I am happy to see over the years, Mr. Darcy, and the Old Man, has evolved from a young man who likes street nakeds and young bikes, to now seeing him with a goatee older and wiser, saying 'this bike is off niche for us as we like classics and cruisers' Well, it used to be 'the old man likes these but i prefer the street naked bend over the tank looks cool for millenials one' to become 'i prefer this immortal cruiser'. The channel is the best review channel due to the Father and Son aspect, and the generational difference, which lessens as son gets older.. the generation gap lessens

I am quite taken by this and the best bit about it is you are reviewing it. You both said it's not your cup of tea but you gave it a very fair review. Enough for me to get a test ride. Sounds fabulous! Best bike review of the year so far for me! 👏

Here in Thailand people are much more used to riding scooters than in the UK I imagine. This model is very popular here, but not so often seen on the roads due to its price though. Its automatic transmission has its advantages when riding in dense city traffic as well.

As soon as I hired this in Madeira Portugal for five days I wanted to buy it. But I wanted style so went for the Forza 750. Traded in my BMW R1200RT. What I like about the manual mode is the you want in auto you’ve slowed down auto will change so it won’t labour the engine. I did a round trip London to Hinckley and back turn a nice 71 miles to the gallon. Also ordered the central locking top box. I absolutely Love it. Also later fitted the pair of side panniers. Did a trip to France Spain and Gibraltar then home through Madrid to Santander for the sailing to Portsmouth. 2200 miles over ten days minus two day in Reinosa waiting for the ferry. Never faulted me.

I rode big bikes all my life, but age and injuries have caught up with me so I reluctantly brought a Honda Forza 750 (the road version). Once you get used to it it is so comfortable on long distance riding as you can move your feet to get them comfy. It is well engineered, at 110 mph it is rock solid stable even in a cross wind which surprised me. If your a member of a bikers club you may get some stick but as a person who doesn't give a damn what other people think it suits me.

  • @karlyallen3607

I traded my R1250GS for one of these (I'm getting on a bit and found it difficult to manoeuvre when not riding it). The seat on the X ADV is tall though - I am quite short so I lowered the rear suspension, put the forks up through the yoke to 20mm and fitted a shorter side stand from a Honda 700 Integra which makes it a lot better for me. I love the looks, the comfort and the DTC gearbox and it is quite nippy in sport mode. You definitely need the extra off road pegs if you are going to stand up on it though.

Just part ex'ed a yammy super tenere 1200 for one of these, and i can honestly say im blown away with how it rides, the dct gearbox is just like silk. You have a hard job to tell its changing gear,i dont miss the manual gearshifting. If you can get past what you look like and experience the amazingly comfortable riding position (6ft1"),then your in for a very nice riding experience. Also mine is averaging 70+mpg with a mixture of sport and standard modes.
The negatives are too much plastic and poor powdercoating on centre stand and lower chassis, but some painted on gear oil solves this.So please try one if you get chace,i guarantee it will surprise you.🏍👌

it DOES have a manual gearbox. You need to select it. On the right bar, there is a grey button to select automatic, manual or neutral. if you select manual, there are paddles on the left handlebar for manual gear change. it really is easy. maybe the reviewers did not notice this. I have one of these by the way. I live in Thailand. Having said that.........maybe the UK spec does not have this function..........but i would be very surprised if that was the case

I took one of these out for a 45min test ride when I was at ‘Bikefest’ at Goodwood and couldn’t believe how well it performed. It went and handled brilliantly (which I hadn’t expected at all) and once I’d got over the fact of the ‘scooter’ feet forward position it was a great ride and way faster than I expected. The automatic gearbox was always in the right gear at the right time and I couldn’t fault it. Like you my only criticism is that I don’t really like the looks but I think most bikers would be shocked if they took one for a spin. Not sure I’d fancy taking it off road though!

As a maxiscooter owner in the US, in addition to traditional motorcycles, it would be nice to again have the larger cc scooters available. This one is the pinnacle. In the maxiscooter genre, the looks of this one seem to fit just fine to me. Even that small dip in front of the seat could be helpful in kicking the foot through if there’s a duffle strapped to the passenger seat, instead of having to kick it over the driver seat. Looks like a great machine that I will likely never get to try. Thanks for going out on this limb. I wish I had the option of even considering one.

It sort of falls between but is really a nc 750 in different clothes. Good reviews. X-ADV is based on an NC750X DCT engine and frame, altered to move the luggage space under the seat. Like the NC750X, the weight is low down, as the engine tilts the cylinders forward and the fuel is held low down too. I owned a 2017 NC750X, which has a hard seat. Both the Forza 750 (road going 'scooter') and the X-ADV, are scooter bodies on top of a regular motorcycle frame. They are more expensive than the NC750 but have better quality suspension, TFT display and twin front disks. The DCT is an automatic gearbox rather than CVT, there's no engine hanging off the swing arm.

