  • Crossroads Park in Deshler, Ohio, is one of the best places to watch trains in the Midwest! It is not uncommon for 50 or more trains to traverse the Deshler diamond through this railroad interchange each day. In addition to the railpark, there is a Virtual Railfan webcam at this location.
The Deshler Diamond is the intersection of two CSX mainlines. The busier east-west double-track line is part of the Willard Subdivision to the east of the diamond, and the Garrett Subdivision to the west of the diamond. The north-south single-track line is part of the Toledo Subdivision.
While both rail lines that cross at the Deshler diamond are owned by CSX, several types of foreign power can often be seen at the diamond, such as BNSF 744, one of the remaining BNSF locomotives still proudly wearing the red and silver warbonnet colors from predecessor railroad Santa Fe.
This video was recorded in 4K using a DJI Mavic Pro drone, and the audio was recorded separately at ground level using a GoPro HERO Session. For more great railroad drone videos be sure to subscribe!

I love when your videos show us more than we could ever see with just the VRF cameras. I never knew there was a track transitioning from south to west, haven't seen it used either.

The south-west branch is not used as much as the south-east branch, but it's used more than the north-west branch.

@@DavidLauback I was confusing my terminology! I meant "going" from south to west. The one behind the old station is the one I had never seen, the one I think you are calling north-west. I don't think VRF can see it. So thanks for showing us. :) For me, Deshler is tied with HSC after Santa Fe. Keep 'em comin', David!

If that was a late afternoon shadow of the water tower, that was a northbound train waiting.

I went back to the videos I recorded that day to double check because I couldn't remember what direction that mixed freight on the north-south line was heading. The mixed freight seen waiting in the video actually came from the west and used the connector track to head south. Once it cleared the east-west mainline it came to a stop to wait for a signal to proceed south. If you look closely, you'll notice that the mixed freight is actually on the west-most of the two north-south tracks, meaning it's not on the right track to head north.

Already subscribed. Oh, to have had a drone for all the visits to Deshler. I note a track has been removed on the Cincinnati--Toledo line. The times they are a changing. No Warbonnets in my visits. Thanks.

When was the last time you were able to visit Deshler? I didn't know there was ever a second track on the north-south line.

Before 2007 for sure. I was harried and 500 miles from home on a three day weekend with too many stops as usual. The empty roadbed can be seen in the drone shot from over the southeast quadrant south of the yellow brick tower and southeast of the depot.

You're right. There was no second north-south track at Deshler. What I was thinking was a continuation of the double track at Leipsic, some miles to the south. My apology.
