My name is bridget manzoor and my fave lyric is the whole of but daddy i love him, or the whole bit about vipers dressed in empaths clothing! love this video girl!!!
“Is it a wonder I broke? Let's hear one more joke, Then we could all just laugh until I cry”, is absolutely THE most devastating lyric ever written. As person who’s always been told that I’m sensitive and cant a joke that line still haunts me
Ugh, I feel ya. Being an autistic man in a toxic hypermasculine culture with a love for banter and double entendres, can really take a toll on self-confidence and mental health. Paranoia is constant: are they just teasing lightheartedly, maliciously making fun, or being completely serious? Or just pretending to do so? No wonder I broke, but joke away... or don't. Imposible to know. Shout-out to my psychiatrist, he saved me from certain doom 😂
I dont like the wourld muses, joe was with her for a long time. M was just a fling -a string w/one night stands- not a RL & TK she is with know .Muses is to downgrade them and the relationship. Joerelationship was probably the right one at the time & hopefully TK will last a good while ... Also it takes both person to make a RL work or break up
@@irene2hansen241Using the word “muse” is intended to separate the art from it’s connections to real life people so it can be interpreted on its own merits, without the tabloid baggage (which people love to bring up with Taylor Swift’s music especially.) It’s not intended to minimize the relationship(s), and it seems a more appropriate way to discuss the art considering we don’t know these people.
She slips here and there. No problem. More with Joe I think. I don't know that it matters. The only way to keep track of the lyrics of this somewhat lyrically dense album is to know the muses. Obviously Taylor doesn't say names for legal reasons but also for her art Interesting comments below.
"you swore that you loved me, but where were the clues" actually gives me chills, because it reminds me of the bridge of Mastermind. It almost feels like Taylor has been so obsessed with little cryptic messages, that her fans expect from her, to the point that they have affected her personal life. She looks around waiting for a clue from her partner that she can decode, something to give her hope that the relationship isn't over, but the clue never comes.
"it was legendary, it was momentary, it was unecessary, should've let it stay buried" really hits me like a train, especially the way she sings "let it stay buried", chills.

in my boy only breaks his favorite toys when she says “but first, pull the string and ill tell you that he runs because he loves me” and then a doll voice repeats “he loves me” is INSANE to me bc thats such a genius way of representing it, he was neglecting her and making her feel rejected but she kept finding ways of justifying that by repeating it to herself (and she also says before that “i know im just repeating myself”) which is incredibly sad.
A lyric parallel I just discovered this week that blew my mind is between Fortnight and Paper Rings. Paper Rings says “I want your dreary mondays” which becomes Fortnight’s “All my mornings are mondays stuck in an endless February” and that’s just devastating to me.
in so long london “and im just getting color back into my face, im just mad as hell cause i loved this place” gives me chills every time and it felt very targeted
I literally gasped aloud at so many lines on my first TTPD listen! "My white knuckle dying grip Holding tight to your quiet resentment" is one of my favorites. It reminds me of a quote that I saw years ago that really resonates with me: "Everything I've ever let go of has claw marks on it" Thank you so much for all your work, Ally!
the fact that Taylor can come up with Easter eggs so quickly (Like the Story of us book) amazes me, people talk about how genius her lyrics are but she needs more recognition for constantly linking her new music back to her roots and acknowledging the history of her music.
true, agreed. but the US written on the book is more likely an Easter egg for her new song with Gracie Abrams called Us. she speaks about it briefly in that behind the scenes video of the music video. it's probably an easy egg for both though, I mean, it can be for both if we want. especially bcuz the music video for story of us has papers flying around, right?
I think it’s likely a reference to her collaboration with Gracie Abrams us. but she knew we would take it as a reference to the Story of Us, so it’s likely both but with the intent of dipping us into believing it was one thing but it’s actually the other
" If long suffering propriety is what they want from me , they don't know how you've haunted me so stunningly" just the equally most romantic and melancholic line ever written.
"who's gonna stop us from waltzing back into rekindled flames if we know the steps anyway" in loml hits so close to home for me and I just adore the imagery of 2 lovers slow dancing together
“I’m lonely but I’m good, I’m bitter but I swear I’m fine, I’ll save all my romanticisms for my inner life” - what a perfect way to describe coping with feeling lonely. My inner monologue can relate to
Oh no! That was mine and I was about to say it’s grossly underrated. So glad someone else was as moved by that as me. It spoke to my soul with how I’ve been feeling with some in law drama. Like I have nothing more to give and that ink pen line hit me hard.
“Dancing phantoms on the terrace, are they secondhand embarrassed that I can’t get out of bed, cause something counterfeit’s dead?” Crushed me so beautifully. I love how Taylor strings words together. As a writer, I would love to pick Taylor’s brain.
She used the "counterfeit" before, in Glitch: I think there's been a glitch Five seconds later, I'm fastening myself to you with a stitch And I'm not even sorry Nights are so starry, blood moonlit It must be counterfeit I think there's been a glitch
I find that line especially interesting because there's pretty famous photos out there of the (Harkness) ballerinas practicing on the terrace of Holiday House
"I'll tell you something right now I'd rather burn my whole life down Than listen to one more second of all this bitching and moaning" THAT gives me such a rush anytime it comes up! She's said things like this before, but not with this vibe... I love that she is getting bolder if that is even possible, and that just gives me the courage of doing it too! Loving the video ally!
