    Hey Sam! I've run an embroidery/screen printing shop for the last 10 years. Running 20+ heads every day. This looks like a Tajima clone, which is good. If you dont have one, get a tensioning tool. You'll need it.
    Your digitizing will make a way bigger impact on the quality of your sew than your machine.
    For flats, the green hoops are good, but magnetic hoops are an absolute game changer. Mighty Hoop makes good ones, but there are good ones that are China clones. I think the company name was Sewtech. Big recommendation for magnets. Let's you hoop over seams, zippers, ect, consistent tension...
    If you're using Rayon thread, white can tend to break often. It's just a thing. A polyester thread is a little more robust. Saves you a lot of headache with thread breaks.
    Man. Theres so many things lol. I'm excited for you! Keep it up.

    Sam you might explore this option for your practicing designs. I use cheap muslin fabric. It’s cheaper than the stabilizer. I use 1 layer if I get a mid price range and I use 2 layers if I get the cheapest. If you can get the wide back muslin, like 90” or 108” then it is cheaper still per sq inch. 😊I iron out creases and might starch it first. For something like the towel in this video I will put fusible that you iron on in the back of where I want the design. I like Pellon SF101. I usually cut it a little bigger than I need and if it shows through after the embroidery I will use a warm iron on the back, get it heated up, and then you can peel the excess off.

    really interested to see the current digitisation process, 30yrs ago I wrote cad software for an industrial embroidery machine company (16 head?), in those days the designs had to go out to a punch tape roll as the embroidery machine worked off punched tape 😂, it was really interesting writing code to generate stitch patterns, entry exit points, stitch density from scanned images and fonts, lost touch when I left so would love to see that it's leaped on from that now.

    Oooh, you're in for a learning curve! There is a lot to know about machine embroidery and you have a fine machine to make it happen.
    If you haven't considered a digitizing software, I can't say enough good things about Hatch. It's more intuitive than others I've used. Not to mention that they offer monthly payments...because all good digitizing software is pricy. Makes it possible for the software to pay for itself immediately.

    Back in the 80's my dad had a company that sold knitting machines (they made narrow elastics, one of his bigger customers was Leggs). The company who made those machines came out with something similar, one of the first 'computer' embroidery machines. If I remember correctly the thing used almost like a punch-tape for the designs, so these things have come a LOOONG way since then, lol.

      Man, you loading the spools brought back a ton of memories, lol. My brother made creels for the machines my dad sold, and I'd help with loading those things for testing the machines when they were uncrated after overseas shipping (machines came from Italy if I remember correctly). My dad was the only US-based importer for Comez corporation, so we pretty much imported any of those machines that were in the US at the time.

    Sam, Have always loved the things you and your family do. Was very surprised that you stepped into the embroidery world! I laughed when you decided a flour sack towel was good enough for practice. This is a commercial machine it requires commercial type fabrics. Your asking for trouble with too light weight fabrics. Broken needles, Bobbin rats nests could have happened. I've had 55 years of sewing experience, Whether its a high end home machine or industrial I have worked on them all. I suggest you learn fabrics first, second learn your threads or flosses and don't forget different needles for different threads and fabrics. Get educated. You will appreciate the knowledge later when your asked to embroider a leather Motorcycle seat or saddle bags. I will be glad to steer you to books. I leave you with one last thought. Change your needles often. Needles don't cost much and whether its a ball point needle or a sharp or a variation, your end result will look much better.. Also, try the water stabilizers, (Sulky) is one brand. Spritz with water and the stabilizer is completely gone. No need for the tweezers to take out tiny pieces of left over stabilizer. The backside of your work is as important as the front!

    Hi Sam, great video! What design software do you use? Also, do you know if the specific software is compatible with Mac? Thank you in advance.

    Sam, what digitizer are you using? Thanks for the videos! Congratulations on your new shop!

      Hatch 3. Still in the 30 day trial and going through their academy to learn it proper, but will be buying their top tier level for digitizing.

    They have sold out - anything to do with you do you think? Wish I had had one of these 45 odd years ago. I used to do hand embroidery to sell when we were on our uppers at that time. Did it and cloth toy making at night when the littlies were in bed. I had an old Singer treadle machine because that is all I could afford. I now use it as a display stand but the innards are still there.

    Interesting. How long does it take to a hat similar to the one you did at the end? Does the color changing significantly take longer to complete?(like 2 or 3 colors)

    • @Samcraftcom
      @Samcraftcom  2 месяца назад

      The hat was done in about 10 minutes if memory serves me correctly. Color changes are automatic and very quick -- negligible on total run time per project really.

    Hi Sam, how are you going to keep dust off the embroidery machine when your running any of the laser machines? Will that even be an issue?

    • @Samcraftcom
      @Samcraftcom  2 месяца назад +3

      The lasers are very clean in their dust and fumes thanks to my extraction system. The CNC and any other traditional woodworking tools aren't, though. I'm considering moving them to the old workshop and letting it be a more dirty environment. Between the three main avenues (laser, CNC, embroidery) the CNC work has been the least active.

    Is it hard to thread the needles?

    • @Samcraftcom
      @Samcraftcom  2 месяца назад +1

      It seems easier than a handheld needle and thread to me. You will thread and re-thread the needles often with a machine like this due to thread breaks. I have gotten used to the process after only using the machine a few days and don't find it too terrible of a task.

    Does this machine support 3D puff embroidery?

    • @Samcraftcom
      @Samcraftcom  Месяц назад

      It does, but so do all embroidery machines. The 3D puff is created by external processes and how the file is digitized. The machine doesn't know any different. :)

    How is the the Smartstich S-1501 holding up. I'm considering one but I want to stich Richardson 112 hats and the internet says you need special stronger machines. Please advise

      So far, very well! The hat I stitched in this one was a Richardson 112 and it went right over the middle seam.
