A couple people commented that coffee / caffeine *suppresses* their hunger rather than increase it like I was saying in the video. Actually, I agree with this. Actually when I was drinking coffee, I would set my intermittent fasting schedule to where the appetite suppressant "boost" of coffee would make it easier to get through those last 90 minutes of fasting. Yes, caffeine / coffee suppresses appetite at least temporarily. However, *in my experience* (as stressed in the video, different people react very differently to caffeine and coffee), what seemed to be happening was that my normal appetite when coffee wore off was higher than usual. Though I did experience the appetite suppressant effect right after I drank it. At least for me, coffee isn't a free anti-lunch. While I do get a temporary appetite suppressant boost, the downside is that I have to pay for that with interest at a later point with a bigger appetite.
_“my normal appetite when coffee wore off...”_ See, that was your first mistake- you let the coffee wear off! You’re supposed apply decremental doses of coffee to your esophagus in regular intervals so it never fully wears off. Start by timing how long the effects of 1 strong cup lasts, then commit to drinking a new cup 15-20 minutes before the last one wears off. Constant caffeination is key!
I'm not sure if anyone else has made this comment but I noticed that you said you were fine drinking coffee with milk but still found straight coffee bitter. Perhaps it might actually be the milk if anything as regular full-fat milk has a lot of fat which could explain the weight decrease when you stopped and not feeling hungry after coffee temporarily.
Casey Chen Common issue here in the states. I dropped a couple ponds of body weight _(nearly a whole pound of just fat)_ when I forced myself to only allow black/plain cold brew coffee and ‘black’ hot coffee
Coffee causes hypoglycemia... This causes tiredness and the need to eat... This can be avoided by not drinking sugarless coffee... It's ok to add sugar to coffee... But milk is not necessary... Drinking milk with coffee is what causes the obesity.... If you are diabetic however... You should totally avoid coffee. Also hypoglycemia is also responsible for the jitters in most cases... By adding sugar to your brew you can avoid this... Too much caffeine however will still cause jitters if you are a slow metaboliser... Just like how some people can't handle as much alcohol as other people... Like me 😅 I can't handle much alcohol being an indian but I can definitely handle my coffee ! But I do get jitters if I drink it without sugar and that's because of hypoglycemia... I hope I was informative. Cheers ! @@Србомбоница86 why? Considering the pH of coffee is around 5 while the stomach is 1.5-3, the stomach is hundreds to thousands times more acidic than the coffee and in a normal, healthy stomach, that will balance out in seconds to minutes. Coffee contains negligible amounts of macronutrients so it doesn't trigger release of bile from the gallbladder. It's literally just a glorified cup of hot water with caffeine and trace minerals

