    no dude the videos are great I like them. I had a 90 gallon mixed reef I put together it was a fee for ready tank already drilled but I had to pice out everything else and make it work first salt water tank for me and it worked out fine for years but I was considering getting back into the hobby soon and I think the red sea reefer is something I want to consider and your videos really helped me out keep up great work.

      @pelphrey  7 лет назад +1

      Thank you, I appreciate that!!! I'm no expert nor beginner and I love this tank. As I progress in the hobby I don't see myself not liking this tank and the options I have with it. To be honest I almost bought an all in one IM tank, I am glad every day that I didn't. My only regret is not going bigger and I actually put a lot of thought into a much bigger system. When the numbers were broke down it just didn't make sense for me right now. I hope you get back in the hobby, things are always better once you've had your feet wet!

      How is everything going sir? Thanks for stopping by! I've already got a few things that I am going to change, but for the most part I am thrilled with the progress. I love building tanks, probably why this is my third tank in a year. I've learned a lot from my past mistakes so I've stepped up my research and I am trying to make the best purchases that I can. I can't wait to start spending money on livestock!

    Nice work. Wanted to give you an exact answer on the evaporation question. My reefer holds 59 gallons. I may have a little more rock and live sand, but we are in the same ball park. I left the tank for 6 days and used 3 gallons of water. The tank stayed between 76.8 and 77.3 degrees according to My Apex. I use a Thermco digital lab thermometer to conffirm temp. Only $34.72 on amazon. Its NIST traceable. Think its the same one that another company I really like buying from is selling...like them so much not going to say that actually have something over priced. That being said I really recommend it. Also getting great coral growth with the Red Sea Pro salt. Had no fish or coral loss while i was gone. Used the Eheim everyday fish feeder which works great with the New life spectrum Thera Plus A 1mm Pellets. I also used the blue square ring to make sure the pellets would sink. That was a great find. Thanks for that idea by the way.👍 Your pump set up is awesome. Trying to figure out how to incorporate that pump into my system. Hope That was not over kill...keep the videos coming.

      Thanks for the information! I got my Tunze 3155 this past week and my ATO container was finished the other day and should ship out on Monday. I am hoping that with the more precise Tunze I go through a lot less fresh water. I'll have to look into that temp probe to confirm my temps in the tank, thanks for that pro tip! I am liking the Red Sea salt so far, it mixes up great and doesn't leave and residue like reef crystals did. I created a lot of problems for myself before I started using the feeding ring, now that I use it I can see all of the food and I know it is getting eaten. I am actually in the process of ordering new parts to redo my return line plumbing. I "think" I have a better solution, the VarioS-6 pump has been great. I have had it running for about 2 months now and have had zero issues with it. I am running it on setting 3 of 5, I think once I redo the plumbing I will get a better turn over rate and still be able to add a manifold to the system. I am still undecided on whether or not I will run any reactors. I would like to run carbon and GFO, but in separate reactors. I got my skimmer today and now that I know the exact foot print in my sump I will be doing a fuge in the rest of my skimmer section. I had great luck out of my fuge in my first reef tank. Right now I am fighting a vicious diatom bloom so I need to order some clean up crew to combat that.
      Are you do weekly or bio weekly water changes on your tank?

    • @johnsreef2622
      @johnsreef2622 7 лет назад +1

      +pelphrey I also have the tunze 3155. It is awesome. Just a quick note about it. When I do water changes I have a little extra water move into the sump. This will cause I alarm to come on. I do this to prevent fresh water from entering the tank while I am doing a water change. Now the trick in when you plug it back in there is a default where the tunze will prime the pump. I find this unnecessary and I do not like it pumping fresh water in the tank when it's not necessary. So my trick is to let the alarm go for 15 seconds and then I will Take a small amount of water out of the sump to get the water to the point the float falls. This will stop the alarm and will not push the fresh water in the tank.
      As far as your question goes. I am currently doing weekly 7 -8 gallon water changes. I am having good Coral growth without dosing. However I went a little crazy today and bought the Neptune DOS. Just had a birthday and everyone gave me money for the reef. So I went all out.

    • @pelphrey
      @pelphrey  7 лет назад

      +John I can't wait to hear what you have to say about the DOS! I've been doing 5 gallon water changes, if I do more I have to mix up 2 buckets. Thanks for the tips on the ATO, I still haven't got it hooked it up yet. Interested to see what all the hype is about though for sure! Happy Birthday!

  • @quinnyrethus
    @quinnyrethus 7 лет назад +1

    Awesome mate. I can't wait to set mine up, I'm interested to see how you finish up your wiring solution as I need to run a chiller in my part of the world and plan to try and tuck it away in the stand. This will make it tricky to fit everything else in though and the electrics will need to be carefully planned and placed. My Nuvo 10g is barely scratching the itch after watching others setting up their 250's haha.

    • @pelphrey
      @pelphrey  7 лет назад

      I won't be running a chiller, but this is why I mounted a board to the wall behind the stand in the chiller compartment cutout. I suppose if push comes to shove you could run the chiller outside of the stand, or put a small cabinet beside the stand to put your electronics. Or they could be mounted above the sump! The possibilities are endless!