‘She thought about how he said, since she was so wise beyond her years, everything had been above board… she wasn’t sure’💔 this line from the Manuscript just absolutely breaks me every time, for personal reasons. I think it’s such a difficult thing to think back to a time when someone was taking advantage of you, because it takes years to even accept that you were a victim in the situation, and even then you doubt how much of it was your own doing. Such a powerful lyric xx
"Looking backwards might be the only way to move forward" Let me tell you...through this album, I finally felt like I could lay to rest some old demons and "what ifs" This album took me down memory lane in my own life and it felt like some pieces fell into place It amazes me Taylor's ability to create songs that can resonate so personally when I know we're two completely different people with different experiences! Thank you so much for your deep dive!!
“Don’t want money, just someone who wants my company, let it once be me” The Prophecy is one of my favorite songs on this album, but also one that I struggle to listen to without crying. As a 20 year old hopeless romantic who has never been in a relationship, I feel this song so deeply. Love you Ally!! 🤍
i can do it with a broken heart is definitely “he said he’d love me all his life” with that hyperventilating sounding singing with the upbeat sparkly sounding music in the background
"i hate it here so i will go to secret gardens in my mind" this song hit me so personally and devastatingly especially with the mention of "precocious child" and that being the start of this coping mechanism of detaching yourself from the now and going places in your head that you would much rather be. her mashup of this with the lakes (probably my other top favorite song) was a deeply personal blow
I love that song so much, and I think it has so many layers. Not just her retreating into a place inside her mind that no one can access, but the fact that she does it in worst of times. I love that song cause for me too, it’s so personal. There’s these lines in Glück’s poetry - “No sadness is greater than in misery to rehearse memories of joy”. With Taylor writing about secret gardens only she has the key to, and lunar valleys with only the gentle people living in it and her thinking about it on the night she thought might die. I had chills while listening to it.
“My white knuckle dying grip. Holding tight to your quiet resentment…” is a line that drills into my soul. It hits so hard as a person who has had a lot of friends and partners who just would shut down if they didn’t like something or were upset by something. Trying to get that information out of them is like torture.
The line that just knocked the wind out of me the first time I heard it is "You didn't measure up to any measure of a man." What a lasting and devastating indictment. WOW! my jaw dropped.
I read it like the woman's rage at its peak made of desperation because she's really hurting. Trying to inflict the similar pain onto him, feel as humiliated as she feels, but also just make him feel anything, stay connected through that pain
"It was legendary, it was momentary, it was unecessary, should've let it stay buried" From loml with the paralel from the 1: " In my defense i have none, for digging up the grave another time". From dreaming about "the one that got away" who had the potential of being the love of your life to just being crushed with the hard reality of this person that should've stayed in the past. It just breaks my heart💔
My favorite lyric is “I’ll build you a fort on some planet where they can all understand it”. She faced so much judgement from the public when associating with this muse, she would’ve built him a fort (an album/songs) so that we could understand her feelings about this person. So that we could see the side that she did, the side of him that made her fall in love. Knowing her she would’ve made us love him too from her writing. It just breaks my heart for her, she would’ve done anything to get the world to see him as she did 💔

i absolutely love “i was tame i was gentle till the circus life made me mean don’t you worry folks we took out all her teeth” there are just so many different ways it could be taken as and it’s a line i always feel the need to scream from my chest when i hear it 🫶🫶🫶 ilysm ally
i think that my favorite lyric is "i hate it here so i will go to secret gardens in my mind" because thats SO relatable, it literally summarizes those times when you just dont feel comfortable with your current situation (whether its related to feelings, personality, experiences, job or whatever) and you also dont really has the courage or strenght to change it, you just want to relax a bit and feel happy and in peace, and thats just me all the time
My favorite lyric/line from this new album is FOR SURE: 'How the death rattle breathing.' Something about having heard death rattle breathing and now hearing it in the context of this song absolutly broke me and will continue to break me every time I listen to How Did It End?
My favorite lyric from ttpd is "I would've died for your sins, instead I just died inside" from tsmwel basically the whole bridge. the first time I heard this lyric, I knew it was the best bridge to ever exist. It has so much emotion and beautiful lyricism. (Also, I would love the anthology deep dive would be amazing)
Oh, what a valiant roar What a bland goodbye The coward claimed he was a lion I'm combing through the braids of lies "I'll never leave" ... "Never mind" Our field of dreams, engulfed in fire Your arson's match your somber eyes And I'll still see it until I die You're the loss of my life
My favourite lyric is probably "if you wanted me dead you should've just said". This lyric is speaking to me in such a way that basically my past year felt like this and so I love it so much 🤍
my favourite lyrics from the album overall are from "I hate it here" but my favourite line from that song is "ill save all my romanticism for my inner life and get lost on purpose" the whole song is just so relatable and so underrated
"cause love's never lost when perspective is earned" - peter i mean need i say more, this lyric made me happy sob. its like every mistep leds to SOMETHING better, and its showing shes still learning by experience and shes had a better outcome due to previous relationships (trav trav) i mean if we want a second one : "i changed into goddesses, villains, and fools, changed plans and lovers and outfits and rules" - COSOSOM she literally apated her ENTIRE life in a way to mask her emotions. i literally love ALL of chloe or same or sophia or marcus.
My favorite lyric is most definitely “looking backwards might be the only way to move forward” if that doesn’t sum up Taylor’s entire discography, career, moral compass, everything she’s ever done, idk what does. And I can’t help but feel like she’s moving past that philosophy and realizing that sometimes ruminating on the past is not the way the move forward, or that she’s done that enough to really finally heal and let go of it all now. Very healing!!
