Electric Fuel Pump Install in A Bug
This video shows how I install an electric fuel pump in a Type 1 VW Bug. We have to address a few additional items as well, (clogged stock fuel line, and wiring) but nothing you may not have done before. The advantage of an electric fuel pump is a consistent psi, the elimination of the mechanical pump on the engine (though minimal it's still parasitic drag), and the clean aesthetic of losing all those additional hoses on your engine.
This is a detailed look at all the extras I put into my work so enjoy the show.

Pandraggers Type 1 Skid Plate Install
Просмотров 95621 день назад
This week we do some Low Life upgrades. To live the lowlife is a risk ,but with the proper preparation you can survive unscathed. For type 1 (Bugs, Ghia) there is a simple solution for saving that horse head. Levi over at Pandraggers has made a simple, bolt on skid plate for the front end. We tackle the install in this video to save Jim's 63 bug from any additional damage. #volkswagen #diyautor...

This week we have an old friend in for some much needed attention. "Basic Tune Goes Sideways" is in for all that much needed work to get her tightened up. Jim's bug is slammed! It also has blown out axle boots. This combo is a transaxle killer. Once we open up that gearbox, the damage is catastrophic. Nothing we can't get fixed. #volkswagen #diyautorepair #vwbug #upgrade #automobile #vw #transm...

This weeks video is some catch up. We catch up on what’s going on with current projects. I’ve got videos in production, but none completed unfortunately. But at least you get to see what’s coming down the pipeline. We have a surprise visit from a past build as well. (Video on that coming soon) It’s been a few weeks since I’ve uploaded , but it doesn’t mean we aren’t working hard. #vwbus #vwbug ...
Adding More Power to a VW Bus

We all know the stock VW wiring is taxed to its limits just as it is. But what do you do when you need an electric fuel pump, a fan for your oil cooler, and any other power needs on a performance Air cooled VW build. You have to add the needed power supply to run all those accessories. Well I'm going to show you how I do it. Grab a drink, get your notepad, and let's get to work. #volkswagen #vw...

This week we dig into what it take to install a new wiring harness. This is not a wire by wire tutorial, but instead it's a guide to tackling the task successfully. How to start, diagnose the original wiring issues, correct them, and tips to simplify the install. Wiring is extremely intimidating, but if you take your time, and follow the written instructions thoroughly, you'll get it done prope...
Synchronizing Dual Carbs on a VW Bus

in this weeks video we dive into the mysteries of synchronizing dual 48 IDA's. It's truly not that difficult once you understand what you are doing. With good products, and a good foundation, it can be done once and repeated only when needed. I will go further into the details of a base tune, jetting, and ignition in the future, but for now let's just sync the carbs. #diyautorepair #volkswagen ...
Installing a Gene Berg Linkage on a VW Bus

I'm prepared for the hate to roll in on this one. Do you want the best linkage available on the market to date? Then you want a Gene Berg shroud mount linkage. Designed after an original Porsche dual carb linkage, Gene Berg Linkage can keep those carbs synced for many miles of fun. Not everyone is a fan of the aesthetics of a Berg linkage, but I think they look great. As far as functionality , ...
Rebuilding A VW Bug Pedal Assembly with an Upgrade.

I've seen it far too often. A bug has a mechanical restoration and the pedals were overlooked. Even if just for the aesthetics , but more for the mechanical benefit , your pedals deserve a re-vamp. This is a budget minded video. We try to take a crusty mess and make it a shining jewel, without buying any parts. Speaking of parts...we add a EMPI throttle pedal roller upgrade. Installing Front Disc Brakes on an Early VW Bus

It's back to work kids. No more fun stuff, just straight install time. If you own a 55-63 VW Bus, then you understand the struggle of finding a good front disc brake kit. They get expensive real fast since not many shops build them. Well EMPI offers a kit that is affordable, and decent quality. (I've heard the bearings suck, but time will tell) This week we dive into the install of this kit. It...
Installing a Supercharger on a VW Bug!

I Made a Mistake! VW Bus Sump re-do

This week we revisit a job that was done a while ago. The sump I installed in my early videos had to be re-done. I was unaware that bay window motors sit lower than split bus engines. Installing upgraded Safari Window seals.