I thought I had an anxiety disorder 20 years ago. I suffered from panic attacks, rage, difficulty sleeping, difficulty waking up, migraines, and itchy rashes on my legs. I weaned myself off coffee, and over the next two weeks ALL of my symptoms disappeared- it literally changed my life.
Lucky you. I had all that before beginning with coffee and tobacco. Also I began drinking coffee because of student pressure (I could not afford to sleep in order to study for those pesky exams) and then began smoking because of student stress. They probably didn't solve anything but I still think the deep causes are social-systemic and drug use/abuse is only a symptom.
@@LuisAldamiz did coffee and nicotine help you focusing? If you had trouble concentrating on boring stuff and sleep problems as well you could maybe look into ADHD a little bit. Just a wild guess but we struggle with that especially.
Thank you for sharing this. I've been trying to figure out if my extreme sudden hungers, anxieity and occasional mood triggers could be from my morning black coffee. Sad, I love coffee very much! And I limit it only once a day. But still.
@@christalwong70I'd look into an ADHD diagnosis, too. Coffee can make the symptoms worse once it wears off and all of those are ADHD comorbidities. Of course that's just a guess but maybe it'll help you.
@@mahimahi215 i replaced coffee with either green tea or black tea(with milk) whenever I got the urge to drink coffee. You don't have to necessarily drink those but look for a tasty alternative that you like! That way you don't have to interrupt your routine and it's easier to quit. (After 6 months of no coffee) I do occasionally drink a cappuccino like once a month if I want to, but now I can enjoy it, instead of gobbling my daily 9 cups like an addict. The best way to quit is to not be too strict with yourself! If you gave in, it's okay!
Yeah, I quit caffeine and nicotine at the same time. I’m far more mentally productive and less stressed, I did it after my wife had a panic attack after a coffee date, she rarely has coffee, she started having a panic attack while she was driving, we had pretty strong coffee from star bucks, something called a flat white which has about 300mg of caffeine. I did have some matcha green tea a couples months after i quit, and wow i felt like I was a wizard.
10months later, I drink one cup every once in a while. I noticed that if I stay under 100mg per day, I don't get withdrawls. I have swapped my coffee for no sugar, hot cocoa in the morning. Much less caffeine. Definitely a heathier choice than I had before.
This is SO important. I'm young(ish) (29). I used to drink one regular cup of normal coffee a day for years, nothing special. It never made me jittery, anxious, or anything like that. One night I experienced SVT (supraventricular tachycardia, you can look it up) and had to go to the hospital. Since then, I had continuous chest pain over my heart and palpitations daily. I saw a cardiologist, asked if coffee could possibly be the culprit, and he said absolutely not because "one cup of coffee a day wouldn't cause my symptoms, and coffee is even cardioprotective." Long story short, I had a CT scan, an echocardiogram, countless EKGs and urgent care visits. All normal, no answers. FINALLY decided on my own to quit coffee entirely, which was hard because I really loved my one cup. Sure enough, every single symptom VANISHED. No more chest pain, palpitations, shortness of breath. I now drink decaf coffee everyday (sadly) as I love the taste of coffee. If I ever have even a sip or two of regular coffee, chest pain and palpitations come right back. I just want to echo WIL in saying that everyone reacts differently to caffeine, and you know your body best. Plus, I definitely had no idea how much more relaxed/less anxious I'd be after quitting. Drink wisely!
I don't know if you consider this related but.. I used to drink a glass of red wine every night before bed. For years it was part of my pre-bedtime ritual. Then I started getting massive heartburn and histamine issues at night, it would wake me every 20 minutes for the entire night. Anyway eventually I cut the glass of red and the symptoms disappeared. I had a glass of red last weekend, maybe 3 years after cutting it out, and sure enough I was awake most of the night in pain. It's strange how these things reach a point where your body will just flat out reject it forever after.
He’s presenting information. That’s not the same as crusading for people do this thing or the other. I don’t think he’s recommending or necessarily “wanting”, or trying to sway people to do anything.
i literally just read a study that said caffeine reduces hunger. "Appetite suppression. Caffeine may reduce feelings of hunger and your desire to eat for a brief time." "Calorie burning. Caffeine appears to increase energy use even when you're at rest. It stimulates thermogenesis - one way your body generates heat and energy from digesting food." I found that to be much more in line with how I feel after caffeine. It's crazy how it can have such a different effect on people. For you, it seems to make you gain weight, for me, it makes me lose weight.
The appetite suppression is not because of the caffeine, it has more to do with the coffee itself. You can have the same effect from decaffeinated coffee and missing the effect completely from caffeine pills. About the calorie burning, there doesn't seem to be a consensus. Some studies claim that it helps and other that it doesn't. It also depends on when you take the caffeine, in the morning the cortisol is useful but in the late afternoon/night it could be detrimental.
I think its really weird how different coffee's effect on person to person, for me personally, coffee increased my focus, make me more social, and decrease my appetite
i think that's the key to have it in social settings or work because if ur alone after a day of caffeine your mind will create 1000 things and stress you out
Just to give a counter argument, could that not be because you've drunk it for so long that going without it causes withdrawals and then the 'benefits' of caffeine are attributed to not getting those withdrawals? I say this because I drunk coffee regularly from the age of 8 to 21 and felt terrible quitting it at first but after awhile felt better than ever.
I had those same symptoms. The digestive issues are what made me quit coffee. I am more clear headed and even tempered, and my joint pain has decreased.
Things WIL has changed in my life: - switched from coffee to tea - eat more egg - maybe worry less about meat than food waste - got a kitchen safe for my phone and another for video games - started doing the wim hof method and still do - tried several low carb diets and still aim to avoid processed sugar and fructose Keep it up!