In Clara bow "You look like Taylor Swift in this light we're loving it you've got edge she never did" because my great grandma passed recently and everyone says that we acted and looked simliar!!
My favorite and it’s so sad, I want to cry every time is in my boy only breaks his favorite toys. “Just say when and I’ll play again ,he was my best friend “and right after that “ i felt more playing pretend than with all the kens.” She still loves him. 😢
“I cry a lot but I am so productive, it’s an art” it just represents my day to day corporate girly life😭 and also how we as humans can’t catch a break sometimes and we have to do all these things even if we are heartbroken, be that by a relationship a friendship or anything else, such a an amazing song 😭
Florida, as an American, I regularly hear/see it as a few places: 1) that "old people" go for retirement 2) criminals go to because it's easy to get out of the country, escape gov and get to places in the Caribbean. Especially if they have external banks and assets. 3) Florida Man incidents 4) More recently, Questionable Government oversight/overstepping
My favorite lyric is probably “are they second hand embarrassed that I can’t get out of bed cause something counterfeit is dead” it just is so sad and I love it 😢
“Say it once again with feeling, how the death rattle breathing silenced as the soul was leaving, the deflation of our dreaming” is AMAZING of lyrics and the whole bridge of How Did it End? ❤
This might be a bit long but one of the things I like most about TTPD and the title itself is that it invites this idea of sophistication of her poetry and she allows us to think that in the first song but then by the second song of the album (the title track no less) she’s like no, nuh uh. She’s making fun of the whole concept itself. But then she continues to bare her soul out throughout the album, showing us she’s tortured but also having told us that she’s not a poet. And then this takes a full 180 with The Anthology because those ARE the most poetic, and crafted songs ever. So she just spun us around our heels with that. Probably my favourite thing about TTPD and the fact that that was specifically the title of the album.
100% agree. The whole album is against pretentiousness and romanticism. Whether it's poking fun at herself and her relationship in the title track, pointing out the audacity of the media or the fans presuming to know what's best for her based on gossip, or the dangers of romanticizing reality of the past. In any case, the album points out the problems with taking things too seriously and ignoring the simple truths of reality. Like, ignoring red flags in relationships for some imagined future, or fans ignoring the fact that celebrities are strangers that owe you nothing. I could go on and on but it's a background theme of the whole album. I love that she is in a phase where she is finally recognizing that simplicity and grounding yourself in reality is often the key to true happiness. The overly romantic tortured poet trope that she was so drawn to for years is a ride straight to misery. That's why her happiest tracks are about not overthinking things and enjoying simple joys of love.
Another interesting layer to her using “soliloquies” in But Daddy is when you think about the context of monologue vs soliloquy in plays (specifically Shakespeare). Monologues are long chunks of text the character speaks on stage around/to other characters. Soliloquies are longer chunks of text the character speaks to themself OR to the audience, and specifically not directly to other characters on stage. In other words, it’s their inner thoughts and a revealing of their true intentions… I think about how that would translate to modern day use of social media and people going on rants to their “audience”. And Taylor is saying “I’ll never see your tik tok or IG reel of you complaining about my relationships and I don’t care”.
“Little did you know your home’s really only the town you’ll get arrested“ takes me back to London Boy where she said, “They say home is where the heart is, But that's not where mine lives”. Makes me think that home to her was possibly this muse, but ultimately that being with this muse felt like imprisonment (being arrested), which equates to a lack of freedom and space.
First of all, _thank you Ally_ for the incredibly deep two-part dive into the latest Taylor’s masterpiece. As always, your profound insights make _my trip to Taylor’s shores_ much easier 🌺 Second of all, _thank you Ally_ for the opportunity to enter a giveaway. Whether I’m gonna torture my heart or gonna paralyze my mind overthinking, _I haven’t decided yet, but I’m gonna_ do it anyway. Since we are allowed to choose the lyrics from the standard edition of THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT, I’ll stick with the following one from But Daddy I Love Him: _Growin’ up precocious sometimes means // Not growin’ up at all._ It’s no secret that the overall narrative of growing up gifted runs like a red thread through the whole double album, and, to my surprise, this resonates with me… but from a slightly different angle. Taylor refers to her younger version as ‘precocious’, meaning she developed an interest in music and songwriting early in life. As for myself, I would never consider _little old me_ a prematurely developed child, but I’ve always been all too familiar with fragility, loneliness, isolation, and escapism - the things that gifted people experienced too, the things that make you frozen, completely paralyzed, and eventually prevent you from growing up. As we know, Taylor is _a real tough kid, she did handle it._ As for me, I’m only learning to live with all of this but I still have _a way to go, higher and higher, wilder and lighter, for me._ That’s all I have to share. _I love you Ally, you’re enhancing my Swiftie’s life_ ❤❤❤ My IG: @lisaboronney (come and say hi 👋)
LOVED this breakdown of the album! One of my favourite lyrics is “Feeling like the very last drops of an ink pen, a greater woman stays cool, but i howl like a wolf at the moon” i’m a the prophecy girlie 🥹
„I tell you something bout my good name, it’s mine alone to disgrace“ is just such an iconic way of telling fans and/or the media to shut up. I love to scream it❤️
Not sure if anyone has mentioned this yet, but on TikTok, a classical composer named Steve Hackman did a great react video where he isolated the two parts of the counterpoint at the very beginning of So Long London. The lower part of the counterpoint? It's Tolerate It. Totally blew my mind, and establishes an undeniable connection between those two songs. I've been thinking about it ever since. It's worth watching. I love TTPD for a lot of reasons, but one of them is how radically TTPD has shifted my understanding of the songs on TS's last several albums. It's like we thought we knew what she was saying... but we didn't at all, and the puzzle pieces are starting to fall into place with TTPD. Favorite TTPD lyric? Impossible to choose, but maybe this because it's just so painfully sad. Our field of dreams, engulfed in fire Your arson's match your somber eyes And I'll still see it until I die You're the loss of my life
The line he saw forever so he smashed it up absolutely rips me apart every time I listen to that song. Like imagine the pain of having to go through that
Something I noticed on so long London was she said Stitches undone. Like in glitch where she says I fasten myself to you with a STITCH. What a great call back
hii ally thank you so much for this! i just need an anthology deep dive cause my absolute favorite lyric is from COSOSOM and is "could it be enough to just float in your orbit can we watch our phantoms like watching wild horses" i think it's just so beautifully poetic. Sending love from Italy!