This week we are back to work. But what better to work on than a cheap easy upgrade? While at BBB I picked up a new product I wasn't aware of. They come pre cut for the fronts so you really got to pack that seal in there. Lucky enough we got som...

I was curious , On the master Cylinder for the front, one side looks to have a residual valve on one wheel but not the other? why is that? On my bus I have a residual valve on both front lines and one going to the back. Used same type master as you have but my master doesnt have any residual valves on it. my brakes seem really hard to get good stopping power. I have to press pretty hard . Any comments?
My Master Cylinder was from Empi Most likely a different manufacturer. This is a 4 wheel disc master cylinder. Residual valves have been removed.
@@the_Wagen Thanks, but it looks like those brass pieces in the MC are still attached and you connected your brake lines to them. they are pointed to the driver side I think. arent those residual valves?
No they are not. 👍🏽
Pan saver.
I appreciate the idiots warning.😂 “We’re working with gasoline here”
Just ordered mine. 👍🏻
That spacer is in cb perf brake kits
Good to know. 👍🏽
Great work
Thank you sir. 👊🏽
Solid work. I appreciate your attention to detail! Keep ‘em coming
Thanks, will do!
Always thorough with your explanations. Just inherited a set of Dellortos 45s and will reference this video when I get tgem cleaned and installed. A friend of mine has the Dellorto book in his garage and no more VWs so I think I'll make the drive and go pick it up.
Dells require a half turn not a quarter to a whole turn on the mixture screws for response. 👍🏽finer threads.
Love the vapor gua4d fittings .been using them at the shop daily
They are slick.
Great video any updates on the Supercharger conversion , have you had it on a dyno
No Dyno as of yet. But the car rips now. 👍🏽
Nice work , i was running the Facet Posi flo pump with regulator but just ordered the Carter P90091 from US
Thank you 🙏
Si si 😂
Great videos! Question, where can I get the special nuts (M8X1.25 NUT WITH A 10mm) for the intakes?
I get them from a gentleman named Kona Flemming. I believe he sells on the Samba. But I buy them by the hundreds when I see him at shows.
Thank you!
Nicely done with great details. Cool heater block off plates with button head hardware👍.
Very nice
Nice and clean. I think I’ll redo my set up soon. I pick up power for the fuel pump off the brake light switch.
I used to do that. I prefer a clean power supply off a relay.
Another great video! I’m fairly new to classic VWs and this helps me know what’s available and what works. thanks again
Thanks for watching!
Nice information. 👍
Thanks
Another great video. Great attention to detail.
Thanks.
Love your videos... the way you are always cleaning and wiping everything thing you touch is the way it should be!! Every video i have watched i been very impressed.. keep them coming
Thank you so much!!
Did you see my install video too? Did exactly the same thing with the fittings and hoses! From the rear line installed a square style squareback style fuel filter. Uploaded it earlier of the week.
I did not my friend. This was filmed 3 weeks ago. Great minds think alike. 👍🏽
Awesome video's, great explanations of what you are doing....I'm hooked! 👍🏼
Love the content! You set the bar for attention to detail!
I appreciate that!
Another great video! Funny how Carter will have this same pump assembly offered by many vendors. I have the same setup in the back of my 69 BMW (dual sidedraft carbs), but I added an enertia (accident) switch and relay.
Good idea.
I like to add fuel pump oil pressure cut off switch , so pump is not running with key on only when there is oil pressure. It's a a nice safety device .
Another great video! I replaced the original CB hex bar linkage that came with my dual Dellorto 40 assembly after a few years - with a Berg linkage. Had to order (2) longer arms from Berg to reach the throttle shafts. Huge difference in throttle response and lighter pressure on the pedal.
Agreed. My pedal feels stock. You’d never know I have dual carbs. 👍🏽
When you did get it running, almost sounded like the fan was noisy - perhaps the nut was loose or the fan was scraping against the sheetmetal. Also at full suspension droop, the muffler was up against the RR brake caliper.
