The slog of the 2022 NFL season is just about over. The final pieces are being put in place to prepare for the upcoming playoffs. However, before we go there, there are plenty of loose ends to cover up in this great quest. Some teams are resting up for the final push. Some are fighting for their lives. Others are merely going through the motions in order to regroup for the cold embrace of the offseason.
Either way, this is Week EIghteen of the NFL season, and the final edition of Sportsball for 2022 (and January 2023). The Haters Guide is next, but for the meantime: More rambling!

Considering that "Run the dang ball" was added to the intro shortly after Richard Sherman said it, I wouldn't be surprised if "That's not what he wanted to cook" stuck around for quite a while.

I agree. What’s crazy is that there’s a chance that by winning that game he allowed three teams to get franchise QB’s if Anthony Richardson pans out. Which is a situation that I’ve never seen before where one game inadvertently changed the fortunes of 3 teams

As a lions fan, this was the best ending I could’ve hoped for without a playoff berth. And thank you tree for using the NBA on NBC theme for he tank bowls. I loved that theme back in the day

I just hope that the Lions can actually build on this as opposed to what they normally do when a new season comes around-- forget everything they did well before and go back to losing one close game after another. Not to be pessimistic, it's just that I've been following them for a very long time and it's just what they love to do.

Most of why SOL was such a big thing was that for all the change that happened at the team level, nothing ever changed at the executive level. But now we have a newblood Ford running the org, a GM in Brad Holmes who thus far has been stellar in the draft, and a head coach who's building a winning culture and has won a very disenfranchised locker room. This isn't a smoke and mirrors decent Lions team like we had during the Caldwell years, it feels like they've finally woken up and are trying to build a _real_ program.
At the very least, they are at least entertaining to watch. Don't think I've ever actually had fun watching the Lions until the past couple years.

I just want to thank UrinatingTree for yet another year of phenomenal weekly NFL coverage. I remember in Week 17 of 2017 he said something along the lines of "This was a lot of work, not sure if I'll do this every year." Well, for the 6th straight year, he put the work in to give us great football content on a weekly basis. From a longtime fan, thank you for doing what you do.
This channel has singlehandedly gotten me back into the NFL this season, thanks Tree

I spent more time watching this series than I did actual NFL games this season. I needed your quality comedic/analytical spin to stomach it because of how shitty a product it was on its own. Another solid year of work, Tree. Hopefully you have time for a nice breather after this (and the hater's guide). You deserve it for all the work you put in each season. Let's raise a glass to our shitty teams.
I don't care about the NFL aside from my fantasy teams and being able to hold my own at watercooler and barbershop conversations. Most of my hot NFL takes are stolen straight from Sportsball videos.

I disagree with Quay Walker winning LolCow of the Week. The Texans should've won LolCow of the Week AND Season for fucking up one of their easiest and greatest tanks in NFL history.
It's par from the course with the Texans to be Lolcows because they're used doing such. It's better to give it to a team or players who have pulled extreme stupidity and dumbass stunts and paid for it.
As a Bears fan, I've never been so happy to win the Tank Bowl.
Hats off to the Detroit Lions. Started out 1-6 came roaring back and forced themselves into playoff contention. Didn’t make due to the tiebreaker with Seattle (and some bad officiating) but knocked down and out their former bully in the Packers. I look forward to their next season with great interest
They started 1-6 and then finished over .500, if someone had told me that in week 7, I'd have been very skeptical. But they refused to tank and somehow fought their way out of the hole. Respect to the Lions for making that happen.

One the craziest seasons I think I have watched.
Not a single team finished with a Strength of Victory above .500 (And only one team finished with a SOV at .500, the Colts.).
That alone proves this was not a good season.
And for reference there was 3 playoff teams with a SOV above .500 plus 1 at .500 last year.

We were expecting a Super Tank Bowl contender and instead are playing January Football. We didn't care about anything past Win #6 and seeing everyone developing and that Geno is a good short term option. Doesn't change the fact that I want us to draft a rookie before the end of Round 2 in April.
Thank God for sportsball! I'm gonna miss it if it's gone next year, but it's helped me get into the chaos of sportsball. I can't wait for the haters guide and that World Cup video

I haven't watched much actual football since the Raiders packed up and moved to the desert, breaking many fan's hearts in the process, but I never missed a single episode of this year's Sportsball season. I know things have been tough for you lately, tree, so if you need to take a long ass break once football is completely over for the year, and just not do anything on RUclips for a long time, then please, by all means, do it. You've earned it, and you deserve it. I think I can speak for all of us when I say that you're fans will be right here waiting when you get back, if you do indeed decide to just stop and rest for a while.