my favorite lyrics (are from The Anthology lol) "your hologram stumbled into my apartment, hands in the hair of somebody in darkness, named Chloe, or Sam, or Sophia, or Marcus and I just watched it happen." This whole song is just perfect to me honestly, and definitely my favorite from The Anthology portion.
I think "But the woman who sits by the window has turned out the light" has got to be my favorite lyric because it manages to capture the feeling of moving on with a simple gesture and that's what I like from a song, something very visual that has hidden layers that require reflection and leaves you with a deeper understanding of themes of the song once you really sit down and think about it
My favourite lyric is “I cry a lot but I am so productive” because I relate to it so much. Dealing with crippling anxiety and having to put myself together or suppress breakdowns so that I can get my work done has happened more than once. I’m really proud to have not let my anxiety take control of me, and that I’ve learnt to deal with my feelings. Thank you for the deep dive, Ally! 🤍🤍
The line that speaks the most to me is ‘I’m pissed off you let me give you all that youth for free’ Ps I love you ❤️❤️ love from the UK Pps I was named after the fleetwood mac song rhiannon ❤️
That one stings so bad. I’m in a 6 year relationship and if I broke up now I would be devistated because of the youth I would lose on the relationship but I wanted to kinda have a family by 30. If we broke up now, I would have to rush the next relationship because of my bilogical clock ticking and well my own expectations ticking
"and I'll forget you but I'll never forgive, the smallest man who ever lived." genuinely silences me every time I listen to it. as someone who had one of the worst senior years of high school, the motif that no, you do not actually have to forgive someone to move on stood out to me. once you go through a tough trauma either through family, religion, or a relationship, we are often taught to forgive and forget. this can make us want to force emotions such as forgiveness and kindness no matter what wrongdoing they have done to us. this line is such a good reminder that even though, especially as a woman, you never forgive someone, you can still be yourself and heal. this past winter, I hit the hardest rock bottom that I have ever felt. I found unhealthy coping mechanisms, and often masked what I was going through for either the comfort of others or myself. it felt so much easier to just pretend that I forgave the people who put me here. I had always been fed that I could only TRULY move on once I found "forgiveness" in my heart. this is SO untrue. months later, I still have my bad days, but they are more manageable. how? I did not forgive. I felt all of my emotions in their true form unabashedly. back to the song- I loved that she mentioned that he is so insignificant to her, so unforgivable, that she will NEVER forgive him... but she forgets about him due to this. she moved on, found her peace. but trust her... that peace did not come from him. she had to make her own peace. and that is what is so beautiful and haunting about this line. if you read this far thank you and you are worth it ♥♥
Some lyrics that completely caught me off guard on TTPD are from one of my top 3 songs, Clara Bow. “You look like Stevie Nicks in ‘75, the hair and lips / Crowd goes wild at her fingertips / Half moon shine, a full eclipse.” I remember listening to the album, the moment it came out, and when I reached Clara Bow and heard the Stevie Nicks line, I was in disbelief of how Taylor brought Stevie into her catalog. I will see them both within one week, on the 16th and 19th of July, and really felt a full circle moment. Stevie, like Taylor, is really such a comfort to me, and I view her music as tiny manifestations of 70s/80s/90s nostalgia in my life. But if I had to choose the lines that resonate with me the most, it would be the end of the song: “You look like Taylor Swift in this light, we’re loving it / You’ve got edge, she never did / The future’s bright, dazzling” I recall how I sat in my bed, crying when I heard her say that, as originally, before reading into the lyrics, it felt like Taylor speaking to me, the listener, and how there are so many young women after her who celebrate her legacy, and while she did never have edge, every one of those girls brings something different “to the table”, making them unique. However, now I know better about her intention with the song, but I like to think of the song that way sometimes. As a celebration of female accomplishments. Thank you for you time and effort, your videos feel like home to me. ig: callhercarla 🤍
Hi Ally!! my lyric (so hard to pick just one) is, "Beauty is a beast that roars, down on all fours, demanding more" for SO many reasons. Like how flipping true is that. Clara Bow was one of my surprise songs in Dublin and Stevie Nicks was at that show!! The Rumours vinyl is on my list to get and we recently replaced our broken record player so it would get played soooo much in our house. Side note, I defo would have put that line on my MSN back in the day to seem deep or mysterious lol. Your content is amazing, the editing is top tier and without fail you always make me think, discover new things, laugh and feel seen every single time I watch! PS I hope my entry still counts but I deleted my Instagram, I have an account I made for our dog (lol) which I've followed you on!!
