    I have learned a number of ways to make a longer sustain on various bowls. The longest sustain thus far and the vibrations into my body, especially for a 10 inch bowl, I place the bowl upon a solid 3 inch diameter onyx glass coaster. It has a thin rubber mat glued under it. I place the coaster upside down on a solid table, then place the bowl on top of the rubber side coaster. The sustain is much longer than if the bowl sat upon the traditional square, round, or ring cushion that comes with the bowl. For body penetrating vibrations, I lay down flat on a couch or my bed, place the coaster upon my chest, and using the spongy mallet, the sound definitely penetrates through my chest. Amazing vibes! Bowl must rest upon the coaster's rubber padding, otherwise placing the bowl directly on top of the coaster will cause noisy vibrations. Other solid stones such as marble, granite, work very well too. If you don't have stone coasters, buy a solid stone tile from the hardware store, the type used on floors. But on top of the tile, place those non-slip rubberize shelf liners to prevent noisy vibrations. Solid wood surfaces such as the dinner table with the rubberize shelf liner works well also. Great tutorial. Aloha from Hawaii.

    Hi Andrea. I really like your Channel
    I’m so interested in Singing Bowl recently. I have a question which one should I start first for Tibetan or Crystal bowl first? I’m gonna take a course soon.
    Thanks so much to creating such a mindful vdo.

      I think it depends on how you will use the bowl and really it is which sounds you prefer. The Tibetan have shown to really help calm brain wave patterns. Also important to make sure you buy a good quality bowl, makes all the difference!

    Hi Andrea, I really like your videos, thank you for sharing! It's very informative for beginner. May I know what's the different between singing bowls & dolphin bowls? Can both combine to use it together? Look forward to your reply. Thank you

      Thank you 💕 I have not heard of dolphin bowls, is this the correct name? Anything musical , you can combine if they are creating harmony together,, if they are in tune together, and if the timbre matches well together.

      @@AndreaCortez Thank you so much for your reply! 💖Dolphin bowls are bowls that can be filled with a small amount of water, it can imitate the sound of a dolphin. I bought one, yet i'm not sure how to combine it with the normal singing bowls :)

    Thank you for the video :D
    And i hope my below questions aren't too confusing 😅
    Is the harmony created with octave, 3rd, 4th and 5th's referring to the fundamental tone only? Or also to the overtones, rim tone etc?
    Like if we have one bowl and the fundamental is C, we try to match with bowls that have fundamental tones of E, F and G for example.
    But do we try to match the rim tone or other overtones with the C major scale (or maybe harmonic scale)? Or are these bowls just too varied to be able to match rim tones and other overtones?
    As in would it be practically impossible to have the above-mentioned bowls for example with all overtones etc tuned to the original C major scale and being harmonious in that way...?
    e.g. C bowl with overtones in the Cmaj scale + E bowl with 3/4/or 5th overtones (G,A,B: Em scale) + G bowl with 3/4/or 5th (B,C,D: Gmaj scale) = fundamentals of all bowls fit into the 3rd, 4th or 5th harmonising with the Cmaj scale as well as all the overtones / rim tones being in the Cmaj scale...
    Does harmonising the bowls get this complicated? Or do you just stick to harmonizing the 3/4/5 and octave to the fundamental of one starter bowl and not worry so much about the overtones, rim tone etc?
    Confusing? 😅😅
    Thank you, and apologies to anyone who read this whole thing.

    • @AndreaCortez
      @AndreaCortez  10 месяцев назад

      I don't match the bowls by the rim tones, that is the note that comes when you sing the bowl around the rim. Many times the bowl played this way is very soft and works best in 1:1 sessions. The exact notes of these bowls can vary so yes it is difficult to match them exactly in harmony. But it is actually in the overtones that are expressed through striking the bowl that gives it its complexity and it is ok to not try to match the overtones. Most important is to listen to the fundamental tone to see how precise it is, and ALSO make sure the overtones don't sound too dissonant within one bowl by itself.

      I love both of them. The crystal ones are great to vocalize with. The Tibetan have a strong effect on relaxing brain wave patterns and are good for sound therapy sessions.

    Hi what bowl is good for beginners on that website? I can only get a 4 or 5 inch. Pls help

    • @AndreaCortez
      @AndreaCortez  10 месяцев назад

      The range matters more than the specific frequency. Ideally it is better to start in the lower range which would be at least 7-8 inches size. But 5 inches is ok, listen to the recordings on the website to find what resonates with you.

    i need metal bowls that are in 432, do you have any advice. i do music, drone sound healing type. i have listened and measured the tones of dozens online and have yet to find ones that are really tuned (not like the crystal ones which i do not prefer, but are usually well tuned)
    i have 2 and i use water to retune them but i like small bowls with higher pitches and it affects the sound too much

    • @AndreaCortez
      @AndreaCortez  Год назад

      The Himalayan or Tibetan metal bowls are difficult to find in exact pitch because of their complex overtones that sound when played, and sometimes the overtones within a single bowl are dissonant. This is a shop I recommend but she will likely tell you that you would just have to find a bowl that is lower than 440HZ tuning by looking at bowls that are slightly flat. I don't think that they make these bowls to 432HZ, but this shop knows how to tell the tuning of each bowl. www.bodhisattva.com

    What is the 10 inch bowel ? Does have a name ?

    • @AndreaCortez
      @AndreaCortez  2 года назад +3

      This note is an E flat if I remember correctly, But really if you get a 10" bowl from ISingingbowls.com then any bowl in this larger size is going to sound deep and beautiful. If you are only getting 1-2 Tibetan bowls I recommend getting the larger sizes. The exact note is not as important as the quality of the bowl and the lower frequency.
