Omg.. this is by far the best review I've seen of this amp. I've watched probably 12 of them so far and the sound quality on each of them was just s***. I was seriously ready to write the amp off as a piece of crap. That I've heard yours, I'm going to go ahead and bid on the one I'm looking at
Man I can't believe how good that sounds. I figured you were playing through a pedal, but then seen that you were plugged straight in. I'm going to have to look into the R19 mod.
It's funny, as simple as it is, that R19 mod was what made all the difference for this amp, for me anyway. Having that muddy internal tone stack out of the circuit makes it so, so much more usable.
@@FuzzBass66 . . I'm a little more educated about lifting the resistor now. I actually have a switch here that will be perfect for this. Easy enough. . But I'm equally convinced that a lot of this tone is the result of your fingers, and your playing style. Very impressed all around.
Since making this video I managed to get my hands on a Fender '63 Reverb unit (circa 1994). Probably seems like overkill running something like that into a wee little amp like this but my god it sounds good.
That wasn't anything in particular really, just some random playing. Definitely in the style of Neil Young & Crazy Horse, but yeah, not an actual song.
I've read about people squeezing in an 8" replacement with a bit of modding to the baffle, yeah. But they apparently JUST fit, there's not much for wiggle room. The most popular 6" replacement for these (which is what I'm leaning towards) is the Weber Signature 6. They make four versions, two alnico and two ceramic with two different cone options for each. I've heard a few examples, they really bring these to life and 'open them up' if you will.
I just simply pulled the old baffle out, speaker and all. Went to Lowes and bought a small piece of 1/4 birch for the new 8" Weber. Was the perfect time to replace the grill cloth. Also a new, much more beefy output transformer.
@@andycole6724 was wondering how you got the 8 inch to fit? I tried installing one and the only way it would seem to fit is if I push it to the left. Also did you make the hole on the baffle bigger?

I love this amp sounds amazing
awesome! You just got me into buying one!
Sounds good as is!

That's how I like it. Strait in. You could sm 57 mic it, into a Mackie and find just the right reverb.

@FuzzBass66 do you have a video of that sweet overkill? 🧐
Is there a guide on how to mod this amp? I have one from when they came out and wanna upgrade it
What song is at the end? Want to learn that sounds awesome

Do you think a larger speaker could fit in the cab?

I fit an 8" Weber alnico speaker into mine. There's *just* enough room to fix it into the baffle. Makes a big difference, and is worth the trouble.

I have the sister amp, the Champion 600, and I put a Jensen C6V in mine and love it!
