Actually not a bad idea! Scotty's trusted dealership OR car repair shops across the country should pay Scotty for his TRUSTED seal of approval. That way we know we're not getting ripped off. Personally love the video where you bring your car in and do it yourself or if can't, they will :D
Scotty’s energy is honestly what makes these videos never lose interest or make the learning parts boring. He always explains in a way I can visualize enough to understand
I own the exact same car minus the convertible. Same color too, picked it up low miles, last owner was not mechanically inclined at ALL! So now it’s my small project and daily I love it
I miss my 2012 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS sport, drove that car from Texas to Tennessee and all the way back without any issues. Car was definitely dependable 👍
Got 2 x 4g eclipse spyder gt's one for me and another for my (ex). 2007 &. 2008. Hers has 230k miles still no serious issues, mine half that but again no issues other than the top which about to replace. Js they are extremely dependable. Engine has been bulletproof thus far! Love em.
I've bought 8 different eclipses in the last 2 decades. They DON'T have bad automatic transmissions. They are such great cars. Actually, any time they need something replaced, it is always small, and the exact same part typically in each year/model after 100k miles (I'd be happy to provide the list of "what breaks on Eclipses after 100k" if anyone wants it! Lol). With that being said, the one I've kept the longest is my 2012 Spyder SE, purchased a decade ago. This video caught my attention because when I purchased it with 60K miles, in mint condition, I only paid $6000 🤣. What a steal!!!! I got it from a dealership (they got it from an auction). Now it is pushing 215k miles, and it drives like it is still brand new. Nowadays the bigger issue is finding parts for the Special Edition 2012. The other editions still have parts available but mine is so hard to find!! But gosh, it sure does have a lot of fun features!!
Gotta love Scotty's jovial disposition when he finds a car he's really impressed with. Hey Scotty, how does one find these kind of "honest guys" ? I could use a "good - used" car !
Just bought a clean no rust 2005 ford ranger edge with 3.0 AT 2wd 139,000 $2900 from a private seller. The Ford dealership in our town has a clean 2009 2wd AT 2.5 with a 141,000 and they are wanting $11,900. People have lost their minds.
I got a 2012 Accord with 12k miles. It was a salvage but the only damage was the rear bumber. It in no way looked totalled to me but after the repair it looked new. Not a single problem out of it.
salvage means nothing. Insurance took my 2001 Camry V6 with 120k miles on it and the rear bumper was hit and knocked off they salvaged the car because of the age. Someone is driving my car around now with nothing wrong. new brakes, new power steering pump, engine in excellent condition, air conditioning excellent .......
Yep scotty I've had four fixed salvaged cars over the years from the same guy here in England saved a fortune and never had a problem with any of them 😊
I have a 1G DSM, manual, AWD, turbo, drive it year round. Sure, it developed a fair amount of underbody rust but nothing too bad, got all of it off, treated and painted it, looks almost new. Replaced everything you need to replace on a car that old, belts, bushings, bearings, BJs, tie rods, struts, gaskets, seals, etc., rebuilt the trans, put in a new clutch & PP, the works. Still needs a little work but nothing serious, runs great. They really built those cars well and if you treat them well they treat you well.

Love my 09 GT Eclipse, had it for 8 years and no major issues at all with it, but yes, change the belts/pulleys/water pump and do the oil change every 3 months👍🏼🔥
Bought a 2002 Mustang convertible 6 cylinder. Only 94.4k on it. Starts up the first turn of the key. Even the roof is in great shape, though, not perfect. Clean, no rust on the body or undercarriage. Leather interior is nearly mint. I never owned or have ever driven in a convertible before, so I grabbed the deal. Sadly, I don't have a place to store it in winter so probably won't keep it long. Wanted to enjoy the experience though. I live in NY and this car has never seen salt, would like to keep it that way.
If you go to the right people auctions can be great. The guy I go to is mainly a shop but he loves volvos and goes up to the better-tiered auctions with warranties to see if there are any good volvos he can get his hands on. You let him know what you have for cash what you are looking for and he will let you know if its there. Waits for really good clean vehicles, goes through them 100% to see if they need to be sent back and is honest. Owned 4 vehicles my whole life and 3 of them have been through him and all of them have had barely any issues. Latest vehicle he got me is a 2017 Fusion 2.5 63K miles and it came out to 14,500$. Far better pricing than the dealerships.
I have the same one with a automatic, still going 250k rough miles later. People just don’t maintain their transmissions thinking it’s lifetime fluid and then the transmission becomes the lifetime of the fluid.
