Heard this the other day at one of the shopping malls. I think I heard a couple of times back in the day but hearing this again made me think how it sounds like it could have been released in the last 10 years. A timeless song. So much energy, so catchy. It hasnt dated. I thought the lyrics said "spell bound and mystified".
"...You were always the one who would dance on a sheet of thin ice Always one step ahead Always holding the winning ace Thinking no-one could reach you Way up in the sky, you just looked out of place You were playing the part in the perfect disguise"
The scenes of Iva here with the band, I get visions of Bowie in Labyrinth. Iva shows such passion here, I could easily see him as an actor, maybe a super villain even. Darth Davies? lol He'd have no trouble doing versions of Bowie's tracks for sure. Maybe they were brothers in a past life.
Just one great song after another!! This song is just another superb example in a long line of hits. They owned the radio waves for ages. What a time to be apart of to witness this fabulous band!!
ice-house had 2 female persons doing backing vocals when they recorded the Code Blue album the other is Mary Azzopardi it could be her not Wendy Matthews
I really don't think heard this song by Icehouse before tonight (which is very surprising to me), but that was exactly what I thought. Almost needs trumpets and a female vocal. But it is a great song.
This song is about my wife! She to me is Miss Divine. Though I worry about her upbringing sometimes! She thought Shirley Strachan was a woman! and she took more than 10 seconds to realise who Moonface was. I almost asked for a divorce!
I basically like all of ice house's songs and when they were flowers as well.💯💯 Percent 🧞 But I DON'T know WHY this has only had really so many view's. Don't people really know music ????🧞?????
D Generation did a skit, of Peter Garret the politician being questioned about the "green house effect" which he replied " No man, its the Icehouse effect, they have far too many hits in the Top-40"
Hey yeah Hey yeah I was spellbound by Miss Divine Hey yeah Hey yeah I was spellbound by Miss Divine You were always the one who would dance on a sheet of thin ice Always one step ahead Always holding the winning ace Thinking no-one could reach you Way up in the sky, you just looked out of place You were playing the part in the perfect disguise And I was spellbound by Miss Divine You were planning the crime for the ultimate prize And I was spellbound by Miss Divine When you spoke like a poet you were reading the lines And I was spellbound by Miss Divine I believed every word of a pack of lies I was spellbound by Miss Divine You were always the one who would lead in the big town parade With the jokers and clowns as they followed your masquerade Thinking no-one could reach you Way up on the wire, you just made one mistake You were fixing your gaze on a new sacrifice And I was spellbound by Miss Divine And you looked so detached as you twisted the knife And I was spellbound by Miss Divine And you questioned your conscience by throwing the dice And I was spellbound by Miss Divine And you gave it away and you never thought twice And I was spellbound by Miss Divine And you gave it away You gave it away You gave it away You gave it away You gave it away You were playing the part in the perfect disguise You were planning the crime for the ultimate prize When you spoke like a poet you were reading the lines And I believed every word of a pack of lies Hey yeah Hey yeah I was spellbound by Miss Divine Hey yeah Hey yeah I was spellbound by Miss Divine You were fixing your gaze on a new sacrifice And you looked so detached as you twisted the knife And you questioned your conscience by throwing the dice You gave it away Yeah, you gave it away Hey yeah Hey yeah I was spellbound by Miss Divine I was tongue-tied, tantalized, mystified I was so surprised I was compromised And you know you gave it away And you know you gave it away And you know you gave it away Hey yeah Hey yeah I was spellbound by Miss Divine Hey yeah Hey yeah I was spellbound by Miss Divine...
Davies channeling Mike Scott? (Love both.) His clothes are a bit Michael Hutchence here. Sigh. Still love Iva Davies, whose moody singing marked my tween years. How. Time. Flies. Talented man.
+jadie nellie yes song is about Matilda "Tilly" Mary Devine (née Twiss) (8 September 1900 - 24 November 1970) a former crime boss in Sydney Australia. She was involved in a wide range of activities, including sly-grog and razor gangs, and prostitution.
A while ago I heard mentioned that the song was referring to Tilly Devine - a Sydney underworld figure in the 1900s. This song is mentioned on her Wikipedia page.
this song is so Bowie meets Dylan with a dash of Springsteen, all wrapped up in to something only Iva could deliver. Love it!

