    In a world that is designed not just to exercise the graphics and to be as a statement of technology that does not fade, time is always encapsulated into these arcade centers, non-gambling, lifetime plans and goals of art, all incorporated, all expanding 24/7 with ease and comfort. After you...

    I'm a big retro video arcade gaming fan as I was born in '88. Can you give me a list of arcade game centers in Japan that are still remaining open and going strong? I just need to know
    as I'm hoping to travel to Japan sometime next year as I know COVID had done quite a bit of damage to the arcade industry in that more than a few arcade centers in Japan had closed down
    for good and been destroyed. I also want to know if Mikado game center is still there, and is it still going strong? Thanks.

      Thanks, Mikado in Tokyo is still alive and has many visitors. Also Hey is one of the famous retro arcade in Akihabara, Tokyo.

      Unfortunately most of them have been reduced to Gacha and Claw Machine palaces. Mikado is your best option for a Tokyo arcade if you are trying to relive that 80s and 90s experience and vibe. Hey in Akihabara is on its last legs as a retro spot sadly. The sixth floor of the GiGo 5 arcade in Akihabara is pretty fantastic though if you want a nice cross section of the big name retro arcade games from the 80s to the mid 2000s. Some real classics but it has much more of a modern, sanitised arcade floor rather than that slightly more bespoke, dungeony vibe that Mikado has a little more of (particularly upstairs).
      That's pretty much it for Tokyo sadly (based on my visit winter 2022/2023. I'm back over there again at the end of this year. Osaka, Kyoto and Nagoya, like Tokyo seem to have at least one good retro arcade remaining each that I am keen to check out.

      @Ashura96 11 месяцев назад

      Pinball is pretty hard to come by in Japan. There are arcades there that specialize in just that though.

      I understand the love for pinball. I love it, my wife loves it and it's definitely a great addition to have at any arcade, but the truth is that pinball is a different type of game that doesn't necessarily need to exist within an arcade. They [pinball & arcade games] are like cousins that happen to also be best friends. Mikado is hands down the best game center in the world and it demonstrates it by understanding game center culture and promoting true arcade games of all types & from all eras. Mikado doesn't need pinball because it's not trying to be pinball. For Pinball, my favorite spot is the Pinball Hall of Fame in Las Vegas. They have the same love of and for pinball as Mikado (both Takadanobaba & Ikebukuro) does for arcade games. Please check it out if you're ever in Vegas and check out Mikado if you're ever in Tokyo!!