My four japanese cars (3 Mitsubishi's, 1 Suzuki) are all old ones, 94, 95. They have been taken good care off, and where I live in the mountains there are almost no rust issues. Drive with responsibility, do all preventive maintenance, and they will last.
I bought a 2014 lancer es for 5k last year and lemme tell ya i keep up with the basic maintenance on it and ive had no problems whats so ever! I fricken love how reliable the car is and especially how they hold up in the harsh Massachusetts winters just get good snow tires 😆
In 2019 I got the Lancer's cousin, the outlander sport(same platform and engine) and it is an excellent vehicle in snowy places with the all wheel drive and I don't even use snow tires. Despite what Scotty has said about this brand, reliability is typically quite good on Mitsubishis, by most accounts ...just make an effort on good maintenance like changing engine oil and especially transmission fluid changes, which a lot of people tend to overlook.
Scotty do you happen to know the name of the company that fixed this salvage car? If you put it out here for all your subscribers that would be great .
Scotty I have lived and worked in the Houston area for 45 years. Worked as commercial refrigeration and AC tech. Watched helplessly while manufacturers and suppliers started selling Chinese knock offs of good equipment, now we have expensive computers to do what a ten dollar thermostat used to do. I have driven every truck ever made. Hands down Toyota is the best,I liked them so much I bought one with 199,000 miles on it. They didn’t want to put money in truck with that high mileage. Had to spend 3,000$ to repair pollution equipment new belt and plugs. I have put another 100,00 since then. I’love that little Tacoma
I just got me a RWD Toyota 4runner with 181000 miles for $1900 after looking for a car for a month. No rust underneath, nice looking frame, and even has a Catalytic converter! A few downsides on it is the front seats are ripped up and latch to open gas tank is broken. I plan of going to a local Toyota junkyard; pulling seats and possibly front dash/middle dash compartment and replacing. Edit: I got the car from OfferUp app.
I just saw this and this was exactly my situation, except I got mine for 1500 with front end damage (hood, front bumper , radiator and fans). Lovely cars. Support sucks for aftermarket but it’s one of the best daily vehicles ever. It is also a tank, check the frame, layers and layers. It will sacrifice its life to save yours. The front seats are the best. Take them out of a non-spyder, put them in a spyder, boom. THE ONLY BAD THING ABOUT THESE CARS IS THE WEAK AUTO TRANSMISSION. :) oh and, insurance is 45 bucks. Yes $45. Even though you don’t care.
My wife drives a 2016 Honda HRV with 122,000 mostly freeway miles. So on a 70 mile round trip, I would say 60 Is open freeway miles minus about 10 of that being stop and go freeway miles. I have the oil changed every 3000 miles and have followed manual recommendations on "other". I hatrrgggd the transmission fluid replaced on June 2. It's been a great car with the only annoying problem being the driver side sun visor just kinda hangs there like a spring went "BOING", and I can feel the passenger side is getting mushy as well. I'm very proud of my wife, she looked into many different dealerships, did the research and chose the Honda. She could've done a lot worse. Now it's MY job is to see to it that it lasts into retirement, she'll be 62 and I'll be 61, both in August, 2 days apart. My question: should l be considering replacing the timing belt (or chain)?
Love the 2001 Mitsu Eclipse Spyder I bought this March. Loaded, everything works, v6 and 5 speed. Paid too much and I'm 5g in for mechanical and underbody work. Bu to find this version cared for is not easy. Gal owned it 20 years. Had a lot done, I've done plenty, thinking a light purple or candy apple green paint job in future and new exhaust. It's amazing she didn't do timing belt but that's done. At 149,000 runs like a top. All I know is I put the top down, work the stick and I'm happy.
Had this exact car (minus the convertible). Great car, never gave me a problem in the 5 years I owned it. Took it to one track day and blew the engine. Oops lol
I bought a salvaged Toyota yaris 2014 in 2016 for US$9000. The car was fixed by a garage and inspected by Toyota. I have had it for 5 years, no problem.
Nice car same as mine lol !!! Japanese engine yep they do rattle , their fast enough for normal roads. I have a 3G which has the 2.4 so it's more frugal and yes the timing belt was changed.
Once a car is wrecked , you can have lots of electrical issues with it . Even Scotty has mentioned this before . And when its time to re-sell ? You won't get much for it , if it shows up on a Carfax that it was wrecked or totaled .
