    I refreshed my tired 14in E30 basketweaves last summer (factory optioned gold faces with polished lips) and I empathize with the sanding! Like you, took me about an hour per wheel easily, before AND after primer.

    The part of the wheel that mounts up to the car should be block sanded to keep the surface straight so it can mate cleanly to the hub suface. Great video!

    • @XiseTK

      it should be bare metal to be honest. Pro wheel shops will leave that as a machined surface when they refurbish wheels.

  • @chriholt

    An amazing job - can't wait to see the whole car! As others have pointed out, the white circle on the tire/tyre is supposed to be aligned with the valve. The only thing I would have done differently is to have kept the protective plastic on the face of the new stickers until the wheels were finally mounted on the car, but it's a minor nit :)

    Great restoration. I wish more people knew what the white dot on the tire means. It's the "low" spot or weight of the tire and should be mounted at the valve. I've done all my tires this way sometimes the wheel balanced out.

      This is unfortunately a myth. I've been working in the car industry for over 10 years and the round markers on the tires, (usually Yellow, White or Red) is only storage information to the factory where they produce the tires and has nothing to do with weight. :)

    • @bluej511
      @bluej511 5 лет назад

    • @Qpaxxer
      @Qpaxxer 5 лет назад

      @@bluej511 It might just have been a slight weight reduce in the rubber on the same side the marking is printed, this would be my only solution. But as long as you balance the wheel correct, it really doesn't matter where the marking is.

    I'd put some clearcoat on those hubcap stickers. They won't hold up well against elements.

    I thought sanding my Leon Cupra wheels was a pain in the arse. So many spokes on your BBS' :O Beautiful result as always.

    Doing the same process. Takes me 10's of hours and still not finished. Wouldn't want to do something like this ever again, so much work...
    How long did all this take to you? If I may ask..
    Well done.

    Just a tip:
    You should do something to remove scratches from the windshield, or just replace it. It really reveals the age of a car when the sun hits it in the right angle.

    I just saw this videos but a tip to get the sanding done faster is to just mount the tire on the hub and have the jack jacked up and put it in drive or 3rd gear and the process will be much faster

    Top Work (as always). Especially the look of OEM silver. Not as easy as it seems.