My fave line is "what if he's written mine on my upper thigh only in my mind," I mean best line ever?! And my other fave is "Down Bad Crying at The Gym," that's just the most relatable thing I have ever heard and just the entire Down Bad just scratches my brain in the right way. Omg how does Taylor came up with it all 😱🫶
i love in peter when she says "tell me all that you'd learned, because love's never lost when perspective is earned" !!! that entire bridge is so devastating to me because she wanted to be with him so badly and he left to "find perspective" but didn't come back, and so she was heartbroken :( taylor is really a lyrical genius
"I'm just mad as hell cause I loved this place for so long, London." Just the agony in her voice, it resonates with my own sadness of losing beloved places and relationships. That song is my favorite on the album.
"the goddess of timing once found us beguiling, she said she was trying, peter was she lying? my ribs get the feeling she did" really stuck with me (especially since i got peter as a surprise song!!) the whole song is so poetic and sonically beautiful
„We were blind to unforeseen circumstances, we learned the right steps to different dances and fell victim to interlopers' glances… Lost the game of chance, what are the chances?“ This truly gets to me everytime, because it reflects on the randomness and unpredictability of love. Despite all efforts, things did not turn out the way you hoped they would. Love how Taylor paints such beautiful and heartbreaking pictures with her words. ❤️🩹
Thanks again for the new video, the song that gets me the most is "The Prphecy", the best line being "Spending my last coin so someone will tell me It'll be ok"
Its so hard to choose one lyric.. "Are they second hand embarrassed that I can't get out of bed cause something counterfeit is dead" is one of my favourite lyric ever.
My status would have been “And at last, she knew what the agony had been for.” It pretty much sums up my current process of digesting a past relationship that ended almost four years ago. Many years of agony resulted in the much stronger person I am now, setting my own boundaries 😊 and Taylor's music has helped so much to arrive at this point.
i think that my favorite lyric is "who's gonna stop us from waltzing back into rekindled flames if we know the steps anyway" Thank you for taking the time to put this together! ❤
The lyric I love the most is "If the glint in my eye traced the depths of your sigh down that passage in time back to the moment I crashed into you like so many wrecks do too impaired by my youth to know what to do". Also I love this video, Ally 🤍
“Rivulets descend my plastic smile” i think is a great lyric. I love the imagery of keeping your face perfectly pleasant, but the tears just bore down til you’re left with a permanent deformity. I swear im not traumatized 😂
The rest is: "but don't you worry folks they took out all her teeth"......with what you wrote, and this above, sums up how I felt 11 years ago when I was ruthlessly attacked and had my life nearly destroyed by complete strangers who to this day pride themselves on being oh-so compassionate and empathetic even though they are petty, and mean fakes and pretenders. It took years, but I'm finally back and ready to go forward again older, and hopefully wiser.
Actually "I keep recalling things we never did" is the lyric/imagery I love the most on this album, because it captures so well how you make up scenarios in your head with the people you secretly (or not so secretly :) ) love. I've definetely been there.
“I’m just getting color back into my face, I’m just mad as hell cause I loved this place”…this lyric (and all of So Long, London) hurts so good. the way she conveys the Cornelia Street-esque feeling of not being able to be in a place you love so much after sharing it with someone who broke your heart is so relatable.
I mean taking a favourite lyric out of 31 songs is insane but the one that always pops up in my head is “ my beloved ghost in the sitting in a tree, D Y I N G” I really can’t explain why I love this lyric so much but it just hits every time I listen to how did it end…
"Just to do experiments on Tell me I was the chosen one" It's so beautifully said that she is being used, but he made her feel special because out of all the animals, he picked her
as somebody who lives like 30 minutes from Destin and I have worked in Destin for 2 years, AND as somebody who has been to Seaside a couple times, they are nothing alike 😭 Destin is like.....wannabe Seaside 😅 Seaside is very much a picturesque seaside beach town, with lots of whimsical shops and restaurants, there are huge beach town mansions and country clubs and it seems like everyone who lives there is rich....but Destin....some areas are really nice! the beaches are some of the most beautiful beaches I have ever seen in my opinion. the people who actually live in Destin are all wealthy, you'd have to be with how expensive it is to live there, but as soon as you go one street over away from the scenic road that goes along the beach, it looks like everywhere else in FL 😅 kinda rundown, with fast food establishment signs as far down the street as you can see, there are homeless people, drug addicts, and panhandlers dotting every corner (which is NOT a dig at people who are less fortunate or struggle with a disease such as addiction, it's a dig more at the juxtaposition that it's a vacation destination and tons of rich people live there, yet there are people without homes) I also wanted to comment on the "Florida Man" stereotype that Florida has 😅 this is actually because FL has something called Sunshine Laws, meaning all court records and etc are public record, therefore everybody has the freedom to know the details of court cases and etc. if they want to, therefore of course more crazy stories are going to be known about FL because they information is publicly available 😅
I am SO excited to finally dive into this album with you all! Cannot wait to chat in the comments, and don't forget to enter the giveaway!

“Is it a wonder I broke? Let's hear one more joke, Then we could all just laugh until I cry”, is absolutely THE most devastating lyric ever written. As person who’s always been told that I’m sensitive and cant a joke that line still haunts me
ME TOO
oof yep I feel that
Ugh, I feel ya.
