  • Van lifers find out the cost of a new engine for their luton camper van conversion (Citroen Relay)
It's a tough pill to swallow but it's something that we have to get on and do. But definitely the biggest cost so far doing vanlife in the UK #CitroenRelay #VanLifeUK
Here is a Food Bank organisation www.trusselltr...
A homeless charity that does work in Britain is Shelter, they have been going for a long time and a few quid might be enough to get someone off the streets during this cold spell we are having. Here is the link england.shelte...
There are a whole list of homeless charities in the UK here www.charitycho...
NEXT VIDEO WILL BE ON SUNDAY AT 9AM
We have been travelling full time in our luton camper van conversion for (and previously a Ford Transit), doing full time van life for almost two years in the UK.

Feeling so sad for you both. But Liam, I burst into tears when you thanked us for wanting to help you with donations and told us to give it to the homeless people. You are a wonderful couple. I, and I expect other viewers do feel as though we know you. I don't know what else to say. You are both truly good ,kind, selfless people. I hope you have a wonderful Christmas you really deserve it. Xx

Really sorry to hear the bad news, and think it is very noble of you to request donations to the homeless. I hope the repair goes well and doesn't take too long. This is too late for you but for anyone relying on their vehicle in the way van lifers do I would encourage them to learn a bit about the mechanics of vehicles and their maintenance, and read the handbook thoroughly. It is not difficult, if you can teach yourself video editing, etc, then it is no more difficult. In this case the key information would be to understand what the red oil pressure light means. If this comes on it means that the engine is no longer getting the oil which is needed and you must immediately pull over and turn off the engine to prevent serious damage. If not, without oil the moving parts will quickly overheat through friction and weld themselves together resulting in a seized engine.

    • @woodyw9798
      @woodyw9798 Год назад +12

Yes, one of the worst decisions car manufacturers made a long time ago now was to remove the oil pressure gauge. Oil warning lights are notoriously unreliable (in as much that they dont provide an indication of a small reduction in pressure which could be indicative of an imminent and catestrophic failure so that, often, by the time they come on, its almost too late! But... ignore them at your cost - literally. Kia kaha guys - it will get better - your amazing positivity and resilience guarantees that! Respect.

I'm a retired Social worker and I applaud that you two prefer that everyone donates to the homeless this Christmas. It's very selfless of you both to think of those less fortunate especially this time of the year. Given your present set of circumstances with Morgan it's even more impressive that you would opt for helping others first. You two keep me in touch with my lovely homeland as I tune in to your travels weekly. I have a very good feeling that you two will have some great luck coming your way. Who knows this could turn out to be one of your most memorable Christmas times ever. Love to both of you.

I love the fact that you want people to donate to homeless charities, instead of sending money to you. Just to say that, yes, I sent you a little, but I always support a homeless charity anyway, so giving to you was just a little token. A sign of appreciation for all that you share with us, and unity, having written off our caravan many years ago while we were in France. I remember the sick feeling not knowing how we were going to get home, or pay for anything. We overcame all the issues, and ended up absolutely fine, as I know you will too. Fingers crossed that a new, improved Morgan will be your best Christmas present ever!

@@hazellinajane no mine is a Wildax Cutie based on a DFSK Loadhopper. Cracking little van, I love it but I was ripped off big time, the MOT certificate gave no mention of brake issues but sadly they were all worn and the brake pipes rusty. The dealer was all smiles handing me the keys even though they knew I had a 12 hour drive from Scotland down to the South Coast. I took it into my mechanic for a service and he went nuts when he saw what was actually underneath. Then all this rust appeared as well, was a nightmare. I did go for them though, finally threatened them with the ombudsman and I did get some money out of them but not much. I was very naive, thought I’d be safe going to a dealer but nope. Pleased to report however my van is now going strong, I’ve been to Ireland, Spain, Portugal and a few UK weekend trips as well. I’d highly recommend anyone to pay a few dollars and get the AA or any trusted mechanic to go check out a potential van as it would save you so much trouble. The encouragement to Donate to Homeless is lovely.
I seldom get out of house now due to Health Issues but I was, able to get out often parked in same place and same Homeless man would be nearby.
I always stopped and spoke asked him what he wanted for meal, hot drink etc and would bring back when I returned and we would chat.
We have since moved but my husband was back to our usual parking and here was gentleman with his dog he was I was, worried about you as not seen for a while they had a good catch up it was freezing so husband took him and dog into dog friendly place for hot meal and made sure he had accommodation sorted.
The thing this gentleman said was how wonderful to be seen as a human the asking him what he would like rather than just presuming although any food appreciated... I think we do not know their stories and especially now with economic climate how close to having no home are we all.
My husband now rather than getting a coffee out will take his own and buy hot drink for someone who needs small acts can make a huge difference x

Great shout out to support the charities for the homeless. I am probably more your parents age and do remember a time when there was virtually no homelessness in the UK. Very sad state of affairs and a sad reflection on our modern society is that there are now more foodbanks than there are McDonalds. I always do what I can, especially this time of year. What I did this year was do a bank switch which they paid me £200 for. It was really simple and I now have those funds to help others. Please consider this if you are able. Regards. NO TO WAR

what you have to remember is, this is your home, you own it. whether that's brick and mortar or a van, there are costs are associated with home ownership. you just have to take it on the chin

You could buy another Citroen relay van just like yours, on ebay for half of what you were quoted for just the engine. You would then have all the parts you need. Always do your own research because garages will always try to rip you off if they sense that you have no mechanical knowledge.

I was a bit concerned when I saw subscribers offering you money, so this message has been a real relief, well done Liam that was a lovely gesture and hopefully some people will follow through on your suggestion. It's far too cold for van life at the moment, take some time out to digest all you've done this year and give Janine some time to pamper herself and recharge. Xx

@@shelleypeppard4694 Please don't patronise the people who offered to help. We are not victims, we are generous. I was happy to make a small donation to help. It is generous-spirited of Liam and Janine to think of those less well-off. But had they decided to accept our help that would not have meant they were "taking advantage". My donation would have been a small return for the hours of pleasure watching them travel.

The price being quoted is way over the top. Get additional quotes before you proceed.
A tie to another garage to get the work done may save you thousands, even if you have to pay for a week's stay at a hotel.

Your videos, and those of other van lifers, give immense pleasure to someone who has caravaned all over the UK and many parts of the continent for 40 years but no longer able to do so. keep up the good work, happy to support an appeal to help with costs, they always go over budget.

With an attitude like that, solutions will always appear and good people xx
I narrowboated solo for 3 years, then met my husband and did another 5 years, continously cruising. Then we lived in a Hymer Camp 64 for 4 years, my husband was a thatcher, so we travelled around, thatching in the UK.
In our 60's now, we live off grid in a donkey stable, up a mountain, in Portugal.
Money has always been a problem, but an exciting life lived is priceless and just like you guys, even the bad things give a story to look back on.
Hope you are all reunited for Christmas xx
