While remastering does cover even the tiniest little changes, most people usually associate it with rather major overhauls like what happened with Homeworld. While Halo 4 was remastered, it seems a little too soon since the only real difference was slightly better resolution, smoother framerate, and some slight lighting improvements.
Its not remastered, just ported, the mcc only make the games run at a higger framerate and some ilumination details, but only halo ce and halo 2 were remastered
According to Wikipedia, the term remaster "... refers to enhancing the quality of the sound or of the image, or both, of previously created recordings, either audiophonic, cinematic, or videographic." Every game in the MCC is a remastering because the image quality (frame rate, resolution, lighting) has been improved. "Remade" is a better term for the graphical changes to Halo CE and 2.
If you're going to do a comparison video, then put them side by side (split in half). Otherwise it gets very difficult to see the changes. Once just seems to have more fog then the other.
my first console was X360 and my first game was Halo 4, when i play it, i actually thought that it was real life, for 2012 was a very nice looking game
Halo 4 may just get my nod as the most technically impressive game of the last gen: large play areas, superb AI, loads of particle effects, smooth/consistent frame-rate, gorgeous lighting, fantastic real-time cutscenes. The game just looked stunning! The only negative was the intrusive jaggies on some of the interior levels.
Halo 4 already looked great on Xbox360. The only big difference is 60fps. Gamers that are not "polygon counters" or obsessed with resolution can tell almost no defference between the Xbox360 version and the XboxOne.
I wouldn't really expect a "remastered" Halo 4 to be anything special. It was already goddamn close to Xbox 1 levels of graphics. Shiny, crisp, clear, etc.
Well, nothing has changed much but I can tell a little difference. The edges are much sharper and less blurred, his visor is too less blurred and has more shine/reflection to it, but that's my opinion.
I am a huge halo fan, too. When I first saw the graphic of Halo 4,the graphic of origin halo 4 is already very very very gorgeous,to think about it , it is only on xbox 360, ten more years old console.I think the graphic is at peak ,too.In my view the problem is only about resolution and frame on xbox one ,so just make it to 1080p and 60fps,is perfect.I think we should thanks halo team.Make classical halos all in 1080P and 60fps,it is an epic.
This isn't a "Remaster" of Halo 4, but a simple upgrade. The whole point of buying the collection is mainly for Halo 2 Anniversary, and all the multiplayer content. In this video it's fairly obvious that they kept the original textures from the 360 version, but the full resolution, and slightly increased shadowing detail on the XBOne version makes everything a little crisper and more realistic-looking.
Only a slight upgrade, yet Halo 4 was native 720p and the Halo 4 from HMCC is supposed to be 1080p, but I don't see much difference. Hopefully the frame rate is 60fps like it says and not 30fps.
the writing on the floor in the pelican bay argues otherwise, in the original it's readable, but has slight pixel at ion, remastered it's crisp and clear just like small text in gtav
The only difference I can see is there is some better texture quality and a more up to date rendering system when it comes to lighting/fx quality. I work with graphics and I have to really look to figure out the difference here.
I never had a xbox console (classic,360,one),but i have to say, this game is awesome, this is a real exclusive, good game to make xbox 360 become face to face with ps3 strenght than never. I dont have played any Halo´s game,i do not want to play this, but this game is Great.
It really doesn't matter because they look actually the same. It just looks like they've sharpened the texture, but H2A and CE was more of a remaster. :)
I love how many kids are crying over the fact that a remaster isn't a game that is graphically rebuilt from the ground up. Yes lately a lot of remastered titles have been, but that is not always the case. In general a remaster is just polished, ported, or a polished port. The term remaster does not mean that there has to be a huge graphics overhaul. Remaster simply means that improvements were made.
It's not remastered, the resolution has been increased and the lighting has been changed. 343i never used "Halo 4" and "remastered" in the same sentence, except for may with the addition of "not".
When you play the original Halo 4 (Xbox 360 version) you'll notice; when driving or walking through water, it has tessellation. The one in Master Chief Collection has no water tessellation... Why? Halo 3 on MCC has it, so why remove it in Halo 4?! Such a strange thing to remove. It might be that they could not properly port the tessellation code. They probably managed the Halo 3 tessellation since they have tried a PC port since 2012 or so, more time to port code.
I honestly dont see that much of a difference in the upgrades for halo 4. The graphics just got a bit shinier and the frame rates got a bit faster which is 2 things that give the best experiance. Overall the upgrades are pretty nicely improved for a game that already had good looks
With Halo 2 Anniversary there is a huge change. With Halo 3 they're isn't a change because they didn't make any changes to Halo 3 because it's not the 10 yr anniversary for that game yet.
TheSonicfanx1 Thats because its a simple port. The only differences is 1080p and 60fps. They never even attempted to improve the graphics, just the resolution and fps. Same with Halo 3. The only game that was remeastered for Xbox One was Halo 2 Anniversary, and like Halo 4 the rest are mere ports. Don't know why everyone is whining.
Still can't believe halo 4 runs on an xbox 360. Goes to show how much developers got out of that box. Shame they dont do that for the current generation.
Anything with an easy integer variable got turned up a bit. So the biggest difference I can see is they pushed out the LOD and mipmapping a little. Distant objects fade in a little sooner and are a little sharper and fade to their full model a little further out. Shadows and reflections are a higher resolution as well but that seems to be it. All effects are identical to 360 and the textures are seemingly identical as well. This is less work than the other "Not really remastered" titles got. In contrast Halo 3, ODST and Reach have all these really basic enhancements but in addition if you select Enhanced graphics they have lots of cleaned up or uncompressed textures AND some reworked effects to account for higher resolutions. Halo 4's textures and effects end up looking a little pixellated in comparison to the rest because of this. Shit even Halo 1 got its original graphics totally repaired and they even replaced some of the tetxures with uncompressed versions there too. Halo 4 clearly got the least work out of the group. Also, ALL games in the collection got fov adjustment, viewmodel centering, modern aiming, and motion interpolation for all animations so that's pretty rad.
