Bought a house in October 2020 with about 1.1 acres. Had never even been on a ride on before. Found this channel and all of the information has been incredible. I purchased this exact tractor; 2021 S240. Your video made me very confident in the purchase and all relevant maintenance. This channel needs to get more publicity because its much more well done than any of the others including John Deere's own videos. Great work.

Just wanted to thank you for all your video reviews of the 100 and 200 series models. I was originally considering an S160 until I saw your videos and then decided that the S170 would be a better choice for me. Unfortunately no one in my area up here in Maine had ANY in stock including the local John Deere dealer. They did however have an S180 yesterday so today I stopped in to check it out only to find that it had sold.
That's when I first heard of the S240. With the Kawasaki engine, the 48 inch deck (the 54 was more than I wanted anyway) and the other general upgrades with this model I made the deal.
Your videos were a great introduction to the John Deere lawn tractor world and a huge help in my selection process to finally purchase the right one. Thank you!

Great review, as always! I picked my 2021 S240 up about a month ago, so far so good. I was concerned about the fuel filter physically touching the engine, so I used a zip tie to pull it closer to the battery by wrapping it around the fuel line and the battery strap. It has done a good job keeping the filter off the engine. Also, any clue when part # BUC11053 will be available? I'd love to get mulching, but I haven't seen the mulch control kit attachment in stock. Thanks again!

@@wilburreeves8329 theyve got the same engine and transmission, and even the same tires. The deck lift and height adjustment along with the x330 having a somewhat heavier frame are the most notable differences. I think the x330 has a longer warranty also. I mow about almost 2 acres currently using a honda hrx217 pushmower and cub cadet ltx1040 42" tractor. I have to mow rather slow to achieve a decent cut with it,so I'm looking to upgrade. I think the s240 would suit my needs ok,because I dont have any steep hills or substantial obstacles and seldom tow anything.

The main reasons for me: better engine and oil change (EZ oil change just not for me), 3 year warranty, separate throttle and choke, separate position for lights on only when needed. Thank you and honestly it all depends on your desired cutting width. If you feel as though you need the 54" the S180 is a good choice. The thing I like about the S240 is the deck build on the 48" deck. It is a more high capacity deck even though it isn't as wide as the 54" on the S180. Both are great mowers and I have mowed with both of them. I hope this helps and thanks for watching!

Side discharge is fine for me through the mowing season, and I don't want to drop the money on the mulch kit and blades and would like a mulch plug option for the leaves in the fall with the Accel Deep Mower Deck. Otherwise I will be tempted to use my 22 inch Toro Recycler with the mulch option for all my yard in the fall.

Is part BUC10704 the correct part? Also, I read that you can use the mulch control and bagging system simultaneously resulting in partial bagging and partial mulching; is this correct? If so, what blades (bagging or mulching) would be best for this operation? Thanks again!

@@davidboyd7494 technically you can service a k46. You'll have to remove the shifter and brake connectors and then remove the transmission. There's a filter kit you can buy along with fresh fluid. Theres a fill cap that must be removed from the top of the transmission to drain and fill it. Once its drained flip it bottom up and remove the pan on the bottom. Theres a couple magnets thatll need cleaned off and a paper filter to change. Clean the mating surfaces of the pan and transmission well and apply a high quality rtv sealant and bolt back the pieces. Fill with fluid and before reinstalling the fill cap rotate the input drive shaft for a minute in each direction to purge any air. Check fluid level again. It should be 3/4" from the top. Reinstall fill cap and transmission. In roughly 2 hours you can service the unserviceable.

Hi Brent. Thanks for your excellent videos. They've helped me to decide on the S240 with a 42" deck. I'd like to find out if you agree with that choice or if the 48" deck would be better.
I plan to mulch about 1.5 acres of flat as well as somewhat sloped and rough terrain at a height of around 3.5". A shorter cutting time with the larger deck is not an important consideration. I picked the lighter deck so it's easier to adjust the cutting height and remove it for service, less expensive to add a bagger and to maintain 2 vs 3 blades / spindles, easier to fit the tractor on a 5 ft wide trailer and because it should be more maneuverable on slopes.
I'd be grateful if you could answer a few questions.
Does the MulchControl kit work equally well on both decks or are the results better on one of them?
Would a well maintained 42" stamped deck be as rust resistant as a 10 gauge forged 48" deck?
Is there less risk of damaging a blade / spindle on sloped rough terrain with the additional 2 gauge wheels of the 48" deck or more risk due to the greater width?
Which deck would you recommend for this lawn?
Thanks very much for your help.

    • @WesternEquipment
      @WesternEquipment  10 месяцев назад +1

All great question. To start, yes, I would go with the 42" deck. The mulch control works well on both models and there is no advantage in rust protection with the thicker steal. there is going to be less risk of damage with the shorter deck and I would definitely recommend the 42" deck for your specific situation. I hope this helps and thanks for watching!

So the gas tank is a floating tank that sits on an arm that runs your float gauge. It could be a couple of different things. Either that arm that goes from the gauge to the underside of the tank is broken or your tank may have springs that help hold it in place and one of them may be broken.
