 16 years as a Paramedic I still have yet to use a tourniquet. Go figure 😲
No wayyy I am an my emt course rn and it’s a struggle rn because I’m fresh out of high school and I overthink everything but I really wanna help people in distress
As someone who’s almost twenty years in EMS. And has worked as an emt, paramedic, flight paramedic and now firefighter paramedic. I have seen all types of people along the way from burnt out to the most optimistic. And I will say two things. Some people are simply not cut out for this line of work. It takes a special kind of person to want to do this and an even tougher person to survive a career in the field. Whether it’s police, Ems, fire, or nursing. I say survive because the mental toll it can take can be devastating. Which brings me to my second thought and what I tell kids starting out. Take care of your mental health because that is ultimately what will lead to folks struggling daily, leaving the field or taking their own lives. Unfortunately we have a long way as a community to go to normalize the mental health aspect of the job. As that suck it mentality is still prevalent in a-lot of places.
One thing to say and thanks for telling us this. It's rough to hear why people leave this profession but it's completely understandable. Don't let your certification go. Try to hold onto it as long as you can. It will always give you options to go back for whatever reason. And you worked hard for it ad all EMTs do.
Such a great video, thank you for sharing your insights! My RUclips algorithm picked up on your channel and more specifically this video as I was considering switching from tech design to EMS and this has given me loads to consider- in a good way! All the best for your future, I’m sure whatever you do will be great especially if you love what you do
Thank you for posting this. I just started going on week 6 and im really struggling mentally i wanna quit so bad but my dad and some of my friends dont want me to. I only got in so i can be a firefighter but they made us become emts as well. It sucks cause i care to much about what people think of me.
Hey friend, I totally get what you’re feeling, but life is too short to care what people think and to let them dictate your life. I started out as an EMT (for pre-med) and I didn’t love it either. I’m now in the process of transitioning to be an ER tech, which is a little more my speed. Remember, you can’t help others until you help yourself first. Rule #1 I learned from EMS, put your health, well-being and safety FIRST!
You & me are the same bud. This career in the medical field has a huge part in jobs like policeman & firefighters. But the mental health, physical & emotional. It’s a lot. Some can do this job but some cannot
Thanks for your service! im just starting my emt class to be a volunteer firefighter & am studying engineering. I know it must be very stressful working full time, I hope your happy at your new job 👍
me too brother, been an emt for 4.5 years.. it got old, i work in the 911 system, i dont like the chaos, drama, uncertainty of personal safety and many many other things.. im in ultrasound school still and as of yesterday am an officially registered vascular technologist !good luck to you on all of your endeavors and may you find your peace and happiness !
@@PULAG first, you have to figure out what you would like to specialize in. As for me, im an RVT and working on my RDCS (Cardiovascular sonographer).. but there are many other modalities like, abdominal, OBGYN, MSK, Pediatrics etc. Once decided you have to find a program near you that is ACCREDITED (very important!!!) and follow their onboarding process, every school is different mine was easy to get into but most programs are extremely competitive with limited seats
As someone who also lives with anxiety & cares about helping others, I'm curious what changes (if any) could be made to make emergency medicine a sustainable career.
Yoo I saw ur day in the life short and recognized the uniform I just got hired with amr in the same county lol. Sorry it didn't work out for u hope u find something better.
In my nation the uniforms of the emergency services make it easy to see who it is ! Edit: You can see 150 meters away if you are Ambulance (Red/Yellow). Fire&Rescue. Police. ...
I would’ve preferred this without music but LOVED this and the live reaction of typing your letter: you are doing the right thing, your mental health is so important! Thanks for sharing w others :) how stressful was it? I’m studying nursing and need to become an emt to get experience hours

Hello I am emt in Delhi India how can apply emt job in USA
“KIDS”
It takes a very selfless person to do this work. My own life was saved. So how is it they makes so little? 🤔

You are super cute 🥹
Uff !
Hope you are OK now !
-Have a job you like.
EMS can f. With you. And anyone else...
12 hour shifts. Wow…..thats half a normal EMS shift. No offense, but the public deserves motivated responders.
12 hrs is pretty standard in most parts where I live (Canada) it's rare to be on 24hr shifts.
I work 36 hour shifts in EMS and I personally love my job.
Would you rather have a paramedic 15 hours into their shift tired responding to your home? 🤔
People get burnt out, motivation isn’t going to keep you up or even last forever
Yeah but I think their health matters too, they need 8 hours shift and hire more EMT'S. These people have lives too. Easy to get burnt out.
thank you for your service 😭🫡
Emt doesn't pay shit you won't be able to pay your bills
