      You are welcome. Great car mechanically. Except my AC started to blow warm air after 120k miles, hopefully it's a recall/warranty instead of having to dish out couple thousand dollars for a new condenser.

      Yes, the AC condenser is a warranty item. Mine has been replaced 4 years in a row here in Massachusetts, no cost to me.

    My Clarity has around 64k miles. After changing my tires 2 years ago, I noticed my ev range start to decline. I was getting around 32 to 36 miles. Later on my as my city driving increased, I noticed my range start to go back up. I did air my tires to around 39 psi and checked them frequently. I think the regenerative charging that happens during lots of city driving had an impact on my range. I'm now getting around 45 to 50 miles again in town while not using climate control too much.

    Thanks for posting. I hope to buy a Clarity shortly and agree with you that this car is the best option at this point in time.

      With current U.S. EV roadmap/policy, PHEV/Hybrid would still be the best choice in the foreseeable future.

      I have had mine bought it used and pay way too much but will make that up in electric mileage. I only have a 10 mile commute and plug it up like every 2nd or 3rd day, depending if I run around town that day. I really like my Honda Clarity 2018. I have had a little over 2 years. It charged to 47 when I first bought it but won't go over 38 now but that is ok, still works for me even if I do have errands to run.

    Thanks for the review. I have a Silver Touring 2018 with 107,000 miles and agree with your assessment. My only issue is that the AC unit / condenser is a fault unit. Mine has been replaced and documented at the Honda dealer in Massachusetts 4 times. Seems like after winter, my AC goes south, but i love the car for sure. Drives great, and reliability is great. I handle most of my maintenance, too, like you. Super easy to work on. I was debating buying a 2021 to add for my wife, but now I'm leaning towards a 2025 Tesla Model 3 based on the improvements in that car, plus the incentives. Lastly, the Massachusetts weather / salt and other chemicals they put on the roads here during winter make it bad for the rotors and brakes, though, but that will be the case for any car.

      I am on the same boat, looking at the refreshed Model 3 Long Range Rear Wheel Drive, with over 370 mile range and appoxt $34900 w/tax credit. I had to recharge the AC one time and would think about trade it in if AC goes bad again for the Tesla

      @nemesis9693 im scared cause my car is a salvaged title and these cars have that problem. From what i understand the part they replace it with is the same part number that keeps failing. I'm trying to do research on a after market one.

    Thanks for posting your report on your 2018 Honda PHEV Clarity with 111,111 miles on the odometer. Your heavy use reflects a grueling 180-mile round-trip work commute. At 4:22 in your review, you report that the EV range has fallen from almost 50 miles to 32 miles, a 36% drop. This would mean an average loss of EV range by one mile for every 6k miles driven. In two months, when you reach the 120k mile warranty limit, your EV range might be down to about 30 miles. Will your battery capacity then be below the 36.6Ah (66% of original) threshold to qualify for a free replacement battery? Otherwise, how much will installation of replacement battery cost? To wait longer, might replacement batteries become rare and very costly?

      I think his range drop has to do with his roof rack and the grand touring tires he put on. Those tires aren’t made for fuel efficient cars and they are heavier than eco tires. The roof rack definitely will ruin his aerodynamic.

    I am amazed at how overlooked this car is. Best PHEV ever made and I think easily. They do make it! It can be special ordered.

    I found a 2018 clarity with 60k miles for 18k around where i live. What do you think? Good price? I just want it to last for next 7 years for another 100k miles

    • @TheGizmoGarage
      @TheGizmoGarage  2 месяца назад +1

      I think the price could be better for 60k miles, as for another 7 years, for a Honda for sure. Right now there is a major recall for fuel pump and they don't have any parts to replace or fix it yet.

    Is 2020 clarity touring with 40 k miles for $22k a good deal? I can get 8k off from used ev tax credits

    • @TheGizmoGarage
      @TheGizmoGarage  Месяц назад

      That's below what my trade in value was last year 2018 model year w/110k miles for $18000, so I'd say it would be a great deal if the car has clean history and no accidents. Since it's also the touring model w/navigation and things. Mine was basic.

    Has anyone seen multi error problems on the 2018 clarity?

      @TheGizmoGarage  2 месяца назад +1

      ruclips.net/video/sGF_bbmD4HU/видео.htmlsi=0F_4ayA9r27gy6Tv I made a video on how to reset multi error messages... Basically, disconnect the battery, reset the system, and drive for a few miles, this message will disappear. Try to avoid using the same public charger.

    Im jealous cause mine won't go any higher than 38 on a good day, usually 36. Glad you get better but is that all the time?

    • @TheGizmoGarage
      @TheGizmoGarage  2 дня назад +1

      Really depends on driving condition. Pure city driving will be higher. My EV range now is maxed at about 30-32 miles with highway use.

      @@TheGizmoGarage Yup, so I guess that's the big downside with this car. When repair time comes, which it will eventually, it will be time consuming and costly.

      @@signupisannoying all parts are absurdly expensive for the clarity when you take into account what the car is worth, all said and done mine is worth 15 at most right now

    Just as a heads up, I'd highly advise against using magic erasers to clean your interior. Magic erasers are a very fine abrasive that strips off UV protection, and leather/trim dye. Instead, use a cheap steam cleaner and a microfiber towl to clean and pull the oils out that causes the seats to become glossy.