I have anxiety and depression, and while coffee does seem to elevate my anxiety a bit, at least I don't feel like sitting in a black abyss of death, so what the hell.
I totally get and for the most part agree with what you're saying. For me who has had anxiety since I was a kid the underlying mental illness would be affected by large amounts of caffeine but not by a standard or smaller portion. I've been on meds for anxiety and that basically knocked it totally out. Regardless of how much caffeine I have during the day it doesn't affect my mental health now even in larger quantities. It just gives me energy. Now getting acclimated to the medication OMG talk about jittery. Coffee never did that to me lol. Guess it's all about how people work isn't that weird? Without the meds if I had more than one caffeinated drink I did notice a more anxious day but with them it really doesn't matter. I dunno I'm Hella grateful for the meds lol.
Suppress my hunger as well but make me more anxious. There is why I have decaf but even so I'm somehow anxious. I'll try to quit at all to see how is working
Strange that coffee would make him hungry. Stimulants generally have the opposite effect because stimulating norepinephrine releases glycogen from the liver which is why you feel energized. Although I guess the crash effect could make you eat more..
Yeah what's up with that? Sometimes nothing happens at all, other times you can't even finish the cup because it feels like someone put 7 laxatives in. I googled it once and apparently no one actually knows why coffee can have that effect.

