What about a husband who sees the space you made by decluttering your own stuff as a space to fill with more of his stuff, completely negating the effect of decluttering? My husband loves to shop. He loves his stuff, and he doesn't notice a difference between a tidy, clutter-free space and a messy space full of clutter.

And yes, I have expressed to him the stress and anxiety I experience as a result of the clutter and why.

What has his response been when sharing these thoughts & feelings with him?
It can be hard to get on the same page with someone when they're not in it for the same things you value. I understand where you're coming from.

@MiaDanielle Honestly, it feels like he just says what he thinks I want to hear.
He acknowledges it, says he will go through his stuff, says he'll keep his stuff in his space (he has an entire spare bedroom just for his stuff... my craft supplies, which is all I have a far as clutter, take up the fllor space of a small closet for another spare bedroom that also holds the deep freezer, indoor tools, and 2 bookshelves as well as the upper shelf of the closet that are also full of his stuff), but he never follows through and continues to shop.
It's very frustrating. If he has a problem with decluttering I would like to know.

Another good one! I'm not sure if I missed this one. I did have some luck (Ninja mind trick) with hubs after I was shockingly able to get him to listen to a decluttering book. He made tons of progress in the garage. He is slowly making progress I assume when he sees mine. I see some things that still bother me and tell myself "Why do you care so much" I would rather have Him and his clutter (in my opinion) than Not have Him!

It sounds like you have a nice balance of compromise :)

so happy to be on this journey towards minimalism and living with less, and my bf is equally on board..
the current challenge is that i still live at home and trying to declutter my stuff from my childhood - college years

I am new to your channel and I really like your style. I love the tips in this video as myself and my husband have the same issues. We are both in our 50s and have one son who is nearly 18. When I started minimizing my stuff (and stuff in the house in general) I know I made several of the mistakes you alluded to. I am trying to not repeat those now. And it seems as if I am getting less resistance. He will likely never be as minimal with his stuff as I am and I am working to accept that. One thing I have done is discuss the idea that , whatever we hang on to, is something that our son will potentially have to deal with down the road and I don’t want that for him. I think my in laws downsizing over these last few years have also helped my husband seeing this point. Look forward to more of your videos

Just a tip for more views. If you can repost and use the term husband. I don’t know if you can post more than once or how it you tube works but it took me a while to find this video. I never use the term partner because I’m older and have a traditional marriage . I hope you accept this advice offered without judgement . Thank you for these tips.

Love your videos.. please share more on this kind of video. I am not able to convince my husband to keep his space clean and it’s too much for me to clean it for him and he doesn’t recently want me to touch it. Help. I don’t know how to tackle this. I have tried everything to help him. Thanks

I cannot discuss donating anything etc with my partner. He really does have anxiety about it and I am shocked I had no idea until recently. he just gets mad and gets to the point FINE THROW IT ALL OUT LOLOL so I hate to say I have to sneak his 40 yr old books he doesnt look at and Ive tried all the tips. SO yes I sneak them out clothes items cluttering his office I can get him on a good day and hes all for it but then its No Im not getting rid of that. ( Usually something that has been in our garage for 20+ yrs ) So frustrating. I do wonder if anyone here notice that perhaps this is an only child deal? Just a thought. P.S I have said to him do you want our family to have to clean out the items u want to keep so badly? they will have to go thru all of this when we are gone. OR do we want to move this to a new smaller home ? I get dead air lol

My husband is not the only child, but he def has a problem with parting with old unused stuff. He was like "no, don't sell this old laptop, maybe we will use it for something later". Now this laptop is so outdated that nobody will want it.🤷🏻‍♀️And we never used it when it was in storage. Same with old books he never opens, they just collect dust.
His family was not financially struggling when he was a kid, idk why he likes to keep things "just in case".🤔maybe he learnt it from older relatives though. They did suffer a lot during the WW2.

My roommate is a hoarder and while she lives downstairs and I live upstairs it’s still an issue. When she starts encroaching on my space it causes problems. She’s just nasty!

I will stick with the preppers, they will not be scrambling when things go crazy like weather, war (ukraine), bad government, BE PREPARED! People with empty houses can not HELP others.

How much can old clothing and paperwork help? You need quality over quantity. You need essentials like water and food, many things we keep are just not useful.

    • @cb9825
      @cb9825 2 года назад +1

@@ber1779 I agree, some decade old equipment catalogues (which my husband refuses to get rid of) will not help other people. You can't even safely toss them in a campfire, they are printed on the type of paper with colour paint which is toxic to burn.
