i`m interested in taking the next step up after my Honda Forza NSS300. This video is one of the best (if the best)review of the T-Max in my opinion, thank you for that! It explained a lot of those questions what i had in mind.
The X-ADV actually has 3 levels of "Sport Mode" although probably not relevant in this comparison test, also, if off roading is your thing, you can get the optional footrest which are set at the back of the running boards, these would address your (correct) observation regarding being to close to the bars when standing, these are as far as I know are not an option for the TMAX, regarding storage, you are correct regarding the under seat storage, I couldn't fit my Arai Tour X in there with it's peak attached. Anyway, a great mini review 🙂
Blimey! 10 out of 10 for your video making style and "all you need and nothing more" approach. I ride a 2012 V-Strom 650 infrequently and PCX150 daily here in Japan. Although I adore the V-strom - and well serviced it will run for ever - I want a more comfortable option (I get pain in my left hand and wrist from clutch work when in traffic). The 2018 Suzuki Skywave 650, 2017 Yamaha Tmax DX and Kymco AK550 are on my wish-list. A Honda Integra or even CTX700 would have been but if I am not getting a motorcycle, I am not going to tolerate chain maintenance every 1,000 kilometres. I am almost sure I will get the Tmax, having just looked at one, but having had a Skywave (Burgman) 650 as a loaner (earlier model), I know how comfortable they are. Still, 1,350,000 Yen for a the Tmax DX (about 10,000 pounds), and 1,000,000 for the Skywave... what to do? The final consideration is road conditions and traffic - road speeds here are 1/3 lower than the U.K., and roads are narrower, so filtering ability is as important as almost all other considerations. Thanks for a very good review and comparison video. I'll be on the look-out for more of your videos (not that I`ll be buying most of what I see there).
I see the X-ADV more as a dual-sport or even touring motorcycle rather than a maxi scooter. test drove it a few weeks ago with a pillion and we were both impressed how smooth, yet punchy when necessary, and also how comfortable it is. Much more comfortable than the NC750, for the rider and especially the pillion.
Fuel economy? Not sure if this was covered, but the honda can achieve over 60 mpg when used in the city. The T-max only around 40mpg this will add up over the years if using these bikes as commuters.
In process of getting my first tmax 2019 Dx ice fluo. Second hand but excellent condition and low milage. I traded in my x max 400 and I think the t max will be it for a good few years. Decent power, storage and great looks. No it isn't redundant because a transmission could vary the gears in steps, in that case it will be "discretely" variable or "step-wise" variable. The tmax has some of the same parts as the old tmax and there's tons of aftermarket stuff aswell !!!! ...
There's an Austrian test driver, who used Honda's "new" technology of the DCT on an Africa Twin. He rode 475.000 km within the last 4 years. It is still working and in great shape, he says. Always taking care of the service intervals, of course.
The Honda is definitely on my radar. Legroom was the best I have found so far on any maxi scooter. I ride with my feet on those slanted foot boards. My legs were stretched out very comfortably!
Then you are not getting the point of a maxi scooter. If I had to choose between them for just one day I would choose the X-ADV. If I had to choose to own one of them it would be the TMax.
If you are PURELY looking for in and around town/city commuting then then TMAX is probably the best choice but if you are looking for more versatile city AND weekend away country riding with a better stylistic and traditional "motorbike" look about it then the X-ADV wins hands down.
Thanks guys. I really wasn’t sure which one to go for... this made my choice easier. I ended up buying a DX partly because it corners far better than the XAdv which felt a little jittery in fast turns. And you’re absolutely correct about the weather protection... The components used on the XADV are in part superior to the ones used on the NC750X. I do not understand, why Honda didn't utilize that room between the legs in the front and add another (small) compartment there. It is not like it would have killed the XADV's "looks". It would have made it much more practical.
The person doing the road test mentioned that the honda has higher handle bars, I don't know his height but I can say the chief reason I have not bought a scooter is that at 6'1" my knees foul on the handle bars. I think a better comparison would have been the T-Max against a Honda Forza 750.. It's meant to be a maxi scooter where as the xAdv is a kind of crossover.
Here's what I don't get. Why not just buy the NC750X? Same engine and transmission, same weight (ish), pretty much the same windscreen and amount of storage, more bike-like riding position and a lot cheaper!

The engine size and transmissions , intent of use is completely different. The only consideration is the price range. Id pick tmax for highspeed commute. Id pick xadv only if i require a mild off roading. Which i dont! So id pick a tmax
Riding offroad legally in the UK just doesnt work. That said the x-adv looks way better whatever the terrain. The one you are least likely to get mugged for is also something to consider.