OP please confirm, were you drinking black coffee? is the prevention of weight loss from the coffee itself, or the additives like cream, milk, or sugar?
Time for an anecdotal comment. I used to enjoy brewing my own coffee at home, but unfortunately I’m one of those people that has an early morning job and can’t get to sleep before 1am despite my efforts. So for the best part of my life I sacrificed my morning brew at home to have more time getting ready for work. Since I don’t like spending too much money at coffee places, I skipped having coffee outside of my house or at least tried reducing it to maybe 1-2 espressos a week. Fast forward until a couple months ago when the lockdown started and I was drinking half a litter of coffee every day. First my circadian rhythm was thrown off by never seeing sunlight, then I started going to bed at 3am and getting up for early web meetings at 8am and of course coffee was my go to drug. I got progressively stressed out while doing my job, I put on a lot of weight and I couldn’t understand why every time something didn't go according to plan I was enraged. I couldn’t longer exercise because my own sweat started giving me a skin allergy, can you believe that? Long Story short, I quit coffee(not caffeine) around a month ago. I’m only sticking to Mate which is an Argentinian tea, a liter of water per 40-50grs of yerba mate. I’m feeling better already. I’m more focused, I don’t get such exaggerated physical responses when things don’t go my way. I’m eating better, I’m less hungry. It’s overall easier to be the person I try to be (does this make sense to anyone? Anyway, thanks for reading :)
This may not have been from the caffeine part of coffee but rather 1 of the hundreds of chemicals within coffee. Coffee is actually a really complex substance with many different compounds within it, and some of those compounds vary based on the type of coffee, where its grown, how its processed, etc. People focus a lot on the caffeine coffee has but as a result not much is known about how these other compounds affects the body, so its possible you were having an adverse reaction to one of these compounds which is why switching worked for you.
Great comment / anecdote. Caffeine (or more so coffee, specifically) gives me dry, itchy, flaky, cracked, and increasingly painful skin after drinking only one cup a day for 3 or 4 days. Nobody else I know has this. I still drink it sometimes, but the irritation means I cannot stay with it for long.
I quit coffee and refined sugar nearly a month now, I feel more calm through the whole day, I sleep instantly after going to bed, better sleep and I wake up naturally alarmed.
my experience has been exactly as you said. I've been off coffee for the last 3 weeks and my anxiety has vanished, I can sleep for 8 hours straight and when I roll out of bed I'm ready to rock n roll! And I don't need to eat as much to feel satisfied, have lost 2-3 kg in weight too
Weirdly, coffee made me worse because I cut my carbs! Because I did, I lost most of my sodium which caffeine made worse with its natriuretic effects. Then, both missed up my HPA-axis. HPA-Axis dysfunction and low sodium is exactly what keto-flu is! So, yeah, caffeine got me into a never ending keto flu until I realized that months later :P So, heads up with your electrolytes and overconsumption.
@@yeid44 Well, it means just be careful not to chronically stress yourself with caffeine and especially when you have low sodium (which is common in keto and fasting, usually in the start). Imbalances are what keto flu are all about.
As a published researcher and PhD in the biotech, I agree with your findings: + Short-term coffee is an appetite suppressant and has a positive effect on anxiety. (BTW Smoking also decreases appetite, yet there are major negatives associated with smoking.) + Long-term adaption to coffee (and caffeine in general) has the opposite effect increasing adenosine neuro-receptors, evidence does point to coffee/caffeinated sodas as a major factor in global obesity. Summary Coffees AND caffeinated sodas (even diet) everyday are too much caffeine. Most of us need to modify our behavior. For 2 months, try substituting decaf coffee on a daily basis, with a double shot of real coffee once a week. Save your caffeine to peak performance for a race, important meeting or deadline.
Sideline, I've been kinda surprised at how many people thought I was lying when I mentioned appetite suppression was a side effect of smoking tobacco. I thought it was a well known side effect. There was even a lady teaching classes in drug rehab who looked at me like I was crazy when I said it. I think if anyone should be educated about that topic, it should be have been her.
@@craigslitzer4857 Indeed it does, and just like people report with coffee/caffeine, when that appetite suppression wears off you're looking at an even bigger appetite when it wears off. So you're either chainsmoking or you're gonna end up eating more anyways. The takeaway is to not use tobacco for appetite suppression 😂
Also, in response to the original comment, could it not be possible for "coffee" being associated to obesity be partly explained because of how much junk and sugar people put on coffee nowadays? I mean half of all Starbucks "coffee" is pretty much a coffee-flavored milkshake
@to that objectively weighing the risks of any compound is what is important, not all-out abstinence. you seem to have a strong stigma attached to any daily use of any compound. for something like coffee, the risk and negative effects are so incredibly negligible for some people, that it doesn't matter if they're dependent on coffee / caffeine. really, objectively, what's the WORST thing that could happen to someone who has a minor dependence on coffee for their entire life? is it really necessary or at all helpful to deem all who are okay with dealing with that dependence as "weak?" that's the same school of thought used in D.A.R.E. programs that INCREASE people's likelihood to use illicit compounds. abstinence and stigmatization is NEVER GOING TO OBJECTIVELY HELP THOSE AT RISK OF DEPENDENCE AND ADDICTION. objective evaluation of all potential risks of ANY COMPOUND is the ONLY way to keep people safe, not putting people down for having substance abuse issues. and beyond that, objective evaluation of the risks and benefits of coffee is extremely subjective, as shown in this video, which demonstrates that there is no broad generalization for users being "weak" for coming to the conclusion that coffee dependence is fine. I've been drinking coffee on and off my entire life. the idea that there is ONE answer for all people is idiotic. I don't have ANY of the symptoms listed in this video, and many are in the same boat as me. no one is saying daily consumption of any compound doesn't come with physiological changes. anyone who is remotely familiar with the effects of coffee knows this, and realizes that any perceived negative effects may not be present for all people, and thus, carries no risk for a lot of individuals. Imagine generalizing any group of people based upon your own beliefs and stigma. that's a WAY weaker move than having a cup of Joe each morning.
@to that I don't need coffee to wake up but I love the flavor so much so I drink 2 cups every morning. None afterwards though. I realise I sound like an addict lol.
I am one of those heavily coffee drinking finnish people. Around 5-7 cups a day. 3 at the very minimum. I have stopped drinking coffee now 7 days ago and still I have withdrawal symptoms like a steady headache which I feel like is a standard "I want coffee" headache. I have decided to stay coffee free as I'm also sugar free and basicmy carnivore so all I ingest now is animals and water. Feels better to live on your own hormones and energy levels all in all. I never used coffee for intermittent fasting or fasting, only light tea or, better, water. When I fast my body naturally prefers no coffee and no strong teas. The appetite goes back and forth for a while, but it's never biting too much.

