@@HaleyJeanASMR lol? I honestly thought I was missing some joke based on all those likes. The Declaration of Independence was, rather famously, July 4th. But that didn't end the war... It wasn't formally 'granted' as you say until around 7 years later. But yes, the war started on April 19th. I'ma just hope all this confusion isn't from U.S. citizens.

Her pattern with it seems to be 2 re-releases and then a new album after that since 2021 when she started. Fearless and Red. Then Speak Now and 1989. I see debut and Reputation coming possibly in the order of Debut and then Reputation becsuse she's doing older then newer ones. At least just the stuff I noticed.

Red's lyricism in many ways is just as good as folklore's (in my opinion). All Too Well, State of Grace, Nothing New, Ronan, Begin Again, etc. They all have great lyrics!

In her album of the year speech, she said “I would say this is the most excited I’ve been but this is how I feel when I finish a song or a bridge etc.” so I do think what you said that this album will be very vulnerable and RAWWW.

This has got to be a continuation of her infatuation with The Lakes. "Take me to the lakes where all the poets went to die" I think when her relationship was falling apart with Joe she kept thinking about the time they spent together in the Lakes District. And now she can finally talk about what happened in the relationship.
That lyric was actually about the lake poets William Wordsworth, Samuel Taylor Coleridge, and Robert Southey, who lived in the English Lake District which was actually another Easter egg about this album

The more I listen to the lakes the more it seems to fit with the Tortured Poets Department. "I'm setting off, but not without my muse" and now she's entering her muses into evidence.

I think this is a genius career move, because right now Taylor is as influential as a human being can be, and she has all the leverage to shape the narrative however she wants it. And by doing this album, she chose to define her career not by her popularity, but by shifting the focus onto her artistic abilities, which is surprisingly not what most people beside Swifties focuses on. Then, from this album on she will be able to quietly put out whatever non-mainstream genre she’s comfortable in while simultaneously reaping heaps of popularity (which is the opposite of what happens to other artists). She’s literally recoding her own career, and the music industry.
I can't really explain it but this album feels so much more mature. The imagery feels much more grown up, the language used in the initial marketing feels very mature as well - maybe it's because we've had the re-recordings which have obviously given us a lot of past memories and vibes, but I feel like this is going to be so groundbreaking for her and a real elevation in her artistry. ALSO, I'm getting big "no body, no crime" vibes with the 'evidence' in the letter and I'm so excited to see the depth in this album

As a writer with an M.A. in English Literature and sickly focused Swiftie, this album is going to undo me. I look at the artwork on the cover, and her arms are in a protective, defensive posture, but I also think shots have been fired with this announcement. American Freedom may be the lens, but this is all about the girl who asked to be taken to The Lakes and asked what her words are worth...This department may tell us rather than ask us. Plus the 2 year secret comment coinciding with the original writing/recording date for You're Losing Me. I think this is gonna be the Joe breakup album and I'm ready to have my heart stomped on. Big folklore/evermore/cowboy like me vibes

I await the Florence Welch collab!! But also find it interesting that this is coming out nearly exactly a year after her breakup with Joe was announced seemingly prematurely (likely leaked early), makes me feel like there’s was a NDA that lasted a year and now here we are 😅
I have two theories so far.
First, it feels significant that the new album is diverting from the one-word title trend (even though, yes, Speak Now is two words). To me, this feels veeeeery different than the branding of any previous TS albums, almost signifying that Taylor is done with the idea of ~eras~ as concise, tag-yourself concepts. It feels like her albums/aesthetics are going to get more fluid from here on out.
Second, I think the two-month gap in the Eras tour is going to be used to rework the show (to include some time for TPD). She did tell us the setlist wasn't final, after all...
But when it comes to Taylor, who really knows?
I agree on the setlist, it was always so weird to me, especially when she released the movie so early I was very suspicious !
I was thinking that post on instagram when she was announced time person of the year, how she listed a few names of artists. What if that was an Easter egg for possible collaborations on this album. But yes I 100% agree with the setlist

I think Midnights was not a breakup album but it alluded to the first wave of trouble Taylor faced in her relationship with Joe. We don't know what happened, but I think the song The Great War is telling us that there was a big rift that she thought would be the only war they'd have to fight, like when the US and UK fought in the great war not knowing it would just be WW1. Now Taylor and Joe have fought a second war that resulted in them no longer being allies. Hence the black and white, old hollywood vibe that originated very shortly after the second world war. Just my theory!

