    Honestly the best tutorial for the square disc. Having never touched it before, I successfully made my first flat braid. It wasn't perfect, but it was vastly better than what I might have created if I didn't know what pitfalls to avoid.

    lovely tutorial, but i found myself doing it better remembering the numbers like 15-5,4-15,14-4, i think for a beginner ity is much easier. Not sure if anyone else has tried it that way, but would be interesting to find out if teachers do teach by numbers also. Thanks for sharing your great ideas.

    Thank you for this excellent tutorial, and the tips at the end for setting up braids with even more warps. The first (and only) standard 10 warp braid I made used eight cords in the main color and just two in a coordinating color (intended to warm up the main color just a little bit). I really had no idea what I was doing, or if it would work. I lucked out, starting the odd colors at the crossover (which I didn't know of at the time), and soon discovered a diamond pattern emerging! Seeing how those two cords travelled showed me the importance of the crossover to this braid, and the diamonds now gave me a specific place (at the widest point) to nestle the gemstone beads I'd planned to use all along. Pure beginner's luck! I think this square disk series will inspire me to push my luck once more!

    Ty. I just purchased Kumihimo plates, I'm very new to this art. Eventually I want to make an even wider braid with thicker or more cords for a larger handbag. Question on the 12 cord braid: why not take the 2 side cords to the top like you do on the 10 cord braid?

    • @Prumihimo
      @Prumihimo  5 лет назад +1

      Georgia Corey - The reason for this that at this point there are already 6 cords on the top and 4 on the bottom, so by bringing the side cords down you have the same number of cords on the bottom.

  • @carbonsu
    @carbonsu 5 лет назад +1

    This may be a stupid question but is it at all possible to do a flat braid using a round disk with these braiding methods? Or would that produce a different shape? I'm very new to kumihimo and I am absolutely in love with it. Excellent tutorials!

    • @Prumihimo
      @Prumihimo  5 лет назад +1

      It is a very good question! In theory, yes you can make this braid on the round disk, but it would be harder to get even tension and straight sides. If you shop around you can buy these very cheaply, so I would recommend getting one.

    • @Prumihimo
      @Prumihimo  3 года назад

      There are several ways you can finish them off. You can try flat ribbon ends that you squash flat with pliers or you can squeeze the flat braid into more of a round braid and treat them just the same as a round braid.

    and how much length is average? does the material change those numbers

    • @Prumihimo
      @Prumihimo  4 года назад

      The ususal recommendation for all kumihimo is to use 3x the required finished length for each cord. This is generous, but you can't add in more cord if you need it so It is worth sticking to this, especially as different materials do have a different take up, depending on the width and also the firmness of the cord.