Same. I have 2-4 cups of black coffee every morning and have no trouble waiting until 5pm to eat. I'll admit that overdoing it makes me feel stressed (and being stressed raises my appetite), but since I know that I just stick to drinking what I brew in the french press and I'm fine.
I definitely find I have a much harder time controlling my appetite when I don't get adequate sleep, and if there's one thing we all know caffeine does is disrupt the sleep cycle.

That story about that kid who passed away in the beginning is slightly relatable because the reason I'm off caffeine (a week now) is because a month ago I drank 2 double espressos and 2 energy drinks within a couple hours and it wrecked me for 3 weeks. I stopped drinking coffee for 2 months after watching this video, my opinion might be useful for someone. I noticeably feel less anxious, but didn't notice any difference in my hunger. I didn't notice any difference in my sleep quality too and it took about 6 weeks to really feel like I don't need coffee do be productive. Another effect was that I was getting tired faster when exercising. My conclusion was that it comes with positive and negative effects, and I do miss that special time of the day when I have my coffee with my favorite mug, however, it is not worth for it's dependency to be productive and the anxiety it gives me.
I dabble in some homemade chai every once in awhile, especially if I've gotten very little sleep. I don't feel dependent on it at all. Perhaps try some teas?
"… started again drinking two caffe latte in the morning". Drinking coffee for you, also with respect to having appetite, seems to mean also drinking a lot of milk…
yeah that makes no sense since coffee has almost no calories and has appetite supressive effects, milk in the other way is a very caloric and carb dense drink that trigers insulin alot depending on how much lactose has in it, the less fat has in it the more the spike on insulin.
@@jamesbizs Very simplistic. We have 2 energy modus. One for Fat energy and one for carbs. After some hours you switch in the fat energy modus. If you get carbs your body switches and expects more carbs to come. So if you drink coffee with a lot of milk you get hungry. Same reason for fasting. Coffee is fine to not break the fasting effect but only without milk.

When I quit smoking , I replaced smoking breaks in office with coffee breaks and noticed significant increase in anxiety. One day I had 2 espresso shots back to back and felt like having a panic attack.
I finished Caffeine Blues a while back and I've been anticipating a caffeine video from WIL. Quitting caffeine makes mood and energy feel cleaner, more stable and more consistent. It took at least two months for me to notice improvements which accumulated steadily. Many who quit expect results within a week.
As a regular caffeine drinker for the last 6 or 7 years, who has also experimented with significant breaks of varying lengths, and has also experimented with different nootropic compounds that both enhance and diminish effects of caffeine, what I've concluded is this: caffeine can have vastly different effects on people as a result of individual body and brain chemistry. Prolonged caffeine use can and usually does affect things like short term memory, intrinsic motivation capability, sleep quality, and even may be have some link to increase in depression. Caffeine is a drug, and like any drug, daily, long-term will have effects on us, and for some people those effects can be more negative and debilitating than for other people. And as such, ceasing caffeine use abruptly can also introduce some temporary negative effects. For me those mainly tend to be in the form of severe depression and lack of motivation, difficulty maintaining focus, and difficulty staying awake during the day. HOWEVER, I have found that after a while, these symptoms disappear. But that "while" can be a very, very long while, longer than you may think. I've heard of people who stopped taking caffeine almost a year ago and still don't feel quite normal. I think we underestimate just how much daily use of a drug can affect brain chemistry long term. I am not advocating for anyone to quit caffeine, but I think the effects of caffeine have been understated for far too long, and people should be more educated on what this drug can do to a person. All this said, at this time, I am still using caffeine on a daily basis, but have tried to keep my use to around 200mg per day or less. And man oh man, is it difficult to quit, even if I really want to. Caffeine has got to be the most easily obtainable, readily available drug in the history of humanity. And as any addict knows, keeping your DOC out of sight and out of mind is key to overcoming any addiction.
I love black coffee, but it gives me the worst shakes and anxiety. Green tea however! i can drink and enjoy the slight mental boost without any jitters or anxiety.

