Great info, I acquired a few copper coated earth rods back in tha day, I recon if you can place them near wet ground eg: taps that might make a better earthing 🤷🏻‍♂️

In answer to your question, yes there's at least one bloke here who would like to see more electric fencing content. (Currently considering the practicality of getting away from barbed top strands in favour of electric, so I can't get enough electric fencing tips).

Tim, brilliant video, I have purchased the recommended earth stakes and that has improved the performance. But I was not aware of the need for the extra earths. Thanks & Cheers

I love your electric fence vlogs Tim, always informative and well presented. I’ve been farming with electric fence for 30 plus years and wouldn’t be without it, I hate barb with a passion! One of the previous farm I managed was coastal, non wetting sands and I ended up putting a permeant dripper system in over the earth pegs and watering once a week during the drier months, made a huge difference to the energiser performance and made it very easy to just connect a garden hose once a week while watering lawns.

Great video again Tim with good content and interesting delivery. The backdrop of damaged, dying and dead trees is very stark- perhaps a video on Passive Chemical Exposures at some stage would be helpful for folks to assist in identifying symptoms such as seen in the background of your video. Keep up the wonderful work!

    • @FarmLearningTim

Mate the symptoms (scorched trees) you saw in the background were from a bushfire 12 months earlier. The bloke just saved his house and stock. So this property is in the early stages of recovery from a very natural event. I think this highlights an important point. Not everything bad (like the trees) is related to chemicals or "traditional farming". I try to walk a careful rational line advising people to minimise chemical use and use them correctly when doing so. I also go out of my way to give voice to those practitioners who are focussed on restorative or organic practices, as they are in the minority and have great ideas. I will also continue to showcase good traditional farming enterprises on the channel. It's very interesting to me that the (sometimes vicious) flack I get is always when I do a non-organic/biodynamic story, I don't get crap from the traditional guys when I do the opposite as they are generally interested and trying to incorporate good practice wherever possible. I think we have to be careful to not jump to judgement or conclusions, but look for positive. That's the way change is generated. Thanks for the encouragement. I aim to keep the channel positive and useful. I hope you continue to find value.

All great Tim and thanks for the reply. The variable nature of the damage prompted the question. (Very much concur that not everything bad is related to chemicals- I was asking as the symptoms displayed are consistent with that cause- thanks for clarifying that is not the case in this instance) I totally agree with your (obvious from your videos) direction of looking for the positive, helpful and useful. You are striking a good balance of content coverage with storytelling in an entertaining fashion. I empathise with your experiences of personally negative feedback that this modern internet world has seemed to foster in regard to discussing agriculture, agroecology and ecoagronomy. I’ve continued to have plenty of that in regard to my career work in pioneering some fields in Natural Resource Management- so I know how you feel! It is pleasant to view your work and here’s to striving to be ‘sensible centrists’ in farming systems and practices! Looking forward to meeting you in person somewhere down the track. All the very best, Bruce@@FarmLearningTim

We always connect our woven wire fences into our ground system. I've yet to get over 0.0kv on the ground jumper when doing so, but I still pound a ground rod or two in the wettest areas along that fence when doing so.

Is the earth wire required to be present for your full electric fence, i.e. up to 10kms? I guess this depends on the energizers, ours are at least 15 years old.

Once I get out away from my box and I mean like 40 odd meters and onwards - I use the bottom wire or even the middle wire on an old fence as the earth wire.