Someone said that Halo 4 needs a remake. I told that guy that he was a funny idiot. For a game that came out in 2012, these graphics are still fucking GORGEOUS! Since Next Gen games already look photorealistic as it is, game remakes will be a thing of the past!!!
+Joshua Mitchell Very true, I dont think many ppl give Halo 4 the credit it deserves from visual perspective....it was one of the best looking games on Xbox 360, much the same like The Last of US was on PS3. I mean I dont think that even Halo Reach looks that bad, it still looks quite nice imo....the only games in the series that I would like to get remake, would be Halo 3 and ODST, cause now they are in many ways the inferior looking games in the franchise, especially Halo 3 with its facial graphics/expressions that looked ugly even back in 2007, but I can do without, I think that what MC collection offers on Xbox One is already enough.
+Balnazzardi I agree, man. Halo 4 is the kind of game that NEVER needs a remake at all. Halo 3 and ODST are the only games left that need it (I'd have no problem if there wasn't). However, if 343 are going to do it, they need to focus on JUST Halo 3. None of that collection bullshit. They bit off more than they could chew there.

*sits back an thinks of fail*
That is the human technology . Very poor than your. Anyway prepare for the next war(Halo 5). We can win all wars just ... togheter,my Sangheili pal!
Technically not remastered halo 4... Just improved to 60fps
and 1080p which is a big improvement
2024 and those graphics are still looking really impresive
Only small differences....
God I want to play Halo 4 again. My roommate and I are currently marathoning Halo, we just started Halo 2.
The only big difference is it's 60 frames per second on the Master Chief collection
And the original is like 45 or 30 frames per second.
And that's the minor differences between 1080p and 720p 0:28
Can't wait to see this on PC, I LOVED halo 4, even though it looked like vanquish.
the background music touches my soul
2:57 i'm but how in the hell does your UI get more detailed on newer hardware??? It's the UI that shouldn't be messing with anything...
Nice to see they cleaned it up a little
Definitely noticeable. The colors seem a little fuller in the updated version.
Halo 4 looks like it came out in 2015-2016 instead of 2012. Pretty ahead of it's time, in my opinion
Ya know all the MCC ads is that everything is actually a bit smaller , everything is shinier and fresh oh and some minor tweaks on the hud
I wouldn’t call the mcc version a “remaster”, it’s more of a port to pc/newer consoles with slightly higher quality graphics.
Halo 4 still holds up. Very good looking. I really like the art style of halo 4 on some points. Like the lights and stuff
The remastered just looks more sharper, noticeably in the distance. And change of colours.

Man halo 4 looked good.
If only the remastered Reach instead. That's a game that actually needs a remaster
Four years for the update of halo reach
I know the video is old, but You missed out on the lack of water physics in halo 4 MCC edition.
the writing on the floor in the pelican bay argues otherwise, in the original it's readable, but has slight pixel at ion, remastered it's crisp and clear just like small text in gtav
Just remember we are looking at halo 4 the game looked amazing on xbox 360
i didnt even realy see the diffrence. id still be stoked to play either one
Just noticed the evolution of the helmet visor, to halo 5.
Halo 4 was the first FPS game I ever played. It has a special place
May I know the music in this video? It reminds me of a metroid game's music in a way. :)
They probably managed the Halo 3 tessellation since they have tried a PC port since 2012 or so, more time to port code.
damn the original looks so good today
I honestly dont see that much of a difference in the upgrades for halo 4. The graphics just got a bit shinier and the frame rates got a bit faster which is 2 things that give the best experiance. Overall the upgrades are pretty nicely improved for a game that already had good looks
with or without a remaster this game will ever have cool graphics
Halo 4 + oclusion ambiental = halo 4 remasterizado xdd
Only slight improvements here and there in regards to resolution change. Shame, I kind of expected it to have a...bigger change.
With Halo 2 Anniversary there is a huge change. With Halo 3 they're isn't a change because they didn't make any changes to Halo 3 because it's not the 10 yr anniversary for that game yet.
Halo Disciple
I know. Just talking about Halo 4, I thought the graphical difference between 360 and One would be greater.
TheSonicfanx1 To think that both version of halo 4 still only render shadows on corpses from five feet away. Five feet. Five fucking feet.
Jason Tsai
BWHAHAHA!!!
TheSonicfanx1
Thats because its a simple port.
The difference is much more noticeable on the console IMO. Also the X1 version appears to have a slightly different HUD to me.
Still can't believe halo 4 runs on an xbox 360. Goes to show how much developers got out of that box. Shame they dont do that for the current generation.
Is there a difference in graphics when purchasing Halo 4 standalone on steam vs getting it with the Halo: The Master Chief Collection
?
Wow it still looks great!
They only upgraded the resolution, to be expected. But I would have like a longer draw distance on the shadows.
Wrong, lighting changes and minor graphic changes
Derek Biz I failed to see any other changes
Lol the only difference is that one runs in 4K. It doesn't even come close to a remaster
There is a difference between Remaster and Remade
looks like some updated textures and resolution increases
They bit off more than they could chew there.
that off-center crosshair always makes me wanna throw up. how did fps degenerate so badly
Cool video :)