Fair enough. A sweet, strong, creamy coffee is one of the absolute pleasures of my life. I only have the one, with my breakfast. The enjoyment it imparts to me is on a par with fillet steak. Absolute joy.
I feel like the ammount of times you quote papers has drastically decreased, as a matter of fact when you mentioned Coffee, Belly fat, Anxiety, Cortisol links those were drastically oversimplified or i didnt look at the right papers. While it is true that coffee increases cortisol levels it also inhibits other chemicals within the body which "suggest" fat loss, in turn it isn't so surprising that drinking coffee and weight gain aren't correlated, and after you've mentioned clearly that no correlation has been found you then run around it to suggest such correlation, it feels to me like the point is forced.
But I agree with him as I've experienced rather than surveys which may change conclusions the next day and keep changing. I think for weight loss, its not better than hot water, I've seen
Coffee initially suppresses my appetite, but once the caffeine crash happens, it seems like the only thing that restore my vitality is food, and preferably sweet food.

Coffee is a strong diuretic. I makes you loose a lot of natrium(sodium). It's just funny how the caffeine withdrawal symptoms overlap with hyponatremia symptoms. Of course you start craving food after coffee. Especially salty food. Disclaimer: this is just what I think happens. At one time in my life I was prescribed carbamasepine to treat panic attacks. This medication controls the sodium channels. And one of its side effects is hyponatremia. I took the pills for a few weeks and developed a very strong thirst that would never go away, no matter how much water I drink. I stopped taking these pills, but later I discovered the same thirst when I would drink coffee every day. I would feel physically and emotionally drained, and would feel hunger and longing for food. I think it's all connected. Maybe you should dig more into diuretic properties of caffeine?
Was awake 5 days once and went to work. Normally I'm crazy anxious around people. That day I was as cool and relaxed as Ive never been before or since. But this only is noticable once you get through the "hard part", the part where your body actively tries to go to sleep and there is little to no distraction to keep you awake. After that part there was this blisful moment. Felt amazingly calm, confident. Sleep deprivation is crazy.
Not if you've got ADHD. It helps with the symptoms, makes it easier to focus, gives you better impulse control and improves your short term memory. That said it's way more harmful and ineffective than Adderall so it shouldn't be the main solution for ADHD.
It's always interesting to know how different these substances are for everyone. Coffee for me decreases appetite, or at least makes me somewhat nauseous so I don't want to eat.
On a carb diet, I constantly feel sleepy and lethargic, so I end up taking more than 1 or up to 3 coffee a day, just to keep myself awake through the day. Stop carb, and you will either need 1 or no coffee at all. Now I feel my 1 coffee every morning is just out of habit, and not a necessity. That's my relationship with coffee. I wonder if that is what everyone also goes through
Totally agree. On a high carb SAD, I was blowing through a giant 20 oz tumbler of coffee (probably 4-5 cups). But then I was fat, lethargic, and highly inflammed in my joints. Went keto in 2018, and got down to just one 6-8oz cup. I don't NEED to have it now, and I have it only once or twice a week. My anxiety and energy has definitely improved since I stopped drinking so much of it.
Jitu Teron I definitely drink less coffee on a low carb diet. Typically just one cup a day (sometimes none) compared to 3+ with high carb. (I don’t handle high carbs well, though.). This reduction happens without me trying or thinking about it. It’s spontaneous. Even more interesting is how I spontaneously stop drinking coffee altogether when fasting. Not only do I feel I don’t need it, my energy increases so much that it doesn’t seem appealing.
