    Hi John, it's good to see you again! (I just noticed I missed last week's video)
    It's cool to hear your thoughts about the ISO, when I saw Resolve Project feature in the annoucement I immediately thought of H2R logger ahah. :)
    Although the ISO will certainly speed up the post production process, I still think something like H2R logger is worth investigating, for generating "named markers" during a day of conference.
    We were just stating to create a H2R graphics/logger/Atem mini/OBS setup at work, for covering internal conferences, when Covid hit. So I still have to use it in practice, but know your efforts were not useless!
    As for future gigs, I predict we won't see big crowd events for some time, so I plan to do more "studio" like setups, integrating some kind of live feedback / interactions with a speaker, through screen with comments in front of the speaker, maybe having call-in features for questions "face to face", etc. In that context, maybe a slider would be useful to wake up the audience a bit?
    After months of Zoom/Teams meetings on cheap microphones, inducing "zoom fatigue" for many people, we, as media professionals, are more needed than ever to make web conferences interesting again. There may be more logistics to it, but it's doable!
    Take care :)

      Thanks for the comment and good point about markers. They have been a huge help for me when editing and re-editing gigs. I shall not let this stop me from pushing ahead with H2R Logger!

    Thanks for the great review and would definitely like to see how the possibility to swap the clips in resolve for a 4k version and still keep the current cuts. I assume in future fw release they will add the upstream and downstream Key to a seperat layer/track. At least a wish. Thanks again for informative videos and h2r graphics app ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

    Hi John! Thanks for the overview. Now that the price point has crept so high, I'd be really interested to see some comparison videos with the wider range of products the ATEM min Pro ISO competes with, such as the Roland V-1HD or even other more pro offerings from BMD. the ISO recording is really attractive, but still no dedicated 2nd HDMI out for simultaneous preview and program, no headphone jack or loop through options. I've been disappointed that they haven't iterated a little more on IO as they've released these new models. But I digress. when compared tho the rest of the ATEM Mini line, the Pro ISO seems like a logical next step, but for those of us that were introduced to video switching through the ATEM mini line, what else is out there that we are missing? Cheers!

      At this point we will have to wait and see what Blackmagic comes out with. Their bigger switchers are ready for an upgrade soon (I hope) so a bigger and better option should be on it’s way!

    @Here to Record One question John, clearly that was a short run you did for your initial demo but did it have any signs of getting very hot? That is an awful lot of possible heat generating technology packed into such a small unit, can you possible give it a really long run and report back on that particular aspect?
    We have the mini, which gets warm when used for long periods so I'm really interested to know before considering splashing all that dosh on the ISO version ;-)
    Also, on BMD's past 'rapid' upgrade performance on this little unit - it will be interesting to see what they do with their PRO range - for example, at the moment the only one bit of kit with scalers on the inputs is the 4K panel....

      @@KristofferLislegaard Many thanks for your input... I rather feared there would be, or might be some overheating issues as that's a lot of hardware tech packed into a very small box...
      Your report is worrying though, because that is not 'it gets very hot but keeps working' clearly it didn't in your case...
      Best wishes, John

      Just to follow up on this - I have had similar issues mentioned by Kristoffer with my Pro model (not the ISO) so that might not have been the ISOs fault, and not necessarily due to overheating. I’ve put a support ticket in to BMD to take a look at that issue.

    Second time I'm watching this, this time a year or so later, in search of some help/guidance. So, I chat mod for a Twitch streamer who streams his job as a trucker with a multi camera set up, he had the Mini Pro for live switching, and upgraded over a year ago to the Extreme ISO for more inputs, between me and him we decided to pay a little extra for ISO to give us editing options in the future, I also video edit for a living. We've finally got an SSD, I decided we'd use a Sabrent 3.1 NVME enclosure with a 2TB Samsung 970 EVO Plus, mainly coz that option gives us higher bandwidth than a SATA drive, whilst a cheaper flexibility to have a 2nd drive to swap in the future if we fill a drive.
    So, here's our problem, he successfully recorded 10GB of footage as a test yesterday after plugging in the SSD and pressing record on the Atem Mini Extreme ISO, but we only got the composited output video (we stream with 3 PIP at the top overlayed the main video), there were no subfolders, no individual ISO files and no Resolve edit file on the SSD as I was expecting. Now, after watching this video at 2:21 where you've got the ATEM Software Control on screen, I see in the Record Stream section that you got "ISO record all inputs" ticked, my theory now is that this isn't selected by default, and it needs to be selected in the software first, and that will create the situation where the subfolders get created. Everything I've watched and read before my streamer bought the Extreme ISO and up to this point, suggests ISO recording is out of the box, all I've seen people show and talk about are the subfolders and project file with no mention of it needs to be "turned on", I've not once seen anyone with a situation where they only have the output video recorded like we experienced.
    Can you confirm whether my theory may be correct or not? Since it's the weekend we can't test as the Atem Mini Extreme ISO is in his truck, but after watching your video, I did say to him, one evening after his driving hours to plug in his laptop and open the ATEM Software Control to check whether that box is ticked or not, but I thought I'd still ask you since a) you've got more experience, b) I've never had actual hands on with the device, and c) there doesn't seem to be anything about this online when I've searched, so maybe it'll help others if we can get a definite answer. I'm also hoping the Atem device stores the setting, this needs to be plug and play, where the SSD gets plugged in and when record is pressed on demand it remembers the record all ISO inputs, as it's not viable for him get get his laptop out every time he wants to record part of a journey.