Give it time and the only place you will be able to go is a dealership for service. A former dealership mechanic told me they are not in the business of repairing cars. Routine Services and parts replacement is the core of their business. He once got threatened with his job for repairing something instead of changing the parts. Yes, they overcharge in hopes you will say “I’ll just buy another car from you instead.” Why else do most dealers put their customer lounges right in the middle or next to the showroom?
I had an 06 gt eclipse and I could keep up with may car "faster" than mine. Topped out at 140, but that's a good thing because it was'a'shakin. Bought a salvaged 2003 dodge ram 1500 manual 4x4 4.7l. salvaged as 28k miles and I bought it at 177k miles. If it was actually bad, it would have broken long before it got to me. Just be smart!
I had a 1984 Dodge Conquest which was really a Mitsubishi Starion. Great little turbo charged sports car until I hit a deer in a rain storm and almost totaled it out. The only thing that saved me is that is was running full speed across the road when I hit it.
I have seen auto haulers delivery salvaged vehicles into Florida, most of those wrecks are either repaired and sold at buy here/pay dealers ripping innocent people off. or exported to countries where they become titled washed. Always do a Vin check
I got an auction car and the only things wrong were missing radio antenna and a leak from the roof, too care of the issues myself and saved a ton of $$$
I work for a cab company that has a fleet of 100+ cars, about 75% of our cars are auction/salvage cars, including the one I drive (which is a Scotty approved Toyota Venza )
At 2:53 Those guys buy Salvage Cars shows image of a Chevy Cruze At 3:44 He could have went to a Junk Yard and got wheels shows Chevy Dealer At 7:28 So what if it has bumpers from a Junk Yard shows Fiat Dealer
Out here in the boonies, you can get a 60's or 70's truck (Or Car) for chump change. Major components for those grow on every tree. I'm not courageous enough to buy a computerized space ship. too much to go wrong on them.
Lol funny I bought a 06 eclipse from a customer that had a broken tbelt bent all valves 80k miles 3 years ago paid 500 for car 400 for a head and a tbelt kit 4 hours of my own time and have put 50 k on it since , been a great daily driver..
I bought a 96 previa ,it ran for three days and became undrivable.I could not figure out the problem ,finally I looked inside the distributor and found that two electrodes had been CUT and the rotor had carboned up it took me half an hour to realize this car had been SABOTAGED by the dealer. This is the second time I have experienced this by shops.I once bought a clutch slave cylinder from a dealer that was sabotaged because the shop did not like diy mechanics.
Its actually a really nice looking car and it looks like they did a good job repairing it (3 years and counting) the guys we're up frt with him from the start... pretty rare these days. 👍
I found a 2004 Acura TSX on craigslist in October...$850. Replaced a fender and mirror, did all the maintenance and got some new tires... It's ugly (faded paint, dents) but I'd drive it anywhere. I sold my 2020 Honda Civic for only $805 less than what I paid for it a year before.
Not going to lie… I made the mistake of getting a used car with low miles (13k) at a dealership. And when it was too late I realized I should of just got a brand new car.. lol oh well though, I still love my 19 Camry xse
@@naveenthemachine yup 💯 at the end of the day I’m not upset about it, I know it will last. btw what kind of Camry xse do you have? I have the two tone white and black exterior with the red interior. The red seats sold me lol. But the gray and black two tone camrys imo look better
I just bought a Mitsubishi eclipse 2007 GT for the same amount...it was Totaled by a halestorm so everything under the body was mint condition...I would alwy recommend buying salvaged cars if it's rebuilt by a trusted source...I love my eclipse and I couldn't see myself driving anything else
@@blizarrdd5398 Dude that's a fantastic buy even for an auction. Those engines are incredible! Such a nice sounding note to them. I actually prefer 350's over GTRS. Hell of a fun car.

Plus I love the old Mitsubishis with the Manual transmission. They were so much better built.
My Toyota pick up was under water for two weeks. I dried it out, dry fired the water out. Changed oil, etc. Ran for another ten years.
I love every time Scotty says, "Junkyard," up pops the pix of a Chevrolet dealership!
He keeps talking about the "guys" that fixed it, but who are they? Otherwise nobody knows and can go there.
Even with mismatched seats, that is a nice looking car.
I got a 06 mitsubishi galant $1500 had it for two months now runs like new with 180k miles. Cars made in japan last longer.
Did you check your tag. Pretty sure it was made in USA technically lol
@@ert-wert Yes it was produced by a Japanese manufacturer.
@@ert-wert They also make toyota.