On day 4 reducing my coffee intake. On Day 2 I only had a cup of decaf and experienced severe headache and nausea, my energy was so low. This day made me realize that taking a break from coffee is something I wanna try out. I will give it a month. Thanks for uploading this great video! Cheers in herbal tea.
I quit coffee for two weeks but had some (1/4 tsp) matcha tea powder mixed in my homemade electrolyte lemonade and had NO caffeine withdrawal from the absence of coffee whatsoever!
Quitting any addiction cold turkey is going to come with some major side effects. I usually take 1-2 weeks to successively reduce my caffeine intake to 0 and skip the headaches, but the length of time it takes will be dependent on how much you drink and for how long you've kept it up.
Agreed. I think we can all improve our mental and physical health by being conscious of our sedentary lifestyles, social media usage, lack of sleep and poor nutrition. all of the above put us on a cycle of poor health and I think it can only be described as a general sense of hopelessness..
I quit coffee for 6 weeks a while back. After a few days, I noticed my fingers had more sensitivity, like I had increased awareness from the perspective of my hands. It sounds weird but it somehow made me feel more… alive.
I often go through periods of quitting coffee followed by gradual relapse(it's nice to have a warm drink in the hand). But more recently I've been doing daily crawling exercises and have noticed that my reaction to coffee seems to be different, both more dissatisfied with its taste, and less of an obvious reaction, so I am cutting down once again. While I've always done exercise, the contralateral movement in crawling is said to be highly stimulating to the nervous system and can improve your coordination and athleticism(The Bioneer has a great video on crawling that discusses this in some detail), which suggests that it would hit all the adenosine receptors mentioned in this video and push up their fitness, changing the cycle of caffeine response. I've also noticed that loud sounds in the city sound louder. My hypothesis is patchy, but it seems like the change in exercise is actually improving my senses, and also how I respond to coffee. But it also makes sense the other way around with your hand sensitivity - no blockage of the receptors means better senses.
I struggled with anxiety all my life. After watching some videos of yours, and reading about its relationship with neuroticism, now I drink it ritualistically. I intended to quit coffee, but realized life was really boring without some coffee here and then. So now I use dosing spoons and restrict my daily intake for a fixed amount. Now I have best of both worlds. ☕
Nice, it's great that you found something that works so well for you. Personally I quit coffee out of my daily routine and switched to black tea. If I go out to a coffee place I really like though I will get a cappuccino or some other coffee drink Hopefully I'll be able to switch to green tea or herbal tea later on.

FYI, coffee is being discouraged by Therapists :) because they know the build-up of anxiety is real. I stop drinking coffee about 2 months already and the results baffle me. No more trouble sleeping and my panic attacks are gone. I feel refreshed and not anxious during the day which helps me focus on work. I switched to turmeric, lemon grass and ginger tea which are really nice and have more benefits than coffee.
the more you drink coffee the more you deny reality of addiction, my mother says she isnt addicted, but cant go 1 day without it. My gf stopped drinking and got a heavy witdrawal, sadness, apathy, headache, depression, extreme cravings. I only take caffeine if I need to stay awake, it is amazing for that. All the people i know who started using caffeine became more aggressive, anxious and emotionaly unstable.
You have to wean off of it. I think denial of addiction to coffee is kind of silly, like, no, your body is dependent on it and you will suffer without it.
_“my normal appetite when coffee wore off...”_
See, that was your first mistake- you let the coffee wear off!

