    Cut-Rate Commander - Episode 41 - Featuring Umbris, Fear Manifest
    The seals that kept Umbris contained have finally been broken (Thanks Torens) and this Horrific Nightmare is finally free to helm a deck filled with nightmares and horrors, aiming to gorge Umbris with cards from exile and turn him from the famished 1/1 he starts off as into a 21/21 + monstrosity.
    As one would expect, this build will be filled with the finest specimens of Horrors and Nightmares we can find to get us that sweet exile/mille effect from Umbirs as we play them in addition to their regular abilities, as well as various sources of more traditional exile to keep growing Umbris steadily. And while stead grow is nice, big explosive grow is much better, so we’ll be running a deadly combination of AOE mill and AOE Graveyard exile sources that, when working in conjunction, will take Umbris well into the double digits in a single turn. Then we just tack on some sources of Evasion for him to bypass our opponent’s blockers and screen him against removal with protection sources and spell disruption, and we’ll be tearing the fear out of our opponents in no time.
    Let me know if the comments below if you agree with my choices and/or what you would add to the deck instead. Also, let me know know who you would like to see next by voting on in the comments on the three choices of commander listed at the end of the video.

    I recently won Unbris as one of my mythics in a booster box I bought, recently started playing magic again after a long break and built my first commander deck around Umbris… some of the cards suggested I’m already using, but there was several I didn’t know about that are amazing, also the lands (I have rogues passage) and some artifacts can really help speed things up or help in other ways. Overall a really informative, useful video, one horror missed though which I’m using is Elder Brain has menace, is a 6/6 and it’s ability’s synergise so well with Umbris but overall excellent content. I hope you made one about Toxrill because I also won him from the same booster box and being a slug horror he went brilliantly with Umbris lol.

    Hey there! I'm still fairly new to mtg and commander and I recently stumbled upon your vids and have binge watched a bunch of them! They are great! Keep it up, man. I love your design philosophy and the way you explain the overall strategy and then go into each card. And the summary followed by sidegrades and upgrades part at the end is fantastic. Will likely end up building 2 or 3 decks from your guides over the coming months. Volo and Dina look way too fun. One question though, one of the commanders I'm eyeing up for my next build is for Veyran. I realize it's fairly popular and there are quite a few guides out there and I wouldn't expect you to make one for her... but would you happen to know of one from someone else that you like and would recommend? No worries at all if not. Just having a hard time finalizing what build to go with, am used to creature heavy stuff so far. Looking forward to future episodes. Cheers!

    I am hereby begging you to make a Tasha the Witch Queen budget commander deck. I have been trying to theory craft a list for her and I’m honestly stumped. I would imagine that the list would look similar to this but needs to incorporate a couple of other interactions. I find her play style very interesting. I’ve been considering a super friends list for her because I can’t think of any other way to keep her safe other than playing planeswalkers that require immediate attention. Including but not limited to Karn the great creator, Ashiok nightmare muse, Narset Parter of veils, tezzeret betrayer of flesh, etc. while also trying to incorporate some proliferate counter strategies.

    • @GrazzetMTG
      @GrazzetMTG  2 года назад +1

    • @tylersmith5449
      @tylersmith5449 2 года назад

      @@GrazzetMTG I would so very much appreciate that. I currently have most of the cards and have been theory crafting for awhile now. I have decided the best way to play her at least on paper, is a superfriends list with access to really powerful planeswalkers including, Ashiok Dream Render, Ashiok Nightmare Muse, Karn the Great Creator and Narset Parter of Veils. I may add a few more, with a handful of proliferate cards, The Chain Veil and the usual theft cards to accomplish our primary goals. Throw in some blue/black staples, a few mana rocks and I think it’ll be a solid deck for casual play.

    • @tylersmith5449
      @tylersmith5449 2 года назад

      Okay, scratch that… after further testing, forget the planeswalkers, forget proliferate… polymorph effects are literally insane in this. Jalira, Master Polymorphist, Mass Polymorph, Polymorph, Proteus Staff, Reweave and Synthetic Destiny. As long as you’re utilizing Tasha properly and spawning demons, you can take those demons and turn them into creatures. Assuming your creature line up consists of either smaller valuable ones or big explosive ones that are on theme with the strategy. For example, my list still needs tuning, but I am currently running…
      Dauthi Voidwalker
      Opposition Agent
      Thada Adel, Acquisitor
      Thief of Sanity
      Gonti Lord of Luxury
      Dazzling Sphinx
      Wrexial, the Risen Deep
      Diluvian Primordial
      All containing on theme powerful effects. With possible inclusions…
      Havengul Lich
      Sire of Stagnation
      Xanathar, Guild Kingpin
      Arvinox, the Mind Flail
      Brainstealer Dragon
      Elder Brain
      Mindleech Mass
      I also like this strategy because it can significantly reduce your creature count while maintaining access to these cards with less focus on reanimating from grave which would require more fine tuning to accomplish and frankly take more space than needed. It also has the potential to avoid summoning sickness for some of our creatures which is one of their biggest downsides. If you do get around to a Tasha list I’d love to hear your thoughts.

    Definitely something I would gladly test out once I can! Amazing video as always!
    As to my vote, well I think we can have a challenge of sorts... Alexander Clamilton, but only with black-bordered cards! Granted, it's not Innistrad related, but hey, Unfinity's around the corner, so being ahead of the curve can be quite nice.
    Day 185 of waiting for the GrazzetMTG face reveal. Say, do you have any plans for when Unfinity comes around?

    • @GrazzetMTG

      Regarding Unfinity, I'm definitely going to be making some builds for the commander (wacky or otherwise) were going to be getting in that set! Hopefully the pandemic dies down enough for it to be safe to do some drafts with the boxes I'll be getting but if not, I guess we just crack them for no value.

    I may be a bit late but I’m buying this deck for a friend (first commander deck) and I was wondering why there are no cards like Rite of Consumption and Essence Harvest as alternative win con for when you have a massive Umbris on the board? As a former LoR player it seemed natural! Thanks for the great channel! I already built 3 of your decks for beginners friends and for myself!
    Also isn’t the deck a bit light in creatures and protection for Umbris? Thanks

    • @GrazzetMTG
      @GrazzetMTG  2 года назад +1

      Glad to hear you've been enjoying the builds!
      Rite of Consumption and Essence Harvest certainly could find a hope in this build as Fling like effects to take even further advantage of Umbris's bulk and honestly I did not think to add them (there are so many cards that these didn't really come to mind). I can see them being a solid addition however if you can find space for them.
      Between the existing counters and protection, Umbris held up pretty well in testing, but if you find yourself needeing some additional defense - Blessing of Leeches and Soul Channeling would be good mana-less ways to keep him alive, as well as Tyrite Sanctum to eventually make him indestructible.
      Regarding creatures - sadly Horrors and Nightmares are chock full of bad ones - so we were more or less limited on our creature options from the get go. It didn't impact the build too much in testing however, since we have plenty of ways to make Umbris bigger through mill instead.

      It is quite fun to play and wasn't too oppressive with its exile gimmick during testing (except when facing graveyard focused builds, who hate it with a burning passion).
      I personally play and test all the builds a make video on and this one works pretty well overall. Since Umbris goes from 0 - 100 very quickly, there is often not enough time for our opponents to do anything once he gets into one-shotting range our of nowhere, but the tricky part is making sure you have enough cards in exile for the last remaining player to finish them off (since every opponent eliminated actively makes Umbris weaker as their cards in exile go away).