I think it's worth considering that the great war was possibly written after you're losing me (now that we know how old YLM) - "that was the night I almost lost you". And she possibly thought they had made it past that night when YLM was written and didn't release it until it was clear they really were in fact over
@@Shady_Belle I agree, as much as YLM feels like a hard end I think they probably did come back from either hanging on the edge or got back together after a break. We don't have the story of the true end but it sounds like we're getting it with TPD! She only released YLM once she knew she wouldn't be talking negatively about someone she's still with.
@@torzimay that's exactly my thoughts as well. I don't think anyone, and especially not her, would release a song like YLM about someone they were still with. I think when she released it, that was her way of telling us that their relationship had ended.
@torzimay I also actually always felt like YLM had a little glimmer of hope at the end and I do think they worked things out for while after. As much as she says it's over on YLM, she also does say "unless you're choosing me", which gives an opening for them to stay together.

I’m calling it- this album will be a fan favorite. I’m hoping it has an old Hollywood/Lana sound, which she’s already given us a little like in songs like Snow On the Beach. She’s dressing very old Hollywood glam at recent appearances! Some of the song titles sound like they might be scathing. I can’t wait haha
Taylor and Joe were like tortured poets together with their sad songs. I think this album will be about the unraveling of that relationship with themes of unrequited marriage wishes and secrecy, with perhaps ending in a Declaration of Independence (how genius is the Revolutionary War "coincidence"?). I'm not-so-secretly hoping we get a bonus track about her new relationship, though I'm not expecting it since this album has been in the works for 2 yrs.
I agree - she did say she's been keeping it secret for 2 years, meaning before midnights. I'm curious if they may even have written parts of it together before the end of their relationship and its taken a few years to sort out their personal challenges and the turmoil of ending their relationship before it was possible to release this

The manuscript??? On her list of song names for this album there is a bonus track called The Manuscipt!! Manuscript= a book, document, or piece of music written by hand rather than typed or printed. It's also defined this way: an author's text that has not yet been published. 😮😮😮😮😮 That is literally gonna be the best song everrrrrrrrr ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

okayy so here’s what i’m thinking:
rep is mainly black (ik it’s black and white but we mainly associate it with black right) and this album is white which mean they’re basically ppposties of each other. it’s also kinda ironic bc we thought we were getting rep and now there’s this haha anyways so if they’re the opposite then that means this will be about losing joe rather than finding him right?. also i think there will be mainly stopper back production but a few faster ones as well (kinda like long story short in evermore yk) because on rep we had mainly pop production and then new year’s day etc. sooo excited for this album tho can’t believe it’s acc happening ahhhh 💗💗

to me, the whole concept so far is giving Anais Nin. the aesthetic, the cover, the colors, title. And we know she loves her literature so if I’m right about this we’re getting some spicy songs. I feel like this is going to be for the ciwyw / false god / so it goes people (aka me) and i’m here for it. (edit: to anyone unfamiliar with Anais Nin, she was a French American writer famous for her journals, poetry and essays, often of erotic nature. Highly recommend checking out her work, her writing is great)

Wow, hearing you say Poets Era really made this sink in for me. This album title made me think of the lakes from folklore (deluxe) "where all the poets went to die", so I wonder if those vibes will be present. Can't wait!! 🤍
One thing that the cover makes me think of is how relationships and breakups are not so black and white. She said that herself during the 1989, where she grew up and realized that both partners in a relationship play a part in why a relationship may have not lasted. Perhaps, in this album she will be more vulnerable and not only talk about what things Joe may have done to cause the breakup, but also talk about how she may have also contributed to that. If she does take that route in any way shape or form, I hope she shows herself some grace as well. We all know that she is guilty, like practically every human on earth, of being self-deprecating (as we see on You're Losing Me). In the end, no one is the "bad guy" in this situation. As she says in the Story of Us,
"Oh, a simple complication,
Miscommunications lead to fall out."
Only, in this case, things may not be so simple.