Brigitte Richardson
Meh. Ivor Davies is a pretty average performer in a live setting

One of my favourite songs from Icehouse.
"...You were always the one who would dance on a sheet of thin ice Always one step ahead Always holding the winning ace Thinking no-one could reach you Way up in the sky, you just looked out of place You were playing the part in the perfect disguise"
My favourite Iva Davies look!!!

The scenes of Iva here with the band, I get visions of Bowie in Labyrinth. Iva shows such passion here, I could easily see him as an actor, maybe a super villain even. Darth Davies? lol
He'd have no trouble doing versions of Bowie's tracks for sure. Maybe they were brothers in a past life.

Kate Leigh ❤💯
He's really channeling The Waterboys' Whole of the Moon isn't he?
I really don't think heard this song by Icehouse before tonight (which is very surprising to me), but that was exactly what I thought. Almost needs trumpets and a female vocal.
But it is a great song.
Listen to the Waterboys song Old England, this is completely ripped from that song.
Yes David. I heard it yesterday and thought the same. Not in bad way ( U2 had Waterboys pre curtain on their last OZ tour)
He heard ''The Whole Of The Moon'' and was very impressed. Very hard to take this seriously.
Gee this brings back memories :)
yes, yes, yes,
Great song
Aussie Bowie ❤
I like a lot this song.
Still holding the winning Ace in 2017 !!!!!!!
Great lyrics
I had the biggest crush on ivy when I was a teenager in the 90s
Hit after hit ❣️

