Great video, great work looking forward to the video. Also, excited for the archimentors summit next week. Even though I've read your books I feel like your presentation will hold even more quality information and perspective.
Documenting a project from start to finish, showing each stage and detail is what architecture part of youtube has truly needed all that time! As an architecture student, I'm thanking you from all my heart for doing it! Best educational series :)
Loved it! So much in-depth information that we don't find anywhere else. I watched the whole 16 minutes and didn't notice the time passing by. Thanks for sharing this with us, Eric!
No coincidence I'm sure, there was a mid-video ad for Frank Gehry's Master Class. Feels like we get a bit of a Master Class with each one of your videos. Thanks E.R. Detailing out a clinic design today, but reminiscing about a home I designed for out on Vancouver Island. Minus the frost, they have very similar issues to overcome. Here in Alberta, it's mostly frost and rarely (never) bedrock that determines our foundations. We're lucky to find adequate load-bearing soil sometimes! LOL
As a foundation contractor I can tell you that it's HIGHLY appreciated when an architect puts this much thought into the plans. And it's always evident when they don't.
Eric, I want to say thank you. I began watching your videos as I graduated without a path from community college (I used to comment and get some responses from you!), and they were a huge factor in my falling in love with the profession. I am proud and thankful to say that years later, I have just begun my first semester at the Yale School of Architecture, and I hope to one day bring as much passion to each of my projects as you do. I saw this video today and was amazed at the amount of information you so eloquently pack into a ~15 minute video. I hope others find you and are just as inspired as I. Forever a fan, ~Cal
I love watching these as it gives me and idea of how the real world really works when designing buildings. Thank you for all the work you put into these videos.
Aloha living designing and building on any Island is challenging as you know ... this is a great video for anyone building in an island environment.... Great Job!!
Wow, what an amazing case study! Thanks for explaining the challenges, solutions, and most importantly the thinking process which adds depth to the documentation. I'm also impressed by how organized you are. I guess that's how you could be able to manage multiple lines so well simultaneously. Fascinating! Look forward to the next episode!
I honestly have to say this. Thank you !! For everything you do for us to inspire us with ideas, visions and higher level of execution. Please don't wait too long to post the continuous update
To be able to build on any challenging surfaces gives you the edge to satisfy the client in the ideal location for its view and etc. Very detail thought process and a teaser of the amount of planning needed to carry out the work successfully with minimal hiccups.
After 4 years of working in the architecture industry, now i just found this channel, and the content omg, very helpful and fantastic stuff sir, and I will start binging your videos, I really need this, thank youuu and keep doing this
This is the kind of stuff you aren't told about when you're a student 🙈 Then reality teaches you one or two things. Excellent video. I appreciate a lot the editing and the in-depth vision of the planning process and the decision-making. This material is gold 🤓👍
I just love the way you document and present your projects through these videos. The amount of attention that you give to your drawings is outstanding, each one a piece of art by itself. Can't wait to see how the final product will look like.
The timing of this video is unreal. I mean, the firm I work for has two greenhouse construction projects that would be starting this coming week (managed and overseen by yours truly). Not my first project, but you always have those nerves to shake off when it all gets started. This video has been inspiring, and it made me look into my methods and see how I could improve further as an engineer and project manager. Thank you so much for the inspiration, Erik! Stay safe and best wishes always! Looking forward to the next episodes! Cheers!
This channel is amazing! I am an aspiring architect but I'm only in high school so i don't know much about it (and I'm a huge planner so it was worrying me a bit). I have had so many questions about architecture and this channel has answered so many. Thank you so much!
...wow!. That's a beautiful and challenging site to build a house. I enjoy watching the design process and the explanations in the drawing all the way to the site. It males it more comprehensive and educational. I'm excited to see through the process and the finished building.
The site creates quite a few challenges and some interesting opportunities - the juice is going to be well worth the squeeze! Thanks so much for sharing.
Eric--thanks for another great video/resource. I am interested, like I suppose many others that follow you, in your photography process. I would enjoy learning more about some of the elements you look for when working with this media, lessons learned and any tips you could share. Again, thanks so much for all your efforts in making these videos and helping all of us "make things".
The guy at the end seemed like pretty nice guy to work with. Looking forward to future episodes. Thanks for the taking the time to film these. Much appreciated.
Wow. That is a completely different construction method than I am used to.I come from the Netherlands here we often build on concrete piles to see that our land is swamp almost everywhere. We use a concrete slab with ring beams with posts below. These posts sometimes go up to 10 meters into the ground before we encounter a load-bearing layer. Here we use a lot of bricks and other building blocks. It is interesting to see how you build.Maybe I can send you some details of how we do this in the Netherlands if you find this interesting. Good luck with the build and please keep making videos like this one.Greetings from the Netherlands!
Thank you so much for your content Eric, if you can please continue the journey of this project with us showing what worked and didn't work, what changes happened and why they did. I would really much appreciate it. Stay blessed my friend.
Thanks for making yet another excellent video Eric! Content and editing are first class. I tend to notice a lot about the details in both - it is appreciated!
Hey ,I just wanted to say your channel is absolutely amazing And it has cemented the idea I my mind to pursue a career in architecture,so thank you so so much and keep it up 😁
Eric really wonderful videos. I’m an electrical engineer working out of Nashville and I look forward to your videos greatly. You do your profession and craft proud. Great job!
Nicely organized process video. This is a great intro to young professionals and certainly clients, to give them a better understanding of how much planning needs to take place. Well put Eric!
An ICF conditioned crawlspace has become my goto foundation for my mountain builds. That separation of ground contact/finished floor make for a very comfortable living space. Nice progress Eric, let the next phase begin.
Can you get them without the webs? I considered them but cutting the webs seemed too tricky...I really like the ICF system just need the right site! Thanks for stopping by!
This is my favorite video you made. You explained things very well. I love how you went over the design decisions for the foundation choice and how it was implemented in construction. Just awesome content Eric!
Amazing video, you have a really good knowledge of the engineering principles and the practicalities of construction that go into making a structure. Not every architect can say the same.
Another brilliant video! Enjoyed seeing the decision process to narrow down the foundation choice. Also great to see the collaboration on site b/w structural engineer, architect, + contractors. Shows one happy project team! Looking forward to more
This is such a fantastic video, so interesting, and so far from any of my skills or trade interests. I always enjoy watching a well done video on something that I have no knowledge of, that's the test of an interesting video.
Another great video. I'm in a plumbing design and building science class at the moment so it was super interesting watching you think through how to insulate the foundation and plan for all the sanitary and utility systems. Loving this series
I'm loving your work, and me getting inspired day by day with this project of yours. I am sharing this particular video to my son coz I want him to know what exactly are we doing as an Architect. A Father's dream that one of his children will share the same passion and creativity.
Eric, first let me say I love your channel, and your Architecture. As an Architect myself, working for a firm in the south, we also face unique site challenges, our houses are often elevated because of flood zones for example, so we utilize post and beam construction you mentioned. I was wondering if you ever use spray applied insulation instead of batts, it's something that we commonly specify, especially for elevated floor systems, but also in attic spaces, which eliminates having to vent an attic, we've seen examples of storm water being pulled into soffit vents during hurricanes. Anyway, keep up the great work, it's inspiring.
Thanks for your comment...we're using ccSPF in the walls, roof and master bedroom floor, but for the main area of the house given what we were trying to achieve with the grade relationship the clearances were too tight to reach with the spray rig. More about this around the 4:30 mark...thanks for supporting the work here on YT, really appreciate it!

Everyone who thinks that an architect just makes a stack of printed drawing sheets... needs to see this video.