Drink wisely!
weak
Thank you for sharing your story!
Wow, interesting.
I wonder if your chest pain is a severe panic attack? The caffeine overstimulates your nervous system?
I don't know if you consider this related but.. I used to drink a glass of red wine every night before bed. For years it was part of my pre-bedtime ritual. Then I started getting massive heartburn and histamine issues at night, it would wake me every 20 minutes for the entire night. Anyway eventually I cut the glass of red and the symptoms disappeared. I had a glass of red last weekend, maybe 3 years after cutting it out, and sure enough I was awake most of the night in pain. It's strange how these things reach a point where your body will just flat out reject it forever after.

"Calorie burning. Caffeine appears to increase energy use even when you're at rest. It stimulates thermogenesis - one way your body generates heat and energy from digesting food."
I found that to be much more in line with how I feel after caffeine.
It definitely suppresses my appetite. It can be problematic because I will effectively skip meals then wake up very hungry early the next day.

As a published researcher and PhD in the biotech, I agree with your findings:
+ Short-term coffee is an appetite suppressant and has a positive effect on anxiety. (BTW Smoking also decreases appetite, yet there are major negatives associated with smoking.)
+ Long-term adaption to coffee (and caffeine in general) has the opposite effect increasing adenosine neuro-receptors, evidence does point to coffee/caffeinated sodas as a major factor in global obesity.
Summary
Coffees AND caffeinated sodas (even diet) everyday are too much caffeine.
@to that objectively weighing the risks of any compound is what is important, not all-out abstinence. you seem to have a strong stigma attached to any daily use of any compound. for something like coffee, the risk and negative effects are so incredibly negligible for some people, that it doesn't matter if they're dependent on coffee / caffeine. really, objectively, what's the WORST thing that could happen to someone who has a minor dependence on coffee for their entire life? is it really necessary or at all helpful to deem all who are okay with dealing with that dependence as "weak?"
that's the same school of thought used in D.A.R.E. programs that INCREASE people's likelihood to use illicit compounds. abstinence and stigmatization is NEVER GOING TO OBJECTIVELY HELP THOSE AT RISK OF DEPENDENCE AND ADDICTION. objective evaluation of all potential risks of ANY COMPOUND is the ONLY way to keep people safe, not putting people down for having substance abuse issues. and beyond that, objective evaluation of the risks and benefits of coffee is extremely subjective, as shown in this video, which demonstrates that there is no broad generalization for users being "weak" for coming to the conclusion that coffee dependence is fine.
That story about that kid who passed away in the beginning is slightly relatable because the reason I'm off caffeine (a week now) is because a month ago I drank 2 double espressos and 2 energy drinks within a couple hours and it wrecked me for 3 weeks. I'm feeling so much better now that I'm free of caffeine.
Agreed
I dabble in some homemade chai every once in awhile, especially if I've gotten very little sleep. I don't feel dependent on it at all. Perhaps try some teas?

Drinking coffee for you, also with respect to having appetite, seems to mean also drinking a lot of milk…
And?
@@jamesbizs You can't say that the effect comes from coffee, especially since milk has a lot more calories. Etc, etc.
yeah that makes no sense since coffee has almost no calories and has appetite supressive effects, milk in the other way is a very caloric and carb dense drink that trigers insulin alot depending on how much lactose has in it, the less fat has in it the more the spike on insulin.
@@jamesbizs Very simplistic. We have 2 energy modus. One for Fat energy and one for carbs. After some hours you switch in the fat energy modus. If you get carbs your body switches and expects more carbs to come.

Same reason for fasting. Coffee is fine to not break the fasting effect but only without milk.

Out of dozens of YT videos about coffee and caffeine that I’ve watched, this one was by far the most informative and authoritative. Thank you.