Can we appreciate how Ally never called Joe or Matty or Travis by their names? She called them muses. and i think that i really appreciated that
She did say their names?
Obviously Taylor doesn't say names for legal reasons but also for her art
Interesting comments below.
RL?
“we learned the right steps to different dances” absolutely broke my heart
I really like the line “a greater woman wouldn’t beg but I look to the sky said said please”
I don’t want to enter the giveaway i just wanted to say my fav line 😊
OMG SAMEEE
"you swore that you loved me, but where were the clues" actually gives me chills, because it reminds me of the bridge of Mastermind. It almost feels like Taylor has been so obsessed with little cryptic messages, that her fans expect from her, to the point that they have affected her personal life. She looks around waiting for a clue from her partner that she can decode, something to give her hope that the relationship isn't over, but the clue never comes.
WOAH
I think she’s just saying he said he loved her but never showed her. Never made an effort. Words mean nothing if there is no action behind it
@@whitneyhendrix8075 that too!
Love this!
Omg yes so long London is my favorite song in this album!!
"it was legendary, it was momentary, it was unecessary, should've let it stay buried" really hits me like a train, especially the way she sings "let it stay buried", chills.
Same 😢
No I really like the second line: “oh what a valuent raw, what a bland goodbye, the coward claimed he was a lion.”
Reminds me of when I went back to a relationship I should not have returned to. Very real.
“In my defense I had none… for digging up the grave another time…”

in my boy only breaks his favorite toys when she says “but first, pull the string and ill tell you that he runs because he loves me” and then a doll voice repeats “he loves me” is INSANE to me bc thats such a genius way of representing it, he was neglecting her and making her feel rejected but she kept finding ways of justifying that by repeating it to herself (and she also says before that “i know im just repeating myself”) which is incredibly sad.
A lyric parallel I just discovered this week that blew my mind is between Fortnight and Paper Rings. Paper Rings says “I want your dreary mondays” which becomes Fortnight’s “All my mornings are mondays stuck in an endless February” and that’s just devastating to me.
Spotify said we can leave the christmas lights up till.... February
SOMEONE BODY FCKING SAID I HAVE BEEN THINKING ABOUT THIS CONNECTION SINCE THE FIRST TIME I HEARD FORTNIGHT
She quite literally ate her words in that relationship and that is so fucking sad to realize
in so long london “and im just getting color back into my face, im just mad as hell cause i loved this place” gives me chills every time and it felt very targeted
I'm just getting color back in my face, I'm mad as hell cuz I loved this place
"My beloved ghost and me sitting in a tree D-I-Y-N-G." Such a sad sentence. It gets me every time
me too
Then she goes and sings it Live and I will Never recover 😭💔
"You sacrificed us to the gods of your bluest days" is my favourite lyric. The way she sings it makes me tear up every single time!
I literally gasped aloud at so many lines on my first TTPD listen! "My white knuckle dying grip Holding tight to your quiet resentment" is one of my favorites. It reminds me of a quote that I saw years ago that really resonates with me: "Everything I've ever let go of has claw marks on it"
Thank you so much for all your work, Ally!
In summation: ‘And in one conversation I tore down the whole sky’. Tolerate it: ‘I made you my temple, my mural, my sky’ 8:27
Even statues crumble if their made to wait
the fact that Taylor can come up with Easter eggs so quickly (Like the Story of us book) amazes me, people talk about how genius her lyrics are but she needs more recognition for constantly linking her new music back to her roots and acknowledging the history of her music.
true, agreed. but the US written on the book is more likely an Easter egg for her new song with Gracie Abrams called Us. she speaks about it briefly in that behind the scenes video of the music video.
it's probably an easy egg for both though, I mean, it can be for both if we want. especially bcuz the music video for story of us has papers flying around, right?
I think the Easter egg of Us was referencing her song with Gracie Abrams (or it could be both meanings, also possible)
"hoe" lmao
I choose you and me..... Religiously

"who's gonna stop us from waltzing back into rekindled flames if we know the steps anyway" in loml hits so close to home for me and I just adore the imagery of 2 lovers slow dancing together
Ohh and the way she singsss it! Yess that ones amazing too!
“I’m lonely but I’m good, I’m bitter but I swear I’m fine, I’ll save all my romanticisms for my inner life” - what a perfect way to describe coping with feeling lonely. My inner monologue can relate to
my fav lyric has to be: “And I sound like an infant feeling like the very last drops of an ink pen” bc it’s sounds as amazing as it means
Oh no! That was mine and I was about to say it’s grossly underrated. So glad someone else was as moved by that as me. It spoke to my soul with how I’ve been feeling with some in law drama. Like I have nothing more to give and that ink pen line hit me hard.
Man yes! I can’t believe I forgot about it but damn that one is soo good!
can someone explain this one? i love how it sounds, but since english is not my first language, i didnt understand the meaning very well :(
“Dancing phantoms on the terrace, are they secondhand embarrassed that I can’t get out of bed, cause something counterfeit’s dead?” Crushed me so beautifully. I love how Taylor strings words together. As a writer, I would love to pick Taylor’s brain.
I'm still getting over a year long situationship that ended at Xmas, and that line gets me literally every time 💔
She used the "counterfeit" before, in Glitch:
I think there's been a glitch
Five seconds later, I'm fastening myself to you with a stitch
And I'm not even sorry
Nights are so starry, blood moonlit
It must be counterfeit
I think there's been a glitch
My favorite lyric in the entire album. Love it!