To me it reminds me of the Honda PCX150, which morphed into the Forza, then leaped to the ADV-150, and now this.
The thing about a scooter is, they are light and nimble, great in urban environments. Once you hit 750cc you must add strength aka weight to handle the speed, power, etc. You lose that scooter benefit and it becomes a different tool. I don't see this as a maxi-scooter. A hybrid of a motorcycle and scooter.
I think very clever and it does appeal to me.
I love my CVT transmission, I did read the set-up on this one and it is ingenious and different. Kudos to Honda for pulling that off.
Huh, just noticed they are not selling it in the US.
Sadly, the seat height is too high for me.
    I'm 5'6", 29" inseam.
I own a Suzuki DR650, put on a lower seat that is so comfortable, wish I could recall the brand, but after suspension sag, it's still probably around 32"- 31". I have to stand on tip-toes unless I wear heavy riding boots, then it's ball of the foot.
It's the only bike I've owned that has frightened me at times - due to the seat height and suspension dive. Get off camber at a stop sign, or sliding in the dirt, oh boy, your butt can pucker if you aren't quick about mitigating. I wish someone would make a lower seat-height vehicle like this. I'm aware of the physic's and that is asking for too much, but maybe if they changed the frame a bit.
I believe they could sell more product and attract the female buyers who tend to have smaller inseams like me. Not all, don't get me wrong, but there is something about being able to plant your feet that gives you more confidence.
    Great review, love your videos.

The back story to my Honda PCX150 is that I was dying for something different. Went to the Honda dealer with my then 12yr old son, and I sat on a dual purpose Honda 250 and he said the seat is too high, made him nervous. The whole purpose was to find something for him to ride me with me.
He looked around and said "Hey, this scooter looks pretty cool". He sat, I sat, hmm...sold. I'd never contemplated a scooter. Fell in love with them. Man, what a machine it is, handles like a Ferrari, I kept up with a Ducati 999 on twisty roads, he couldn't use his horsepower, I could late brake, total confidence that thing gives, catch-up, and off he was gone in an open stretch. He went a few miles down the road, turned around, looked at my scooter, shook his head. "Really? Really? Huh." Never ever underestimate what a light scooter can do in twisty roads.
My son and I rode for miles and miles on it, I live in one of the most beautiful places in the US, with roads people travel all over to ride on. Look-up Franklin TN and Liepers Fork. Well worth a visit, and minimal police on the backroads, so you can wail.

You can get a footpeg kit. The main point of the bike for me after sitting on one was the very comfortable seat which supports more of your rear end. Very important when you have Arthritis. Also now I am 69 I want the auto box for ease of riding. I think the thing I might struggle with is not having a tank between my legs which I find helps with handling, IOW I prefer bikes to sit in, not on a bike. Maybe you get used to it. I will see soon. I like the fact that a lot of the controls and dash are very similar to my Transalp 750. The horn is a bugger to find, though.

I cannot judge it of course without riding it, but it has a big positive, you failed to mention that there are rider pegs available as accessories, so your feet have three possible positions, front of the floor, middle and rear on the foot pegs. That's something very fundamentaly useful on a motorbike, to be able to have three different leg positions for long rides.
I have ridden a scooter for a while that had buttons to open the compartments, it's pain in the ass. You have to remember to open it before you switch off ignition, you forget, turn on the ignition again, that puts me off.
Keep in mind that is DCT and not belt drive like a scooter. That's a plus.
Fortunatelly it has the fuel filler cap at the front of the seat separately from the rest of the seat, so if you have luggage at the pillion seat you don't have to remove it to access the cap, but still, think before what you store in there if you have luggage.
The spoked wheels look nice but how would they behave off road or in pothholes?
I watched other reviews that mentioned that the floor protrudes on the side and can be difficult to manouvre/walk with it, add to this that is very heavy.
I repeat, someone has to ride it to make conclusions, looks like it has positives but the same time can be very annoying in certain areas. Especially if you are someone like me who gets annoyed easily with objects... If for ex I hit my shin on something protruding the bike I start swearing, if I forget to open the seat before switching off the ignition I start swearing, I am that guy... if you are too then maybe it's not for us!

I'm changing my opinion slowly over this one. I first thought "who the hell will want that? It's expensive for a commuter and under-useful for an ADV", but I'm starting to see. Especially when you learn it has customisable performance, so you could presumably set it up exactly for whether you are commuting into a city, touring long-distance, or heading down country lanes (and switch it at the touch of a button).
I loved my Fuoco (Gilera's version of the Piaggio MP3 500) because it was very capable and functional, but still fun. I guess this is a similar, but possibly more refined and sophisticated, deal.
I'll have to give it a try and see if I can compare to how I remember my scooters riding.
I guess if I were still scooter commuting every day I'd be definitely setting up a test ride...

Engine seems amazing, it looks decent, and it's probably the most scooter I'd personally go. I do appreciate maxi scooters for what they are - a good form of urban transportation, but they never lure me in. This one, despite being bonkers, has the "so dumb it's actually interesting" thing. It kind of seems like what the classic bagger cruiser would evolve into, given the history turn out just a bit differently (and people not loving the mid XX century styling so much).

Great review as always. In Singapore, it’s trending since we are majority a nation of scooters. However, as quickly as they are being picked up. They are being put up for sale in a rather short period. Though the intention and model name gives the scooter an idea of rugged terrain riding. Seems to be less on the actual functionality of off-road capabilities. Price point isn’t attracting existing Tmax or Xmax riders to switch over. Those models does what a scooter can and should do better with no woes over seat height and higher CG. Existing scooters have been touring into Malaysia and Thailand, exploring off-road terrains with no issues. The supposedly more off-road worthy idea that the X-adv was intended for does not seems to actually truly makes it more off-road worthy.
