  • In this video we do A LOT of things! We paint tins, Re-Seal an engine, Wiring fixes, upgrade coolers and much more. It my longest video to date, but it's the most work I've crammed into one video. Grab a drink, and a snack before you sit down to watch this one.

    Useful tip that has worked for me for close to 20 years. Use lip balm on the manifold gaskets. It helps them seal better and also not get stuck to heads and manifolds when replacement is needed. Love the parts from Gene Berg too; as he used to say “cry only once” because you’ll only need to buy them once. They are that good.

      I’ve used grease on intakes before. Never lip balm. Good tip.
      Gene Berg is the best. 👊🏽

    I never have a problem finding original tin at VW swaps. With that said, I’m in So Cal and we have quite a few good swaps through out the year. Grab good stuff when ever you can find it.
    Unlike cases, good German tin can be used,fixed and used again and again. I’m always grabbing good stuff when I find it. Especially “Hoover” bits for dg coolers.

    For cutting the gasket use bandsaw first then sander FYI HEHEHE. nice work it's so great to watch your videos.

    Solid work as usual - lots of good procedure and information…don’t forget to mention direction of the cooling slot on the alternator breast plate…see to many pointing the wrong direction… ;-)

    I used to rebuild VW big engines back in the 60's and I found that the early 30 horse engine push rods had thin wood shafts inside. Not sure why but very interesting!

    Speaking as a bone stock guy it’s really great to see just how much different a dual carb street motor is to build up and install. I hope to build a stoplight car someday.
    I learned a bunch. Thx!👍

      I’m not a fan of the aesthetics of the compressor. I’ve installed AC once under protest. Not sure I’d do it again. But the possibility exists. We’ll see.

    G'day,
    The engine looks killer.
    I've just swapped out my alternator for a black unit. It finishes off the black theme I also have going.
    Q. Are you going to install the J Tube tins.
    Owe and I also had trouble with my Empi sleds. Heaps of mod work.
    So thanks for sharing, man. I love the content you put out.
    ✌️ Peace from Melbourne Australia.

      What are the J tube tins?

    • @kevinhamling1963
      @kevinhamling1963 27 дней назад

      @the_Wagen
      J tube tins or industrial tins.
      These are tins that replace the heater boxes. It's basically a tin with a cut out for the J tube. Put into google, Industrial cooling tins.
      ✌️ Peace

    I know you are in a pretty constant climate, but why not install the stock thermostat and flaps? Lots of discussion on this topic, but I’m asking you. My Squareback engine doesn’t have anything but I’m going to add all the stock Type 3 pieces whenever I pull the engine.

    • @the_Wagen
      @the_Wagen  Месяц назад +1

      The dell offset manifold is my choice. I’ve used the reverse manifold on my brothers Baja with 48 IDA’s. They were sharp. 👍🏽 I liked em.

    • @the_Wagen
      @the_Wagen  Месяц назад +1

      I got them from a guy named Kona. They were pricey. $1.00 each. Now they are more expensive. Every VW show I see him at I pick up 100

    • @the_Wagen
      @the_Wagen  15 дней назад +1

      I get them from a gentleman named Kona Flemming. I believe he sells on the Samba. But I buy them by the hundreds when I see him at shows.

    What’s your intake on swapping oil measurements (summer & winter?). Running 20/50 right now. Recently rebuilt engine. 100F/70F weather, what size do you recommend for then it gets colder? 40-60F, never lower than that! Should I keep 20/50? Or go lower, and if so, to what size? Thank you!

    • @the_Wagen
      @the_Wagen  Месяц назад