@@yutisima Some of my favourite songs from Taylor are the ones where she admits she's not the perfect one in relationships: (The Great War, Happiness, Back to December, Hoax, etc) I'm hoping this is what we're going to get. Evermore and Folklore are my top two favourite albums from her. A part of my isn't that confident though considering her recent behaviour and indirect comments towards Joe. (It's fueling my own personal conspiracy theory that he was the one who dumped her suddenly and this is why she can't seem to move on from him. It's just a theory though, so take it with a grain of salt).
I think that she's gonna announce the name of one song each show, as there are 17 shows before the album comes out🤍

I think that You're Losing Me and Hits Different could have been written for/similar to TPD. Possibly ended up being too pop and got added to Midnights later on! Both give poetic depression so I just know we're in for a WILD. Buckle up bards!!!
Okay wildcard theory, but what if it's like a fully fictional album that tells the stories of the people from the tortured poets department, and Taylor, as chairman, is telling these stories? This is probably just because the album title sounds like a dark academia book I would read, but if it is like a dark academia book, but in song form?
I also think it is going to be very different than anything we've ever heard from Taylor, because that title is soooo different (in the best way possible !!!). Vibes are gonna abe folklore lyrics, especially the lakes, but also kinda Lana del Rey?? She's been around Lana a lot lately and Lana's new album is going to be country, so may be they kinds shared their knowledge. Definitely a possibility that it's gonna be collaborative. Every tortured poet sharing their stories, art, poems with Taylor, the chairman.

I was watching The Grammys with my Mom too. Yesterday morning when Taylor put up the black and white profile pic, I said, "REP TV" but she said, "Maybe it's a new album!". I laughed at her and scoffed and rolled my eyes and everything that comes with denial and ruling out the impossible. As we watched Taylor's speech and I started falling apart piece by piece with each word Taylor spoke, my Mom pointed at me and screamed, "I FUCKING TOLD YOU!!!!!!! NOW GET ONLINE AND ORDER THE CD!!!!" My Mom is also a hardcore Swiftie and she doesn't cuss so that was A MOMENT for us both. 😂 I waited an hour and a half just to order the deluxe CD. Worth the wait.
As a folklore and evermore stan, this album better deliver on the poetry. I thought Midnights was going to be soft pop/acoustic rock....I was very wrong but with a title like THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT?!?!?!?! This is absolutely not going to be a POP album! No way! What are we supposed to do until April 19th?!?!😭😭😭

Its interesting because your coat of arms isn't your armor, in medieval times it's your sigil, the symbol of your family and who you belong to. So I think that "tarnished coat of arms" is closer to meaning the tarnished (or worn down over time) reputation. But that's just my interpretation as a history major!❤❤❤

I feel like the vibe is going to be lyricism of folklore and evermore but sound of midnights like moody / the fashion is going to be a cross between romantic Victorian corsets but also sexy but also academia schoolgirl
I honestly think she is going to include this album in the eras tour. It's objectively a very long tour and as she said before: you can't expect the songs you're going to get at the eras tour. I could perhaps see that she may get bored from doing the same choreography for every night and with it being a very well-oiled machine so to speak, it would be possible to add something to the show. I also think that is the reason we got the eras tour film already and why she is coming back to america. Also: it is still called the eras tour, and this is going to be one of her eras... Doing another tour just for this album just doesn't seem realistic when she's still in the middle of this one. Anyway those are my thoughts :)

When Taylor announced her new album I literally started crying (tears of joy ofc). I watched it later because of the time zone difference, so I quickly checked my Instagram to see what the album cover looks like. My first reaction was that the album title and the album cover were not really Taylor aesthetic. They looked and sounded different. So it makes me more excited on what the songs are gonna sound like and what’s the feel of the album. But at the same time it gives many folklore vibes mixed with rep and 1989. Like imagine if Folklore and Reputation had a baby, it would look like this. I wasn’t clowning on Rep tv cuz I kinda knew she wouldn’t announce that in the Grammy’s but I wasn’t expecting a whole new album. I am so excited.

the album cover reminds me of augustine. i feel like it represents loneliness and august definitely felt that way after james left her. she was obviously very vulnerable and all she could do was, well, write whatever masterpieces are in this album 🤍