If you want a Maxi Scooter go for TMax, Burgman, Vespa 🛵, Klymco, BMW etc... but if you want the experience to be closer to a motorcycle with off road appeal and a DCT gearbox the It has to be the XADV for choice...
You keep using the xadv off-road without the off-road pegs. You even mention that standing up your feet are too close to the bars! WTF? don’t you know they sell optional pegs or are you pretending you don’t?
Jim Davis yeah they do! built by rizoma and sold by honda as a power part. oh wait in some countries they cannot do that... but whatever you can buy them anyway! the point is: you can’t say it’s uncomfortable to ride standing if you don’t mount the pegs that you’re supposed to use to do so. you can complain they don’t come stock... i’d agree to that!
I'm in Japan and Honda does not offer the footpegs, which is too bad because I want a pair. I did get fancy floorboard rubbers and little wind deflectors for feet. I don't find it a problem to stand up from time to time over a big bump, but I don't think the Xadv is designed for such rough stuff where you'd have to constantly stand up riding.
Jim Davis I never tried it with the pegs but they look fun as hell from videos on RUclips! Buy them online from Italy then, they’re expensive but they’re worth it in my opinion.
I'm not sure this is a fair comparison. The TMax is a maxi scooter whilst I am not sure in what category the Honda belongs. It has a scooter step through look but a dual clutch transmission whereas most scooters even the maxis have a belt driven CVT. The Honda appears to be designed with some off road capabilities whereas I would never attempt off road riding on a scooter. I own a Kawasaki Voyager 1700 (cruiser)and a Suzuki Burgman 650 Executive (scooter). Scooters, even the maxis are designed for riding in the city. The big ones can take on touring as well. A cruiser is for the open road spending all day on the road. My point here is choose a bike/scooter that suits the riding you're going to do, commuting, touring, off-road riding and so on. Comparisons are only fair if you're comparing apples to apples.
the X ADV has the option of additional side pegs for stand up off road riding.... many of its reviewers say its not good for stand up riding but they are not doing it right !!! the side pegs are not a cheap add on though.
I haven't ridden either of these machines. They both have pluses and minuses. The Yamaha TMax may be a bit over priced if it is the same as the Honda but has a almost 200cc smaller engine - especially when you consider there is a better equipped model than the base model you tested. There seem like a few things to like about both of them. Despite the designation of the Honda I'm not buying a scooter to go off-road even if it is just down a short country lane. The Honda screen while more easily adjustable looks to me to be mostly cosmetic like one of those stupid screens you see on sports bikes. The Yamaha might need a bit more work and time to adjust but looks to do a better job of providing wind protection. This is important because it takes the strain off the arms, chest and shoulders at motorway speeds. When considering the Yamaha I wonder why the screen isn't electrically adjustable like the Suzuki Burgman 650 (at least on the Executive model). Your review is comprehensive and informative. Thanks for posting
Off-road on these will be more down to tyres than anything else, oh and by the way you should never ride sitting down with your legs dangling on or off-road. The Honda combines the disadvantages of a motorcycle and the disadvantages of a scooter and isn't very good at either, I'm not sure who it appeals to. The T MAX (and get the model with the electric screen next time) is a great two wheeler and can commute or tour with the best of them, without the hassle and width of panniers!
Visordown should stop doing scooter reviews. Everyone I've seen is snobby and condescending. They're always trying to evaluate them as motorcycles, which makes no sense. It's like taking a dump on a motorcycle for a lack of scooter-like underseat storage. If you're going to continue being so biased, why bother?
@@hermanstokbrood because it's a motorbike more then it's a scooter. I'm a x-adv owner, so I'm not neutral at all, but wouldn't ever trade it in for a t-max. 😉
Not a fair comparison as the Honda is like its name says: a crossover. Once another brand makes a similar bike X-ADV is the only of it kind as well as on that turf.
Bmw c650 gt and c650 sport would destroy both of these choices and its available in America. The Suzuki Burgman 650 is also a better choice than both of these and available in the us. That's if you're interested in maxi scooters. They are also 2-4k $ more but definitely better choices.
price is not the same in Asia. T max is 530,000 baht and Xadv is 430,000; 3-4,000 USD difference. 100,000 baht so its cheaper for a bigger engine and added discomfort.

Q: did the old TMAX look better?
A: new looks way more futuristic. thats something i like.
Oh yes, as did the previous 500 model.
For everyday commuting and get out (clean road) of town in the weekend sometimes, what is better choice?
Greenlaning on a T-Max! Great!