    I like how the return pump chamber is in your sump vs my new Red Sea 250 I just set up 4 days ago. My ATO float is on the same side the water flows into that chamber and it trickles down over that corner piece and trickles! Why put all that effort into making their systems quiet if the sump is going to be loud! Lol doesn’t make me any difference because it’s a fish tank I know they make noise and that’s acceptable to me. The thing I hate about it is I’m nervous that it’s not going to top off correctly if there’s water constantly running over that float valve.

    • @pelphrey
      @pelphrey  2 года назад

      I sold this reef awhile back, but overall was very happy with it! It would strongly suggest getting a different ATO. I ran the Tunze 3155 for years successfully. I’m not enjoying life reef free, hope you enjoy your tank!

    very progression.. I have always went with sand, so I'm curious to see how ur tank would look.. either way it's going to look nice! especially with kessils

    • @pelphrey
      @pelphrey  7 лет назад

      I read a lot of people paint the outside bottom of the tank white so that it is reflective. Time will tell if the bottom of my tank is reflective and if it is I hope that helps get light to coral lower on the rock work. Without sand it is hard to judge exactly how much flow I have in the tank, but so far I am liking it. The only issue I may run into is if I put frags on rubble rock and place them on the glass, they may get blown all over the place.
      I do like the look of sand and I may very well add sand later. Never know what direction I will go down!

  • @KevinENHVlogs

    I cant believe i just sat here for 16 minutes watch water and salt. WTH !!!!!!!! just kidding glad to see the progress and there is nothing wrong with mixing it in the tank seeing that you wont be putting anything in. Just make sure that all the salt gets mixed out and not trapped among the rocks which i am sure thats something that you accounted for. Its not a build without something going wrong ... that makes you know your going in the right direction. Over all the tank looks great and you did a good job with the pluming and stuff

    • @pelphrey
      @pelphrey  7 лет назад

      HAHA maybe I should have left the video unedited and we could have watched it in "real-time"! I got 40 gallons into the tank and had to make more water, the first 40 gallons had a day to mix up in the tank before I added more water and salt. It just didn't make sense to mix it in a bucket and pour it in!

    Hi again. I need help in setting the water level in the tank and sump. Until where do I fill the tank and inside the weir. Do I just fill the tank until the sump is filled with water? Tried to find how but couldnt find any proper guide. Thanks

    • @pelphrey
      @pelphrey  7 лет назад +1

      +joey you don't want to fill the sump all of the way. Fill the tank until it drains into the sump. I run my skimmer section with water up to the top of the baffle going into the divider before it hits the return section. If you shut down your return pump or it stops it will drain water back into the sump. So be sure to do a power failure test.

    • @jzy0104
      @jzy0104 7 лет назад +1

      pelphrey about Ok. How many inches did you fill the return section with the pump off? Thanks a lot. There are so many things I need to learn lol.

    • @pelphrey
      @pelphrey  7 лет назад +1

      +joey there is no specific answer to that question. If you are using the stock auto top off with the float then that float will be your guide.

    • @pelphrey
      @pelphrey  7 лет назад +1

      +joey you can set the ehiem heaters with the dial. Just set one lower than the other. I use my apex controller, it tells my heater(s) when to turn on and off by the temp probe.

    Great setup. I have my reefer 350 running now but I am having skimmer overflow issues.It's Reef Octo 110 int. Any ideas ? thx.

    • @pelphrey
      @pelphrey  7 лет назад

      Is it a brand new skimmer? Brand new skimmers take some time to break in, if you've had it running for awhile it may take some tweaking to get it adjusted just right. Remember a lot of times the adjusments that need to be made are very minor. Like the gate valve on your red sea reefer return.
      My nyos skimmer has air and water level adjustments. It takes very very minor turns to get a good skim.

    • @KATravels91
      @KATravels91 7 лет назад +1

      yes it. Just hooked up everything on may 7th. My tank is already cycled since I moved live rock from my 30g tank which was running for 4 years. All parameters are good. Just the Skimmer overflow is crazy. I am not sure if it due to high water levels. Also whats our take on Jebao PP/RW 15. it is too powerful for this tank. thx.

    • @pelphrey
      @pelphrey  7 лет назад

      I forgot about the skimmer water level, you may need to raise it up. I do know that on some skimmers the manufacturer says a certain depth, but raising it up may solve your issues. I would try to raise it up an inch or so and see how the skimmer reacts. I sometimes put a plastic gallon bag over my collection cup on the skimmer so it doesn't splatter everywhere.
      The RW15 is a large pump, I think it is a fine line between the RW8 and the RW15. I would run the pump(2) at the low speed and see how the tank responses to that. I am running two Gyre 230's on my reefer 250 anti-sync mode, both pumps running at 40%.

    • @KATravels91
      @KATravels91 7 лет назад

      I have raised the skimmer since RO recommends 7.5-8 inches. But still the same issue. I will wait and see. Putting the bag is a good idea since I have to clean up salt/water splatter on a daily basis.
      As for Powerhead, pp15 is powerful even though I may just need one. Or I will downgrade to RW8 instead. thx.

    Do you have the water line in the return going over the secondary return pipe or just the primary? If so did you just narrow the return in the primary pipe to raise the level

    • @pelphrey
      @pelphrey  6 лет назад

      I do have a slight amount of water going into the emergency drain. The water level is dictated by a gate valve. This video may help to answer these questions ruclips.net/video/cFL1Jmktn2U/видео.html