    For me the ISO looks like a device from heaven. I've been building logging software as well , and I've used it a lot. This thing however packs so many of the separate hardware and software elements I currently need into one tiny device. Whenever we get back to in-person events, this is going to streamline my work a lot! Can't wait to get my hands on one.
    I was lucky to receive my ATEM Mini Pro ISO early, but I had to send it back because af a hardware issue. Currently waiting for a replacement device. And no sign of the Bridge yet...
    Did BMD send you an ATEM Streaming Bridge as well? Would love to see if that can solve the lack of outputs on the device. One workflow I planned is to use the built-in HDMI for multiview and then use the Bridge to connect to other monitors for program out. I wonder if connecting the Bridge can be done while simultaneously live streaming though. Any thoughts on that?

    • @heretorecord
      @heretorecord  4 года назад +1

      I have not yet gotten a Streaming Bridge but hoping to get on ASAP! I think the delay on the bridge could be just long enough to be confusing in your use case but I sure hope not! I plan to try something similar if I can!

    • @bartatwork
      @bartatwork 4 года назад

       @Here to Record Cool. Not sure about the latency, it doesn't look too bad I'd say. Time will tell when I get one :)
      But looking at how the Bridge is set up, I can't help but wonder if it's actually a standard RTMP receiver in a small box. The settings one needs to put in on the ATEM side are the exact same as when one would stream to any RTMP destination. So I wonder if the Streaming Bridge can receive non-ATEM streaming sources as well. That would be interesting!

      @TD-er 3 года назад +1

      Make sure to watch other videos about this as not all external SSDs seem to work well with the ATEM mini pro ISO.

      There are reports the Samsung T5 does work fine, while the Samsung T7 does not.

    • @enregistreur
      @enregistreur 4 года назад +1

      From my understanding it may be the SSD cache and storing algorithm that gets caught up by the volume of data being written, thus reducing writing speed after some time. The BMPCC4K/6K have the same issues when SSD writing speed slows down, alhtough they probably have an internal cache, it's quite limited, and the recordings stop at some point.
      The T7 memory chips and controller are different from the T5, they have fast writing speed, but must rearrange the data earlier, to reduce wear on the drive (IIRC). So better in bursts than in the long run.
      In another review someone had more luck with the Sandisk USB-C drives, the thing to look for is a consistent write speed over long periods of time, under sustained load. But it's rare to find because no IT tech reviewer would let a Disk Speed Benchmark run for like 2 hours or more. :p
      I'm not an expert, this is just a guess.

    How do you record it to an external drive and connect the ATEM to your computer and still connect the computer to the Internet all at the same time? It seems like you Don’t have enough ports.

    • @heretorecord
      @heretorecord  4 года назад

      You can connect the ATEM mini Pro and the computer to the same network switch so that you can still control the ATEM.

    I am working at an event with no internet access. They want a multi cam music video within 24 hours, so I thought I could live cut while recording ISO's and then tweak in resolve after for a quick delivery. But since I cannot use the controller interface via ethernet. Do you know if I set up the ATEM via usb to record ISO's and then plug in my ssd will the settings stay the same? Or do the settings change once you disconnect the controller?

    • @heretorecord
      @heretorecord  3 года назад

      You can set up the ATEM and choose "save startup state" then go to your event and everything will work as expected.
      Don't forget though, you can still connect an ATEM to a laptop/computer directly via a network cable - This was you get full control over the ATEM - test it out before your gig!

      You should use a HDMI to HDMI cable if you want to connect the laptop to the ATEM Mini. You should treat your laptop as though it was a camera or any other device like that.

    So, I’m guessing you can’t do the ISO recording unless you’re streaming from the device itself. So if I want to use OBS to stream and the device simply for an interface, I can’t do the ISO recording?

    • @heretorecord

      That is correct. If you were to use the USB output of the device and bring that into OBS then you can no longer ISO record.

    Can you help me with few problems : I got today Atem mini pro iso .
    Problem #1: if only Ethernet cable is plugged than in Skype: - go to settings,- than to audio&video. - you'll see that camera is not found. and sound slider doesn't see ATEM mini Pro Iso. But everything works fine with USB C connection
    Problem #2: if VPN is used than program of ATEM can not find ATEM. it doesn't work with skype at all. But it works good with USB C.
    When manual IP is typed in ATEM Setup it makes it to activate ATEM software control , but ATEM Setup doesn't see Atem mini pro iso .
    the two listed problems are separate issues .
    the most important is Problem #1

    • @heretorecord
      @heretorecord  4 года назад

      Hey - problem 1 is expected. The only way that Skype could possibly see this device is over USB so you will need to connect it via USB to use it with Skype. Not sure about problem 2 as I haven’t tried using a VPN at the same time, but again I would expect that so I suspect you will need to do a lot of manual IP settings.

    ISO is NOT ISO! Please help us as a community. The ISO recordings are only Video ISOs!! The audio is totally corrupted, as all ISO recordings have Program mixed audio tracks. What you have to do is go into the Audio ISO folder to find the, let's say CAM 3 audio. The problem is is that there is no easy way to re-sync the ISO audio with the ISO video clip because as the audio track on the ISO video recording does not have the same waveform to referent to, because it is corrupted as a program audio mix. What's up with that? and can you tell us all how to fix this terrible oversight by Black Magic?