Related to them ❤
Sold his soul
Love it!
This song is about my wife! She to me is Miss Divine. Though I worry about her upbringing sometimes! She thought Shirley Strachan was a woman! and she took more than 10 seconds to realise who Moonface was. I almost asked for a divorce!
Did you ask her about Alice Cooper and Marilyn?
Brilliant
Davies channeling the Chantoozies
I’ve never seen Iva look so spicy 🌶️ 🔥
Where have you been lol
Ice house flowers,
I basically like all of ice house's songs and when they were flowers as well.💯💯 Percent 🧞 But I DON'T know WHY this has only had really so many view's. Don't people really know music ????🧞?????
He does feel VERY Mike Scott here. Win win!
Ice house what a band they where
Iva is Mr Devine...
D Generation did a skit, of Peter Garret the politician being questioned about the "green house effect" which he replied " No man, its the Icehouse effect, they have far too many hits in the Top-40"
Channelling the Waterboys' Mike Scott 👌
Iva was "the flowers" beforehand.
Tilly divine was a awesome Sydney underworld Identity
Sucesso 🎸
Awesome story
Was Iva trying to put it out there with this beautiful song that I have adored for many years... to maybe open your eyes...
Hey yeah
Hey yeah
I was spellbound by Miss Divine
Hey yeah
Hey yeah
I was spellbound by Miss Divine
You were always the one who would dance
on a sheet of thin ice
Always one step ahead
Always holding the winning ace
Thinking no-one could reach you
Way up in the sky,
you just looked out of place
You were playing the part
in the perfect disguise
And I was spellbound by Miss Divine
You were planning the crime
for the ultimate prize
And I was spellbound by Miss Divine
When you spoke like a poet
you were reading the lines
And I was spellbound by Miss Divine
I believed every word
of a pack of lies
I was spellbound by Miss Divine
You were always the one
who would lead in the big town parade
With the jokers and clowns
as they followed your masquerade
Thinking no-one could reach you
Way up on the wire,
you just made one mistake
You were fixing your gaze
on a new sacrifice
And I was spellbound by Miss Divine
And you looked so detached
as you twisted the knife
And I was spellbound by Miss Divine
And you questioned your conscience
by throwing the dice
And I was spellbound by Miss Divine
And you gave it away
and you never thought twice
And I was spellbound by Miss Divine
And you gave it away
You gave it away
You gave it away
You gave it away
You gave it away
You were playing the part
in the perfect disguise
You were planning the crime
for the ultimate prize
When you spoke like a poet
you were reading the lines
And I believed every word
of a pack of lies
Hey yeah
Hey yeah
I was spellbound by Miss Divine
Hey yeah
Hey yeah
I was spellbound by Miss Divine
You were fixing your gaze
on a new sacrifice
And you looked so detached
as you twisted the knife
And you questioned your conscience
by throwing the dice
You gave it away
Yeah, you gave it away
Hey yeah
Hey yeah
I was spellbound by Miss Divine
I was tongue-tied, tantalized, mystified
I was so surprised
I was compromised
And you know you gave it away
And you know you gave it away
And you know you gave it away
Hey yeah
Hey yeah
I was spellbound by Miss Divine
Hey yeah
Hey yeah
I was spellbound by Miss Divine...
The trumpet player in this song is James Morrison.
Spellbound by Iva
Davies channeling Mike Scott? (Love both.) His clothes are a bit Michael Hutchence here. Sigh. Still love Iva Davies, whose moody singing marked my tween years. How. Time. Flies. Talented man.
I just made the Waterboys observation too. Never noticed till now
I came to write the same about Mike Scott sound and the imagery of Hutchence. Also the drummer makes me think of Karl Wallinger of world Party
@@IMNOTSHOUTING totally
Mint👌
Goddamn this song is awesome ❤️❤️❤️
Roger Mason on keys!
A song written about Tilly.
not a typical Icehouse this one, strongly inspired by The Waterboys, i guess.
+Piotr z Obu Tka The Waterboys, yes maybe you are right there. The chorus has a Waterboys touch to it.
YES!
The Whole of the Moon!
The Waterboys
YES!
Absolutely feeling that. Great bands, both!
When he sings, "You spoke like a poet," I can hear Mike Scott: "You came like a comet, blazing your trail."
Sounds like "Whole of the Moon" era Mike Scott.
Sounds like Iva was listening to The Waterboys when he wrote this. :)
yep you are 3rd one to mention it - and YES
My husband said the same thing when I played it.
It's a great little pop tune no doubt. Iva's personal appearance is a little alarming to say the least but that's not unusual in this business.
The song about Tilly
should have been no1
Sounds like Waterboys
Iva just kept getting even more sexy! ... even his teeth ... ffs I need a cold shower! 😂😂😂😍😍😍
Is there anything better than being an Aussie?
Not at the moment, no
Nope. Never 😉
Is this song about notorious Madame Tilly Devine?
think so..
+jadie nellie yes song is about Matilda "Tilly" Mary Devine (née Twiss) (8 September 1900 - 24 November 1970) a former crime boss in Sydney Australia. She was involved in a wide range of activities, including sly-grog and razor gangs, and prostitution.
This song is about Tilly Divine an 19hundred’s criminal in Australia.
Interesting,how so?
When are we going to get the vinyl version of Code Blue?
He seems to be developing a huge throat. John Farnham style.
Davies channeling Bowie?
Davies channelling The Waterboys, I reckon, particularly with the brass instruments and Iva's singing style.
Are they referring to Tilly Devine?
XOXOXOXOX
Anyone know who he’s singing about ?
A while ago I heard mentioned that the song was referring to Tilly Devine - a Sydney underworld figure in the 1900s. This song is mentioned on her Wikipedia page.
one bloke looks like Chip Foose
That's Simon Lloyd ...
Sounds a lot like the Waterboys...
Spellbound by mystified..
