Did you say “Tap and die” set? To clean the threads.

yes you only need the die portion of it but a tap and die set will come with both. I found a die at my local ace hardware and bought just the one size I needed

How do you determine the size clamp for any filter.

In the event of emergency, put this in your bag of tricks. Buy a “coupler” as it is called. It’s 5 bucks. I’m a pool owner and recently stripped it so bad it would no longer pull tight. It had gotten old, partially stripped, and I was already fighting to get it back on. (after having to fight to get it off; should have replaced it last time I fought with it, but I forgot) I was making progress and overtightened and it stripped out completely. What now? No part to be had in a pinch; pool down. I noticed that I had good threads on the first part of the bolt. I bought a couple of “couplers” as they are called to fit and back up the barrel nut. I don’t remember the size, but I took the barrel nut with me to the hardware store to match things up. It has fine threads. A bolt used to size up the threads fit nicely with minor play in the barrel nut, but I attributed it to thread damage in the barrel nut. The couplers fit perfectly once I got them home. In hindsight, I only needed one coupler, but put the second coupler on for the few threads that it would cover for good measure. The new clamp’s trunnion (the part the bolt runs through) is now one piece. This should make things a whole lot easier going forward.
