I’ve recently been looking into EMT recently, but i didnt know what a shift looked like Thanks so much for this!!! I definitely plan to sign up for a certification course sometime soon
When I was 18 I had no clue what I wanted to do so I went to school to try and be an EMT... I did a really short program and did not realize HOW HARD studying every week for whatever system we were assigned was. I ended up dropping out halfway through. One thing I continue to keep with me would be how HARD EMTs work. I miss the ride alongs but I remember going on my first one and realizing I could not be responsible for someone's life under pressure. LMFAO. Maybe one day I'll go back.
I'm always amazed at US EMS crews working 24hr. shifts. Here in Australia, we only do 12-hour shifts. Our fatigue management requires us to have a 10-hour break between shifts. Mind you our 12-hour shifts are full on, with meal extra time on just about every shift (paid double time until a meal break is finished). When I worked in a rural area, we worked 8- or 10-hour dayshifts and took an ambulance home for on call.
Just finished paramedic school in Canada in September! Only thing stopping me from graduating is 3 months of ride alongs! Ofcourse covid is bad here and no service is accepting students right now 😭😭 please do more of these videos!! There is not enough EMT/Paramedic vlog content on RUclips!!

I am an EMT-B. In Minnesota. And we don't have any Paramedics or A EMTs. We are strictly EMT-B. If we get a ALS call we use a RN or will call in a ALS unit to transport the patient. We STEMI patients via air care and Traumas go to level 1 or 2 hospitals. Where I sleep is at the end of the hall in the hospital. I was in Cumberland MD last year on a trip very nice area. I don;'t know how far you are from there. But I am paid EMT employed for a hospital that has only 1 ambulance service in their system. Rest are all volunteer or First Responder. Stay safe and I enjoy for videos. BTW Get a Stryker cot those are better on backs than Ferno. We are just getting the Liffepak 15. We have the Zoll X series and I despise using them!
I start my EMT classes in the fall but watching your vlogs makes me so excited to start! Do you volunteer there or work there. Sorry I didn't understand just that part. Thank you Debbie