@@jsmith3607 ahh i was thinking thats what it was. So its only American by location?
Had this exact car (minus the convertible). Great car, never gave me a problem in the 5 years I owned it. Took it to one track day and blew the engine. Oops lol
I bought a salvaged Toyota yaris 2014 in 2016 for US$9000. The car was fixed by a garage and inspected by Toyota. I have had it for 5 years, no problem.
Nice car same as mine lol !!!
Japanese engine yep they do rattle , their fast enough for normal roads. I have a 3G which has the 2.4 so it's more frugal and yes the timing belt was changed.
Finally a mitsi review
Got me a 2007
Always loved the Eclipse! The coupe version.
Those eclipse are a lot of fun even in automatic. Save the sticks...
I had an auto sold it at 190k. Ran like new. V6, made in Japan. Solid car.
I have seen auto haulers delivery salvaged vehicles into Florida, most of those wrecks are either repaired and sold at buy here/pay dealers ripping innocent people off. or exported to countries where they become titled washed. Always do a Vin check
I got an auction car and the only things wrong were missing radio antenna and a leak from the roof, too care of the issues myself and saved a ton of $$$
Can we get the name of the guys that do the salvage repairs? I’m in the area and would like to know them!
I work for a cab company that has a fleet of 100+ cars, about 75% of our cars are auction/salvage cars, including the one I drive (which is a Scotty approved Toyota Venza )
I’ve have 214k on the same engine and a auto transmission no problems with it at all except for the mass airflow sensors blowing all the time
Same with the sensors..How much oil you burnin?
At 2:53 Those guys buy Salvage Cars shows image of a Chevy Cruze
At 3:44 He could have went to a Junk Yard and got wheels shows Chevy Dealer
At 7:28 So what if it has bumpers from a Junk Yard shows Fiat Dealer
Out here in the boonies, you can get a 60's or 70's truck (Or Car) for chump change. Major components for those grow on every tree. I'm not courageous enough to buy a computerized space ship. too much to go wrong on them.
Lol funny I bought a 06 eclipse from a customer that had a broken tbelt bent all valves 80k miles 3 years ago paid 500 for car 400 for a head and a tbelt kit 4 hours of my own time and have put 50 k on it since , been a great daily driver..
"could have gone to a junkyard for wheels" *shows picture of chevy dealership* LMAO
Good evening Scotty! Great Auction/ Salvage Info sir 👍
So what is the name of the place that did the salvage work!?
Absolutely love his videos
Jokes always killing it. Haha
I own a 2020 Camry XSE too.
Even though you got it used it’s a Toyota which makes it a good thing
@@naveenthemachine yup 💯 at the end of the day I’m not upset about it, I know it will last. btw what kind of Camry xse do you have? I have the two tone white and black exterior with the red interior. The red seats sold me lol. But the gray and black two tone camrys imo look better
@@___AWFUL___ mines the 2020 XSE v6 fully loaded w nav 360 cam and ventilated seats. Silver exterior with black two tone roof and red interior
@@naveenthemachine I have a 2020 Oscar Mayer Weiner Car
Yeah u bought a Toyota which the dealer sees it depreciate about 500 bucks. Ur better off buying new Toyotas
Happy Sunday scotty!
happy Sunday!
Scotty has more energy than I have and I'm a lot younger . Call me impressed .
I have a 2008 Eclipse with 160K and runs great but I have the P0420 light and apparently needs $2K worth of catalytic converters.
LOL when the Chevrolet dealership showed up!
Thank God there is still some honest people about doing an honest days work.
Good evening Scotty I hope you're doing well today on a Sunday, my car's 4 5 10 15 years or until they just die on the street!🧰🙌👍🍺
evening and good plan!
This is true my 350z I bought for 3k now there 8-10k
Ouch.😬
3k? Was it an absolute POS? where in the world can you get a 350z for 3 grand? Here in Australia they start at 15-20k
@@Jimmy-fw1wd no running and driving 133k miles only needed minor body work and a front bumper from an auction
@@blizarrdd5398 Dude that's a fantastic buy even for an auction. Those engines are incredible! Such a nice sounding note to them. I actually prefer 350's over GTRS. Hell of a fun car.
@@Jimmy-fw1wd yeah exactly 350z’s are great don’t see them clean very often though
06’ Mitsubishi Eclipse but not a convertible. If this work was done out of state and honest want to know where I can do the same.
2022 no stick shift in Aston Vantage.
The automatic hydra is biting deep.
