Rusty Giant Tonka Bulldozer Restoration

- Hey everyone and welcome back to another restoration! It's been a while! In today's video I am restoring a this 1960's Tonka Giant Bulldozer. Back In December I purchased an ornament of this exact model. Looking at it on my tree I knew I needed to find a full sized one! I managed to snag this dozer off ebay. It was pretty complete minus the air filter and exhaust piper. The paint was mostly there but the sheet metal was pretty bent up and the spots that were rusty had some pretty deep pitting. The rear drive wheels also appeared to be off a different toy as this would have black plastic wheels all around.
I started by disassembling all the components. I sandblasted the metal and straightened out any bent pieces. Next I filled the pitting with JB weld. This stuff really seems to hold up under the heat of my oved and spreads easy. I sanded down the filler and gave it a nice thick coat of prismatic primer. I sanded that down again and sprayed on a coat of prismatic Hemi orange.
I cleaned up all the plastic parts and ordered the missing ones from gasoline alley toys. For the pistons, I stripped off the rust and original plating with a wire wheel, polished, and re nickel plated. I was pretty amazed with the way they came out. Finally I slapped it all back together, applied new rivets, and loaded it up on the truck to go out to its first construction site!
As always feel free to like, comment, and subscribe!

Another classic TONKA saved!!! Beautiful restoration. TONKA 💪
I love when people restore things. From Tonga trucks, watches, to Porsches
I may be wrong, but I think this is the least beat up item that you have restored!
Fantastic job!!! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻❤️❤️❤️
It was one of cleaner ones for sure!
Thanks. It reminds me of the good old days. I didn't know that there was a dozer with this type of spring cylinder. These toys were made to laaaaassssst for a long time ! Great job !
They had a couple different cylinder designs. Tonka had some great designers over the years
Thank you for saving this dozer. I wish I could have shown my dad this restoration- he was in excavation for over 50 years- started with an OC3-Oliver.
What a welcome back restoration. Yo, Joe👍!
Hard to believe now that we would play in the dirt with toys like this for hours at a time.
This one is in good condition compared some of the other ones I’ve seen. Nice job. 👍👍👍
Yeah, I usually look for rustier ones but I really wanted to restore a dozer for my lowboy and had this one on hand.
I must admit that is AWESOME! great restoration at all.
Very good job! 👍👍👍

Paint job on this one is almost excellent 🔥
Absolutely beautiful restoration! Love seeing your work and allowing these wonderful toys to have an extended life. Also, not to be discarded into the trash.
I try to save them all!
Wow! That is a beautiful dozier! Get the rest of the road crew now!
Nice Tonka, well done.👍

EXCELLENT JOB GUY...MY CONGRATULATIONS TOO...👏👏👏👏👏👏
Fabulous Joe, turned out stunning….well done….you take care from South Africa
I totally had one of those!!! Oh man! I forgot all about it until now. I was 4 or 5 years old. Great memories and VERY satisfying to see it come back to life. Thank YOU!! Now, as to what happened to it.... Ummm.... I was an idiot and forgot and left it behind at a park once. Went back with mom the next day and it was gone.
Seems like I've awoken some suppressed memories. I'll send you the bill for my restoration therapy!
@@joe_diy Haha! Fair enough.
Heck yeah, Joe's back with another great restoration, love the super clean look of a classic Tonka
Great restoration of a beautiful toy... .you are a master 🙌 👏 👌
AMAZING WORK, LOOKS BETTER THAN NEW.
Amazing joe
Beautiful restoration Joe.
I had one of the more modern bulldozers but I love the look of the classic one.
Brilliant my friend
Wonderful 👍👍
To be honest I found that annoying sound kind of satisfying knowing that this old toy is being brought back
What an awesome restoration on the bulldozer. The flatbed looks great also what a great carrier for the bulldozer. Love your channel and content keep up the awesome work. Always waiting for the next video. ❤🇨🇦
I liked it as is !

Enjoyed your video and so I gave it a Thumbs Up
Agreed!
Great looking dozer! Looks awesome on the lowboy!
Built the lowboy with a dozer in mind. Finally made it happen!
@@joe_diy I watched the lowboy video when you first put it out and was wondering what you might Restore to go with it. They both look great! Please keep the vids coming.
Always enjoy your videos. Keep iup the great work!
HE’S BACK
Amazing work!
Another great restoration and it looks fantastic… I must say though, i kind of prefer the way it was, a nice honest patina almost represented a real life machine of the same age?
It was a little on the nicer side but I had a hard time finding one in worse shape.
good job
Awesome!!!
If only you cold print out the box it would be brand new. Nice job
Nice work !
If only a CATERPILLAR ! Was this Easy ! To Pull APART ! INSTEAD ! of this ! TONKA !
I have a Doepke Cat D6 and I can already tell it will be a nightmare to pull apart. This one was easy
Makes you wonder how long it'll last especially with the powder coating.. 50, 80, 100+ years? Fantastic work!
В СССР кстати был подобный бульдозер который по дизайну стянули с этого 🤦🏿🤦♂️🤦🏼🤦🏼
Like from USSR
You need your Tonka truck crane to unload it off the flatbed ,don't want to hurt yourself lifting it🤣
groovy❤🇺🇸🐘
awesome it's been quite a while since you last made a video
Needed a break but I'm back!
Shouldn’t there be a Rubberized Plastic tip on end of the control leaver?
I used to have a few no paint I sold 2 one I made it with my sticker. A caterpillar yellow dozer the other was rougher made it John Deere yellow and green as I saw on then changed the the blade made my own cutting edge and planted it black for the blade that stayed in my office until last Christmas a friend son saw it and his dad bought it he 3 but used in in the house
Que paciencia por salvar estos hermosos juguetes 🤗 muy bien 🙆👍
❤❤🌺🌺🌸🌸
ficou otimo