I find that line especially interesting because there's pretty famous photos out there of the (Harkness) ballerinas practicing on the terrace of Holiday House
I've never been in a relationship but loml destroyed me. I cried the whole time, that's my favorite lyric too.

AN HOUR AND A HALF OF ALLY X THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT?!?! we are being FED!!! thank you ally!!!
"I'll tell you something right now
I'd rather burn my whole life down
Than listen to one more second of all this bitching and moaning"
THAT gives me such a rush anytime it comes up!
"Looking backwards might be the only way to move forward"
Let me tell you...through this album, I finally felt like I could lay to rest some old demons and "what ifs"
This album took me down memory lane in my own life and it felt like some pieces fell into place
It amazes me Taylor's ability to create songs that can resonate so personally when I know we're two completely different people with different experiences!
Hard agree.
Calling her voice in that part “hyperventilating” just hurt me 🥲
"i hate it here so i will go to secret gardens in my mind" this song hit me so personally and devastatingly especially with the mention of "precocious child" and that being the start of this coping mechanism of detaching yourself from the now and going places in your head that you would much rather be. her mashup of this with the lakes (probably my other top favorite song) was a deeply personal blow
Same!!! I think if i heard this mashup i would’ve sobbed
“Is it a wonder I broke let’s hear one more joke” so sad, vulnerable and relatable. So beautiful ❤
“My white knuckle dying grip. Holding tight to your quiet resentment…” is a line that drills into my soul. It hits so hard as a person who has had a lot of friends and partners who just would shut down if they didn’t like something or were upset by something. Trying to get that information out of them is like torture.
This line is sooooooo Tolerate it coded! 😢😢😢
Uuuuu yesss! Damn theres so many. I keep reading comments and like can we just qoute the whole album?
The line that just knocked the wind out of me the first time I heard it is "You didn't measure up to any measure of a man." What a lasting and devastating indictment. WOW! my jaw dropped.
I read it like the woman's rage at its peak made of desperation because she's really hurting. Trying to inflict the similar pain onto him, feel as humiliated as she feels, but also just make him feel anything, stay connected through that pain
"It was legendary, it was momentary, it was unecessary, should've let it stay buried"
From loml with the paralel from the 1:
" In my defense i have none, for digging up the grave another time".
It just breaks my heart for her, she would’ve done anything to get the world to see him as she did 💔
Breaks my heart, too. I think by the end that she no longer saw him as she once had and that hurt her dearly.

i think that my favorite lyric is "i hate it here so i will go to secret gardens in my mind" because thats SO relatable, it literally summarizes those times when you just dont feel comfortable with your current situation (whether its related to feelings, personality, experiences, job or whatever) and you also dont really has the courage or strenght to change it, you just want to relax a bit and feel happy and in peace, and thats just me all the time
My favorite lyric/line from this new album is FOR SURE: 'How the death rattle breathing.' Something about having heard death rattle breathing and now hearing it in the context of this song absolutly broke me and will continue to break me every time I listen to How Did It End?
My favorite lyric from ttpd is "I would've died for your sins, instead I just died inside" from tsmwel basically the whole bridge. the first time I heard this lyric, I knew it was the best bridge to ever exist. It has so much emotion and beautiful lyricism. (Also, I would love the anthology deep dive would be amazing)
"you said I abandoned the ship but I was going down with it" hits so personal that i don't know if it's my favorite lyric, but sure is on the top
Oh, what a valiant roar
What a bland goodbye
The coward claimed he was a lion
I'm combing through the braids of lies
"I'll never leave" ...
"Never mind"
Our field of dreams, engulfed in fire
Your arson's match your somber eyes
And I'll still see it until I die
You're the loss of my life
My favourite lyric is probably "if you wanted me dead you should've just said".
"cause love's never lost when perspective is earned" - peter
i mean need i say more, this lyric made me happy sob. its like every mistep leds to SOMETHING better, and its showing shes still learning by experience and shes had a better outcome due to previous relationships (trav trav)

I also love COSOSOM it seriously deserves more hype
this song is my favorite, it resonates so strongly
@@fRenChY_toAsTy LITERALLY! ITS MY FAVE ON THE ALBUM
Ohh yess! That one is soo good!
My favorite lyric is most definitely “looking backwards might be the only way to move forward”
if that doesn’t sum up Taylor’s entire discography, career, moral compass, everything she’s ever done, idk what does. And I can’t help but feel like she’s moving past that philosophy and realizing that sometimes ruminating on the past is not the way the move forward, or that she’s done that enough to really finally heal and let go of it all now. Very healing!!
amen!!

i am so glad to hear that! hope you feel better soon
Florida, as an American, I regularly hear/see it as a few places:
1) that "old people" go for retirement
2) criminals go to because it's easy to get out of the country, escape gov and get to places in the Caribbean. Especially if they have external banks and assets.
3) Florida Man incidents
4) More recently, Questionable Government oversight/overstepping
“He was a hothouse flower to my outdoorsmen” 💔
Thank you for taking the time to put this together! Love all your deep dives!
This line hit me incredibly hard on like the 4th listen. I was like "OHHH what a beautiful way to describe incompatibility"
As always, your profound insights make _my trip to Taylor’s shores_ much easier 🌺
Second of all, _thank you Ally_ for the opportunity to enter a giveaway.