Fan is fine. The muffler does touch the caliper at full drop. This car rides extremely low. It’s nowhere near it while driving. Good eye. 👍🏽
Hey George! Chad T here. You shortened my 69 chassis for a Berry Mini T in 2016 and I'm finally getting around to building it! Quick question. How did you cover the differential for the tamale when you put it in the "dishwasher" at 29 minutes in? Looks like you used orange duct tape? Any pointers here would be great! Thanks man.
Duct tape. But I knew we were going to take it apart. So no water would stay in it. 👍🏽
Great work as always !
Appreciate that
Definitely like to get a skid plate for my 67 bug just incase..
Excellent.
Great video here. So much good information here. Well-presented and easy to understand.
Much appreciated!
I use a smaller diameter Porsche 356 generator pulley in my alternator to get more fan speed and help with cooling (fan is welded and balanced, of course). The crank pulley is a Gene Berg Achiever. I need to check which number size I have.
The important part is the construction of the belt. Make sure it’s threaded/ reinforced.
Great clip....When I get them in hit like that it's a do over and then on to the alinement rack ...
I’ve asked Jim to make an alignment appointment with a local shop called Arrow alignment. 👍🏽
Another well-made, concise video. Thank you for sharing your knowledge
Thanks for watching!
First time seeing, one of those skid plates.👍
So dont do things like your brother make it run and drive it lol
Love my pandraggers parts skid plate and drop plates
Thanks for sharing, alot of good info. Can't you make a skid plate similar like the type 1 skid plate ??
I think the shave gives extra ground clearance. A skid plate would constantly hit the ground.
@@the_Wagen Understood, would be great if you made the sleeves for the type 3 already bent with the stud and holes already drilled. That wat all I would have to do is unbolt the coller , cut and drill the hole for the lower sleeve to bolt to the beam. I don't have access to welding equipment where I'm located. Is the pre-bent sleeve ideal a possible item you could make and sell??
@@MobileSportsMedia Since they are made per job, and if the hole is not drilled in the right spot it may not work.
@@the_Wagen Ok understood, thanks for your time. Have a good day.
I don’t think that skid plate is going to stay that nice for a long time on that sideways bug.
That’s why its rattle can, not powder coat. 👍🏽
Did you end up raising the rear end?
Nope. Jim wants it that low.
Nicely done👍
Thanks 👍
Good to see the “sideways bug” getting straightened up again.
Hi George
Hello.
Nice little piece.
I always wanted to see this process in detail. Thanks for sharing.
Nice test drive! Very interesting to see the fabrication needed to make it all fit.
What is the orange insulation around the oil line?
It is a protective shield. Silicone and fiberglass sheathing.
Really great, top notch work!
Thanks a lot!
I had my Bug almost a year. I like to go dual carbs, but I like to know is it worth doing does it make the engine run better or save gas? I see people do it. I’m just curious cause I would like to do it. I have a 1641 engine I was looking at you, Solex carbs, is it worth getting?
If you are looking to upgrade, I’d suggest upgrading the ignition at the same time. Stock components and just adding dual carbs works if everything else works well. 👍🏽
Yeah, I got the ignition added already I’m just trying to look for consistency. It’s my daily driver. It’s nice and clean engine, nice and clean transmission nice and clean. no oil anywhere. that’s why I was wondering if dual carburetters would help my car out. thank you for your time for helping me.
If I were to add dial carbs, I’d stay with an IDF / HPMX platform. Kadrons, Solex, ICT’s are not my favorite.
@@the_Wagenmy Squareback came with Weber 34ICT carbs and Empi components. I also have the CB manifold and crossbar linkage (not installed yet). Tell us why you don’t like these carbs. I had a set on my 75 Beetle back around 1988.
@@jimgerock9190THIS IS JUST MY OPINION. ICT carbs seem to have blown throttle shafts out of the box. Plus most single throat carbs are "sloppy". The IDF design(dual throat) revs quickly when properly tuned, and are more efficient.
The Ross Wulf parts look amazing as well. I wish they had a 356 sized alternator pulley setup. I use those to get a higher fan speed and aid in cooling.
