Hey everybody, Ryan here at etrailer today on our 2024 Escape, we're going to be showing you how to install the Curt trailer hitch receiver. But before we do that, why don't you check it out and make sure that this is something that's going to work for you. So right off the bat, I do want to address one of the big questions that a lot of people ask. And that is if the hitch is going to interfere with your hands free lift gate assist, and the answer is no, it still is going to work. You're just going to have to kick your foot to either side of the hitch. So, you know, it might take you a couple of tries to kind of get used to it and kind of find that sweet spot.
But once you do the door will open up, like it should. Well with that out of the way, putting a hitch on the back of your Escape is really going to open up your opportunities on what you can use your SUV for. You know, I see a lot of these out on the road and people doing a ton of different things with them, whether it's pulling around a small trailer or using a lot of different types of accessories, like a bike rack or cargo carrier. So having this back here is going to allow you to do those different types of things and get the job done. One of the things I do like about this hitch is the appearance, you know, how it's going to look.
For the most part it's going to be completely hidden. And you're just going to be able to see the safety chain plates and your receiver tube opening as compared to some of the other hitches that you know, that whole crossbar hangs down below the bumper. Nothing wrong with those, but my thought is, if you can have one that looks better, you know, why not go with that I'm sure a lot of people would prefer to have one that's, a little more visually appealing than the others. And like I said, that's one of the things I like about it. It's also going to give us some good clearance.
So since it sits up tight against the bottom of our bumper, we're going to get a little more ground clearance out of it, as well as the bumper clearance. So the end of the receiver tube is going to be, kind of just back a little bit from the far edge of her bumper. And that's going to give us the clearance that we need to use a lot of those different type of folding accessories without really having to worry about them making contact with the back of our Ford. One thing that I do want to address, will this hitch work with different types of sub models. For example, today we have an SEL, but other people might have the titanium edition or, one that's more loaded or more of a base model and this hitch is going to be able to work with all of them.
So regardless of the cell model, you'll be able to put it on. And that kind of brings me into my next point, which is hybrid Escapes. Pretty popular, actually we see a lot of them here and this particular hitch will work with the hybrid models. So if that's the type of Escape that you have, you're going to have the confidence knowing this will bolt up. And that's not the case for all the hitches available, for the Escape. Some hitches are not designed to work with the hybrid model. So if you don't end up liking this hitch and you have a hybrid, definitely pay attention to that, when, when choosing another hitch. Make sure it is designed to work with the hybrid models. With this being a class three hitch, it is going to give us that two inch by two inch receiver tube opening. So very common size, a lot of different things will work with it. At the end, we're going to have a reinforced collar for some extra support, and it is going to use that standard five, eight pin and clip, but keep in mind, pin and clip does not come included if you need one, not really big deal. You can grab it right here at etrailer. And with the plate style, safety chain openings, all the holes are going to be, decent size and should allow us to use just about any size hook, that we might have As far as hitches weight capacities go, it's going to have a maximum gross tongue weight rating of 525 pounds. And that's going to be the amount of weight that's pushing down on the hitch, so a pretty high number actually, and you should be able to use just about any size bike rack or cargo carrier that you'd want to, for example. As far as the hitches maximum gross trailer weight rating goes, that's going to be 3,500 pounds. And that's going to be the amount of weight that is pulling on the hitch. So the weight of the trailer plus anything that you might have on it. I do always like to recommend though, it's never a bad idea to just grab your Escape's owner's manual, that way you can make sure your SUV ca
