    In December 2021 the government gave all drivers the BE entitlement. This was to free up examiners for the lorry and bus driver shortages. So everyone who passes their B license (standard car license) will now be allowed to drive a vehicle up to 3.5 tonnes with a trailer weighing no more than 3.5 tonnes.
    Before the change in the law, you could drive 3.5 tonnes with a trailer weighing no more than 750kg. You could actually tow a heavier trailer if the MAM of the vehicle and trailer combined didn't exceed 3.5 tonnes. But this information is now redundant since the change in the law.

    Morning , great video again 😊. Regarding the 5% vehicle weights limits issue . I’m unsure if the 5% leeway stretches to camper vans but what I can 100% confirm is it does stretch to Luton vans whilst using the van for commercial use . I ran a furniture removal business for 18 years from 2003 to 2021 and have been pulled over a fair number of times throughout this period . On occasions I’ve misjudged how much the Luton van could carry and have been pulled over both over the 5% allowance and within the 5% allowance . Obviously I was fined a set amount of money for being over the limit (roughly weighing around 3850kg in a 3500kg van ) but when I was overweight but within the 5% allowance I was allowed to continue my journey with no fine . I appreciate I could have been made to unload the excess until I was 3500kg but I never was made to unload . To combat this issue I bought an onboard weighing system from red forge which was great . Since I sold the business I have converted one of my Luton vans into a camper but I’ve upplated to 4000kg to save any potential hassle with DVSA. I just thought I’d let you know my experiences because I don’t believe the allowance excludes Luton vans and doesn’t only relate to open back vehicles . As I previously mentioned maybe a Motorhome / camper van is different and maybe is classed as an enclosed van ? Anyway thanks for the video & keep up the good work 👍😊

      Cheers for the comment bud. I know it's not a hard 100% fact you'll be prosecuted but it's all down to the individual person that stops you and the attitude you give off when stopped.

    grandad rights is given to anyone who passed a car test before January 97
    The reason you can not find what trailer without the plus E is that every car driver has B+E now as of November 2021. You can not take a test in a B+E vehicle now and everyone who already had passed a car test between 97 and 2021 all get the B+E entitlement. But prior to November 21, anyone on a cat B could tow a unbraked trailer upto 750kgs behind any vehicle upto 3500kgs. So for example, they could drive a 3.5t Transit with a trailer that is PLATED upto 750kgs to give a MAM of 4250kgs. Also, you could also tow a larger and heavier trailer if the combined plated weights do not exceed 3500kgs and the trailer has to be a braked trailer. For example, a Vauxhall Zafira with a GVW weight of 2000kgs and a GTW of 3100kgs meaning the driver could tow a caravan plated at 1100kg as 3100kgs is less than 3500kgs. I used the Zafira as an example as that is what I ran for years before the Zafira decided to burn itself out on our drive way.
    Everyone with a car license will now have a B+E license. It may not show on their physical card, but it will show up on the DVLA site when the driver checks their license details on vehicles they can drive.
    Pre January 1997 licenses could go upto a combined weight of 8250kgs on their C1 license with a 7.5t Daf LF with a 750kgs trailer. Or heavier trailers with their C1E (107) with a Mercedes Sprinter plated at 4750kgs and a braked trailer upto 3500kgs plated weight. However, when I was still a driving instructor. I come across a lot of older drivers that believed they didnt had to worry about what weight trailer they pulled behind a 2.5t Landrover as they believed they could pull 5750kgs on their license which obviously aint true and definately not possible as any trailers that plated higher than 3500kgs must have air brakes and no car or van run on an air brake system so in reality, they could only drive upto 7000kgs on their B+E
    There is no upper weight limit on what you can tow on a B+E license as long as the towing vehicle can pull it legally. But the default is 7t.
    The 750kg weight limit for unbraked trailers still apply to everyone today, even class 1 drivers as that is the limit for an unbraked trailer.

      @Morticia McVan you welcome.
      I may have missed something out. I sort of got made redundant when the government decided to allow everyone who has a car license the +E in order to allow more space for HGV tests. I was a B+E instructor

    Hi Paul me old mucker! I gave up my HGV licence 20 years ago when I was 60, when you go over a certain age I don't know when, they remove the C1 off your car licence.
    My driving licence now has AM/A/B1/B/BE/f/k/l/n/p/q Regards from Ray the old sod from North Wales.

    Paul did you know you can drive up to 4.2 on a cat B if it's a alternative fueled vehicle (electric) are new electric tesco vans have a mam of 4.2 you have to do 5 hours training in house it's a government run thing to get more electric commercial vehicles on the road
