    John Deere makes good mowers if used as intended. 1'st thing I did when my 2006 155c, 48" was new is use a jumper wire on the reverse switch and put a plastic cap inside the seat switch. 17 yrs., 740 hrs. and no regrets on a lawn like yours. Can easily hook them back up. No kids around and if I can get out of a running car I can get off my mower. Reverse was a bit weak so this spring I pulled the K-46 tranny out to clean filter and refil with Hy-Gard J20C and it runs like new now. Power washed everything and put all new steering parts in at same time. The 25 hp. B&S still runs like new. I guess I should shine up the J.D. 60 I have in the corner of the polebarn. Great video, Thanks. From the farm near Battle Creek, Mi.

    You’re gonna love your S240. I’ve had mine since it was brand new in 2016. Mine is only an 18.5hp, you’ve got the 21.5hp. I’ve modded mine so it doesn’t look like a “mower” at all it looks like a mini AG tractor. My favorite modification so far is a horn. The next mod on the list is a homebuilt ROPS. My S240 doesn’t cut but it can sure pull stuff around in my John Deere 10 cart, I use a walk behind mower for the grass.

    Four years on an S240 and LOVE IT! The redesigned geometry of the front end makes it feel like power steering. The Kawasaki engine is strong and so far totally reliable. Two complaints: the gas tank is probably half the size of my older Deere. Used to get two complete cuts (almost 2 acres) with the old Deere. The S240 needs a fill up for each cut. The second complaint is the cheap plastic covering on the seat...duct tape fixed that.

      I bought the S240 for the Kawasaki motor- the last two Briggs and Stratton motors I had were a disappointment- and yes it does have a small gas tank

    Nice mower, I have a Kawasaki in my JD mower and the engine is the best on the market, So far 700 hrs. with no issues. I change the oil and use full synthetic oil and change the filter once in the spring and once mid season. I use gator mulching blades. Steering is now loose and needs some tie rods. Thanks, you have a great mower there. PS Use 10/40 oil. I think Kawasaki may recommend that heavy of an oil. Check it out.

    My wife has an S-240 couple years old ..... she loves it we have 140 acres she runs the fence lines and maintains some of the roads with it , it even handles some of the open areas we have. I did switch to some beefier tires

    I’ve enjoyed my s240 the last few months. Bought it new a few months ago and the best mods I’ve done is added a “suicide steering knob” to the steering wheel. Makes turning the mower so much more enjoyable and easy. I also added a jumper wire to the backup blade engagement button so that the blades remain on during driving in reverse without having to push the button.

      I’m going to give the 70 to my nephew, he really likes it and I know he keep it - gonna need a carburetor rebuild 👍

    Did you buy that from the place in Morton Illinois? I was thinking about buying a S210 model.

    Does it have a plastic tranny?

    Are All The John Deere Hoods Etc. Made Of That Cheap Plastics ???

    • @mattb9664
      @mattb9664 7 дней назад

      Yes- they downgraded the hood on the current gen 100 and 200. It's 'snap-together' plastic panels that form the hood, so there is a seam between the top and sides. The older earlier gen 100s had a thicker single piece hood...we probably took that for granted.
      The hood holder hinge also used to be this heavy gauge, overkill steel bracket - that also has been changed to a plastic bracket bolting to the frame.
