Maybe I can ask you, I have big problems with Atem Extreme iso SDI device. We have now made about 10 streams with the device. Every time some of the cameras start stuttering, the picture goes black. We have changed the wires, disconnected the mains power, xlr cables, etc. I have tested the SDI cables by recording with the same camera, the same cable, with the same settings for the Atomos recorder for 5-6 hours without stuttering. In the device, the image goes black only in the input connectors, not in the output. The broadcast can work normally for an hour and after that some of the cameras start to go black. Blackmagic support says that this is the first case, the only thing I've found out is that I should make the camera and input connection with the ReClock function.
Great video and thank you for showing about the camera control. Question. Are you sacrificing that output solely for camera control? Or can you split to get a monitor view or something?
@@heretorecord ok sorry if my question ends a follow up now. Lol. But if I use that output to a monitor and then also send to the cameras, do I maintain camera control?
If SDI output 2 is set to multiview in the software control, will the switcher remember that setting and maintain that assignment upon the next start up? I'm trying to price and set up a system for a client, they want to avoid using the software control if at all possible. Hope someone can answer. Thanks!
That’s what turnarounds are for. Years ago a particular venue required us to use their stagehands to pull cable in and move the cameras into position. All six pieces of triax were run backwards. The EIC pulled the turnarounds out and saved the day. The stagehands took their moment of shame and learned, they never did that again.
I have a 2/me as well, and the Atem ISO SDI is a perfect solution for multirecording (5 channels !). For this price you 'll never find 5 recorders ! thanks for the awesome video as usual ;-)
You say it has 5-channel recording "built in," and that it's a "multi-channel recorder," but there's no media slot that I can see. I'm assuming you have to use the USB disk output to record to an external SSD... but do you need a special SSD to record all 5 streams at one time without ever dropping frames? That seems super sketch to me... not sure I would want to trust an entire production to that.
SDI is great but buying this one now would most probably not be wise. At the rate Blackmagic upgrades this will be replace with a 4K switch shortly. So I will hang in there with my HDMI extreme for now.
@@heretorecord I have 3 Canon XA55's with SDI outputs, and those can output in 4K. Do you think you'd see any increase in sharpness by running SDI out of those at 4K, even if this downsamples to 1080? As compared to the HDMI output at 1080 that I'm currently running. Thanks.
Great overview! I’ve been watching some of your videos as I’ve been trying to understand the products to make a purchase of what I need. I’ll probably still go with the atem mini extreme iso. As you said if you have an sdi monitor situation it’s better than reconverting everything. We plan on having 2 studio 4k pros (I might run Sdi and stick two boxes directional converters on it) and 1 bmpcc 6k w/ teradek ace 500. Outside of that equipment, I was considering getting the power focus and zoom w the 2 of 4 lenses I’ve learned only work with this work flow as I am working with less experienced operators. (I can pull and rack focus/zoom live all day if it were me ) Is there anything you can think of that I would still need in this workflow?
Special edition coming to ep. 100?🥳 I was just wondering about the SDI camera control but the distribution box explained that. Great video, keep going! 🤩
And we still can’t get an extreme iso in a rack version…. I wish it had the ability to jam sync timecode just like the pocket cinema cameras also. That would be a massive time saver!
by the way, I know you've already mentioned it but I'm unable to find it. Can you give me the name of the software you use for all your schematics ? thanks ;-)
Is there a latency difference between the HDMI and the SDI version?
SDI is generally quicker.

You can use that output on a monitor - absolutely. Whatever source signal you want on that monitor will also go to all the cameras as a program return
@@heretorecord ok sorry if my question ends a follow up now. Lol. But if I use that output to a monitor and then also send to the cameras, do I maintain camera control?
You do indeed maintain camera control. It is just sent to all cameras via SDI and it does not matter what the video signal on that SDI cable is.
So you can use the two outputs for multi view and program? 1 being preview and the other being multi view..
Yes - 1 can be preview and 1 can be MultiView. The only expect is on the base ATEM SDI model, which has no multiview.
Can you use the video hub software for routing the outputs? Also can you assign the multi view to any output?
I suspect you can use it with the Video Hub software but I have yet to try - and yes, multiview can go to output 1 and 2

Yes, but you will want to "Save startup state" in the software control before you power-off the device
Hi, thanks for the video. One quick question about the SDI version. Is channel one still set for YUV color output for gaming? Thanks!
Looks like the "Camera 1 Direct" has been removed from this SDI series, so I suspect the YUV colour output is not accessible anymore
HDMI fiber in the correct direction, HA! A lifetime ago I ran 1500 feet of Triax the wrong way. lesson learned.

If you're holding out for 4K then waiting does sound like a good plan!

Unfortunately the ATEM will not accept those 4K signals over SDI so the XA55s will need to output 1080.

Introducing the Atem SDI... "Connect your Studio 4K Pro, and record in 1080p" 🤣
Waiting on the 4K version 😅
oh just i wish there is one hdmi at least for input from laptops
Hi. Help, help, help, help... I have a monitor with SDI input and output. How can I use it with an Aten MiNI HDMI?
Use a Blackmagic SDI to HDMI micro converter for this!

For this you will need a HDMI to SDI converter. There are many available out there

Hey - you can use a HDMI to SDI converter to do this. Blackmagic have a few options for this.
