I just finished watching your new video, Paul, re: your new Hilleberg Nallo 3. Comments on your video are turned OFF Warm Regards from Reno, Nevada U.S.A.
I'm always amused by click bait claims to be 'camping in a storm', or 'heavy snow' when there's a bit of breeze and a few flakes: Your videos on the other hand are the real deal.
Thank you, Jarl, for taking your time, effort, & equipment to share your adventure with MEeee. At 1:00 o'clock in the morning out of an absolute necessity to keep from being buried alive, having to dress, go outside & shovel all that snow - knowing you'll likely have to do it again several hours later. I've never seen that much snow fall in such a short period of time & for such a long period of time. I can really appreciate how good that HOT COFFEE was in the morning. Probably one of the best cups of coffee, ever. I doubt few campers have ever had to dig out as much snow in the morning to retrieve the tent stakes as you. Down to your knees while wearing skis, every step, unbelievable. Your situation would have been perilous without skis to keep you high enough above snow to where you could at least step forward. I don't see how you're going to go anywhere in the van for a week or more. Incidentally, Thermarest has a new XTherm NXT air mattress that is lighter, has a higher R rating of 7.3, is 1/2" thicker AND Western Mountaineering has a new sleeping bag with more Down fill, more loft, called the Bison. Warm Regards from Reno, Nevada U.S.A.
Haha, it was the most snow I have ever experienced, and yes, it was indeed a great cup of coffee. Getting out with the van is another story, coming soon lol, thanks for all the support Bill!
I see it now, did you add it? I know about the Bison, and the Thermarest you mention might be very close to the Max vapor that I own. I dont really swap my gear unless it breaks😂

I've had to re-watch this twice. This is my MOST FAVORITE video/adventure you've ever created. This adventure belongs in a class of its own. Thankfully there weren't strong gusty winds. I can well imagine the effort required for each step with the weight of your boots/skis & having to lift each leg up to the height of your other knee. I can well imagine you wished a million times you had snow shoes instead of skis on the return trip to the Van. And this adventure still has a Part II - I'm really looking forward to it & all the details. Warm Regards from Reno, Nevada U.S.A.
Thanks Bill, I am glad you enjoyed it so much, I was super stoked when I saw how much snow was coming down, there will also be twice as long version of the video:-)
@@NorwegianXplorer I'm wondering - did you entertain any thought processes between Snow Shoes & Skis B4 leaving the van on your skis? Snow Shoes instead of skis is quite likely the one thing you would have differently..
@@azclaimjumper I never use snow shoes really, even though I have done it in a couple of videos for simplicity. I have snow shoes with me, but that would have been terrible. Snow shoes is kind of considered a no no in Norway and is mostly used by tourists from countries that dont know how to ski. Snow shoes limits you when it comes to going uphill or downhill and you can not slide forward on them and they are slow. I will always chose skis before snow shoes🙂
@@NorwegianXplorer I've rented snowshoes twice & found them heavy & awkward, perhaps because I'm not accustomed to 'em. Decades ago, I was an expert parallel skier, back in the days when I laced my boots & metal skis like Head 180's where all the rage. Snow shoes for "tourists". Good one!😇😄😃😀
Head skis, yeah, I remember those from when I used to go to resorts. I agree with you snowshoes are awkward, I can get away with bringing one or no poles when I use snow shoes, so it makes filming a bit easier, but there is some truth to the saying "Norwegian are born with skis on their feet". Great adventure. I have watched many of your Mt Baldy videos from California. Great camera work. I can't wait to see how you get out of there with your van being almost buried as well. Cheers from Los Angeles.
Wow what an incredible video. That’s the biggest snow dump I’ve seen! Having been out in similar conditions I know how incredibly energy sapping that walk out in deep snow will have been. Out of interest, when that much snow is forecast do you not prefer a dome type tent for the structural strength of the poles crossing in the roof? Thanks for sharing a great adventure 👍
Glad you enjoyed it! This tent can take a whole lot of snow so I dont think about using a different tent, I just frequently kick the snow off the roof from inside the tent.
Your lucky it wasn’t wet heavy snow my friend! I had snowfall in Canada that was as heavy snowfall. You did very well in the circumstances! Congratulations! I’m glad you had a Hilleberg as few tents could handle so much snowfall
This is great. Love to see actual snow load capabilities of 4 season tents. I posted a video last week, Burried in the Catskills.. my Black Diamond Hilight 3p tent got dumped on with 2- 3 feet of wet heavy snow.. held up perfectly!! All that snow for you.. maybe snowshoes would have made it a little easier? Couldn't say for sure as I have never used ski's.. you do sink with snowshoes too but it may have been slightly easier.. anyway, as usual great video!! I always look forward to your adventures!! Thanks for taking time to post and share!!!
I also love a good snow storm. Here in Northern Ontario we are expecting snow today so hopefully I can get snowshoeing a few more times. Friends are tapping some of our maple trees to make syrup.
This is your best adventure yet! Snowshoes the next time. Wondered about your vehicle being snowed in. Safety first. Your love of snowfall may get the upper hand. Take care!
