    This was a really cool video to do. I think a lot of new reefers have no idea how to do a water change and this will be very helpful to them. Being a reefer for over a decade even I learned something new, ordering those gamma seals now!

      I hope to get to your status and be involved in reefing for a decade! I've been using that same gamma seal for well over 2 years now with no issues what so ever, I feel like they are far better than any other "sealed" lids on the market. But that is my own personal opinion of course! Thanks for stopping by & have a great day!

      Thanks! My pleasure, the lids are really nice. I've used this same bucket and lid for probably close to 2 years now!

    do you only do 5g water changes on the red sea tank? i just ordered one and was curious on how much to do

    • @pelphrey
      @pelphrey  4 года назад

      I'm not consistent with my water changes at all. I did a large 25ish gallon water change about 2 months ago. Haven't done one since then!

    Is it safe to use the Home Depot orange buckets to mix the new water / salt? Your thoughts? Also could you use the orange buckets to hold your ATO water? I'm new to the hobby so please forgive my ignorance. Thanks.

    • @pelphrey
      @pelphrey  7 лет назад

      I used these buckets as my ATO container for a long time. I’ve stored water in them before. I’ve kept salt in this bucket for probably 2 years now. Have had no issues! Just make sure it is sealed if you keep salt in it. I have links to the gama lid on the top comment or in the description.

    Great vid! Looks like the MJ1200 is rated for 295GPH... does it take just 60 seconds to fill/empty the bucket? Also, what size is the tubing for that powerhead? Thanks!

      I am now using a Sicce 1.5 since I had it laying around. I am not sure how long it takes to fill. I use 1/2 tubing.

    Is that your ATO sensor below the media reactor? If so should it be on the return chamber?

    • @pelphrey
      @pelphrey  7 лет назад

      Neptune optical sensor for high level sump alerts, which will also shut equipment down if triggered. Tunze sensors are in my return chamber.

    • @JaiderChiu
      @JaiderChiu 7 лет назад

      Cool you use that one instead of the Tunze high water float valve right?

    • @pelphrey
      @pelphrey  7 лет назад

      Tunze is a standalone unit, so I still rely on the float sensor to shut the ATO off. The optical sensor will shut down my skimmer, return pump and as a fail safe it will shut down the tunze controller.

    why only gallons at a time. shouldn't you change a higher amount

    • @pelphrey
      @pelphrey  7 лет назад

      Depends on what why you are changing water. You have to remember that mixing fresh salt water may have higher paramtwrs (alk, cal, mag). These elements need to be stable in a saltwater tank, changing out a small portion of the water ensures those numbers don’t fluctuation much, if at all. For me I use a doser and dose elements into my tank, so I don’t change water that often.

      my nitrites are out of control.. I have tried some 25 gallon changes and no effect... I have tank as you and RODI system

    • @pelphrey
      @pelphrey  7 лет назад

      nitrites or nitrates? If you have high nitrites your tank is still cycling or is going through a new cycle possibly.

    • @streetgliude07
      @streetgliude07 7 лет назад

      pelphrey sorry nitrates. Tank is over year old. No cycle here