As we know, Taylor is _a real tough kid, she did handle it._ As for me, I’m only learning to live with all of this but I still have _a way to go, higher and higher, wilder and lighter, for me._
That’s all I have to share. _I love you Ally, you’re enhancing my Swiftie’s life_ ❤❤❤

Our field of dreams, engulfed in fire
Your arson's match your somber eyes
And I'll still see it until I die
You're the loss of my life
The line he saw forever so he smashed it up absolutely rips me apart every time I listen to that song.
ANTHOLOGY DEEP DIVE IS A NEED! there is so much in the second half, it needs to be discussed
my favorite lyrics (are from The Anthology lol) "your hologram stumbled into my apartment, hands in the hair of somebody in darkness, named Chloe, or Sam, or Sophia, or Marcus and I just watched it happen."
This whole song is just perfect to me honestly, and definitely my favorite from The Anthology portion.
My favorite lyric right now is just the chorus of COSOM but the last lines of I Look In People’s Windows is so gorgeous it’s a very close second.
The line that speaks the most to me is ‘I’m pissed off you let me give you all that youth for free’
Ps I love you ❤️❤️ love from the UK
Pps I was named after the fleetwood mac song rhiannon ❤️
Love this line as well! And omg what a name origin 🤌🏻
Yes 🙌🏽! That line hits hard for me too!
“You look like Stevie Nicks in ‘75, the hair and lips / Crowd goes wild at her fingertips / Half moon shine, a full eclipse.”
I remember listening to the album, the moment it came out, and when I reached Clara Bow and heard the Stevie Nicks line, I was in disbelief of how Taylor brought Stevie into her catalog. I will see them both within one week, on the 16th and 19th of July, and really felt a full circle moment.
Stevie, like Taylor, is really such a comfort to me, and I view her music as tiny manifestations of 70s/80s/90s nostalgia in my life.
But if I had to choose the lines that resonate with me the most, it would be the end of the song:
“You look like Taylor Swift in this light, we’re loving it / You’ve got edge, she never did / The future’s bright, dazzling”
I recall how I sat in my bed, crying when I heard her say that, as originally, before reading into the lyrics, it felt like Taylor speaking to me, the listener, and how there are so many young women after her who celebrate her legacy, and while she did never have edge, every one of those girls brings something different “to the table”, making them unique. However, now I know better about her intention with the song, but I like to think of the song that way sometimes. As a celebration of female accomplishments.
Thank you for you time and effort, your videos feel like home to me.

Hi Ally!! my lyric (so hard to pick just one) is, "Beauty is a beast that roars, down on all fours, demanding more" for SO many reasons.
You rhyming - Think. Things. Feel. Seen. SINGle.
Love your middle paragraph!
My favorite lyric from the original album is “I’ll forget you but I’ll never forgive”
"the goddess of timing once found us beguiling, she said she was trying, peter was she lying? my ribs get the feeling she did" really stuck with me (especially since i got peter as a surprise song!!) the whole song is so poetic and sonically beautiful
„We were blind to unforeseen circumstances, we learned the right steps to different dances and fell victim to interlopers' glances… Lost the game of chance, what are the chances?“
This truly gets to me everytime, because it reflects on the randomness and unpredictability of love.
“I don’t cater to all these vipers dressed in empaths clothing” is just SO JAW DROPPING I love it
Yes!!
My status would have been “And at last, she knew what the agony had been for.” It pretty much sums up my current process of digesting a past relationship that ended almost four years ago. Many years of agony resulted in the much stronger person I am now, setting my own boundaries 😊 and Taylor's music has helped so much to arrive at this point.
i think that my favorite lyric is "who's gonna stop us from waltzing back into rekindled flames if we know the steps anyway"
Thank you for taking the time to put this together!
"I was tame, I was gentle, till the circus life made me mean" My old friend group changed me into who i am today.
You are the first person I’ve seen breakdown Fortnight in a way that fully grasps the lyrics and actually makes sense!!! Thank you!!!
"Just to do experiments on
Tell me I was the chosen one"
It's so beautifully said that she is being used, but he made her feel special because out of all the animals, he picked her
ally i love how much effort you put into these videos!!
thank you so much!!
as somebody who lives like 30 minutes from Destin and I have worked in Destin for 2 years, AND as somebody who has been to Seaside a couple times, they are nothing alike 😭 Destin is like.....wannabe Seaside 😅 Seaside is very much a picturesque seaside beach town, with lots of whimsical shops and restaurants, there are huge beach town mansions and country clubs and it seems like everyone who lives there is rich....but Destin....some areas are really nice! the beaches are some of the most beautiful beaches I have ever seen in my opinion. the people who actually live in Destin are all wealthy, you'd have to be with how expensive it is to live there, but as soon as you go one street over away from the scenic road that goes along the beach, it looks like everywhere else in FL 😅 kinda rundown, with fast food establishment signs as far down the street as you can see, there are homeless people, drug addicts, and panhandlers dotting every corner (which is NOT a dig at people who are less fortunate or struggle with a disease such as addiction, it's a dig more at the juxtaposition that it's a vacation destination and tons of rich people live there, yet there are people without homes)
I also wanted to comment on the "Florida Man" stereotype that Florida has 😅 this is actually because FL has something called Sunshine Laws, meaning all court records and etc are public record, therefore everybody has the freedom to know the details of court cases and etc. if they want to, therefore of course more crazy stories are going to be known about FL because they information is publicly available 😅