Buried alive ! What a heavy title ! But it became hard reality ! Not quite pretty having to get out in the middle of the night for digging.... However, it did not affect your optimism and happiness.... 😆Although you could have slept in your van, you prefered this rough experience. Beautiful scenery-pictures during day, pure poetry ! And now, up to other adventures !?... Good luck, Jarl !
That is an exceptionally sturdy tent to support all the weight of that much snow. I love a good snowstorm but maybe that was just a tad too much snow to deal with. Bet you lost a good five pounds doing this video. I also bet that you loved every minute of it. I like watching a good-looking guy enjoying what he likes doing best! Thanks.
I remember my first scout camp in the mid 1980s. Sleeping bag from the Littlewoods catalogue comfort rating around +30 C. Scotland in February. No Sleeping mats at all. Two nights of hell. 40 years later still wild camping, kit costs a fortune but works.
I’ve never done what you’re doing in this video. So adventurous! I loved your reaction shots and your commentary. I wonder what would have happened if you just left piled-up snow atop your tent and went to sleep instead of digging out?
Thanks Barclay, I believe the tent would have sagged a lot and then finally maybe caved in. I dont know how much air you would need to survive for a night, but I do believe there would be enough, it is a pretty spacious tent, but I am not sure:-)
OMG I have never seen so much snowfall. I thought just as you were digging around you could do with making a trench so the snow you kick off falls into the trench. Did you manage to get any sleep at all?. My Nephew's mum (ex sister in law) posted photos of the snowfall they had experienced in Norway. It must have been the same snowstorm as they had like 3 or 4 ft of it. Wow just wow. Fabulous video just watching it again now (it's been a very stressful day)❤❤

Thanks!
I also love a good snow storm. Here in Northern Ontario we are expecting snow today so hopefully I can get snowshoeing a few more times. Friends are tapping some of our maple trees to make syrup.
Hope you get to go snowshoeing
what an amazing video !
Glad you liked it Oren!
I truly love your channel. Keep doing the best work.🤩🤩
Thank you so much 😀
@@ottouring 👍👍
Not for the faint of heart. Good video👍
Thanks 👍
This is your best adventure yet! Snowshoes the next time. Wondered about your vehicle being snowed in. Safety first. Your love of snowfall may get the upper hand. Take care!
Thanks Lynn!
Warmer very quiet and great shelter.
Thank you Regine, it was a great experience in every way!
Thanks.
Haha, thanks Judi🙏
🇹🇷🙏 I am watching you with love, I am watching from Turkey, I appreciate you, I wish you continued success, it was a great camp, super 👏👏👏👏👏
Thank you Serife, appreciate it
😁🇹🇷🙏 I love coffee too, although not as much as you
Oh & i forgot to add, gosh, you received so much snow!!
So wonderful to see, although, getting buried alive doesn't sound too enticing! haha
Lol, as long as you stay alive
@@NorwegianXplorer 😄👍👍
Woow,so wonderful ..
Thank you! Cheers!
Amazing. Almost seems reasonable to bring two tents. When one gets berried just set up the next one
Lol! I just bought another Nallo 3 with and extended vestibule, so maybe😂
Great video ! Stay safe ❤
Thank you Theresa!
I remember my first scout camp in the mid 1980s. Sleeping bag from the Littlewoods catalogue comfort rating around +30 C.
Scotland in February. No Sleeping mats at all. Two nights of hell.
40 years later still wild camping, kit costs a fortune but works.
That is awesome!
I don't think I was that cold ever again, but I was too shy to tell anyone I was so freezing.
Wow😊
🙏
I’ve never done what you’re doing in this video. So adventurous! I loved your reaction shots and your commentary. I wonder what would have happened if you just left piled-up snow atop your tent and went to sleep instead of digging out?
Thanks Barclay, I believe the tent would have sagged a lot and then finally maybe caved in. I dont know how much air you would need to survive for a night, but I do believe there would be enough, it is a pretty spacious tent, but I am not sure:-)
Sie machen sehr gute Videos
Thank you!
👍 Norway is a beautiful place☺️
It can be:-)
OMG I have never seen so much snowfall.
Fabulous video just watching it again now (it's been a very stressful day)❤❤
Thank you Kimberley, glad you fin the video relaxing!
People talk about how they like that you don't talk but I like it when you talk lol
Lol, yes there are both schools, i just do what I feel like, and then I will make an ASMR version of the video with no talking as well sometimes:-)
@@NorwegianXplorer I'v'e done a few really bad asmr's on my channel lol. Horrible but I tried. I'm watching this video for the second time. So beautiful and you are so strong with all of the snow shoveling! wow!
@@cmarie5355 Thank you🙂
Woww omg very good work.
Thank you! Cheers!
Det var en vanvittig mengde snø😮 godt du kom deg ut❤
well the tent held up pretty good!
Yes it did:-)
Always be safe my friend
Thanks you too
I wish I was with you on that one, great video.
Thank you, great times!