Had both, XADV is way better in every aspect except storage. XADV is a motorbike, and drives like one.
if you plan to offroad the adv , buy the offroad pegs they sit further back and feel more natural to stand up
The engine size and transmissions , intent of use is completely different. The only consideration is the price range.
Id pick tmax for highspeed commute. Id pick xadv only if i require a mild off roading. Which i dont! So id pick a tmax
the chain is a major dealbreaker to me.
Same, also à lock is difficult because of the chain
yes, belt is better far smoother ride
Honda doesn't sell the optional pegs.
Jim Davis ruclips.net/video/FKe4Fiu4leY/видео.html
Please dont show XADV with case, you’re killing its wonderfull aesthetic!
why comparing 700cc with 500cc?? compare bike with the same cc..
handy video
I love my Tmax handles really well and smooth ride and very nippy.
I'll take X-ADV. I think they cannot be compared because X-ADV isn't actually a maxi scooter while T-MAX is pure auto CVT. Right???
Your correct !!! The xadv is in a different class. Mybe compair it to the nc750..semi/auto or the Africa twin semi/auto.
@@mrpantur7280 >That makes the most sense, it is the closest apple to apple comparisons, Otherwise, it is an apple to coconut comparison.
Both different...why compare??
Its a very biased review. He doesnt like Maxi scooters but one which looks like a "normal" bike is preferred.
Comparisons are only fair if you're comparing apples to apples.
the X ADV has the option of additional side pegs for stand up off road riding.... many of its reviewers say its not good for stand up riding but they are not doing it right !!! the side pegs are not a cheap add on though.
like to find side foot pegs for sure. Not enough leg room if your 6' or taller. More info on that !!
Thanks for posting
can't believe I'm saying this but I'm gonna be those guys that says "why not just get a real adventure bike and a top box"
why talk about price when it varies in each country. Asia is 3,000 usd higher for the T max.
Honda is the best and better all over
Im a yamaha lover.. but this X-ADV will amaze you when you see it in person.. a real head-turner bike.. Kudos to this HONDA..
Yes it looks really good but its biggest flaw is having a chain. Why not a belt?
@@hermanstokbrood because it's a motorbike more then it's a scooter. I'm a x-adv owner, so I'm not neutral at all, but wouldn't ever trade it in for a t-max. 😉
@@leifj653 no but would you rather have one with belt? I know I would.
@@hermanstokbrood of course belt is free of maintenance, it's hard to argue about that.
@@hermanstokbrood > I think when it's a "scooter" a belt comes to mind, when its a motorcycle >chain drive comes to mind.
Not a fair comparison as the Honda is like its name says: a crossover. Once another brand makes a similar bike X-ADV is the only of it kind as well as on that turf.
Obvious this guy loves Yamaha.
I prefer X Adv coz it looks like Ducati Strada bike. And if riding long journey it won't hurt your back.
I think Honda Integra is the most adequate moto
Since it appears we will get neither in the U.S. it's difficult to too excited.
Exactly how I felt. Make it available !
Bmw c650 gt and c650 sport would destroy both of these choices and its available in America. The Suzuki Burgman 650 is also a better choice than both of these and available in the us. That's if you're interested in maxi scooters. They are also 2-4k $ more but definitely better choices.
Honda mgganda motor inilalabas sa abroad sa pinas eh lagi late at konti lng.
I go to X-ADV 750cc
TMAX is a scooter. XADV is a motorcycle with more scooter features. Most people will love XADV I believe.
Both scooter
@@adventuretwin2529 but X-ADV have chain that's why it's like a motorcycle while scooters have belt only
Both these look great but way to expensive
it's simple the X-ADV is a bike the TMAX is a scooter. bike is better
11Daniel2k not if you want a scooter.
the xadv is not a bike...its ascooter with bike element
Xadv has traction control 2 mode
Tmax 1 mode
I still choose TMAX easy ride and much lower price less maintainance
what are u talking about its the same price or the tmax techmax is even more expensive
I'll take TMax, please
I am convince the Yamaha is better. I have my eye on a used one with 5300 Miles.
So, the ultimate "2-wheeled car" would still be the Suzuki 650 Burgman....It's hard to beat.
price is not the same in Asia. T max is 530,000 baht and Xadv is 430,000; 3-4,000 USD difference. 100,000 baht so its cheaper for a bigger engine and added discomfort.
son 2 motos diferentes, la comparativa es baga.
these two scooters are not on the same level thus not ideal to be compared. nice review though
2021..in my country the difference.. around $12000..tmax far more affordable
