    Rob: How's it going, everybody Rob here at etrailer.com. Today we're going to be taking a look at the Curt class three custom fit trailer hitch receiver on our 2020 Jeep Compass. Now here's what our hitch is going to look like once we have it installed. There's a really clean, almost factory appearance because, as you can see, almost all the hitch is going to be completely hidden except for the receiver tube. That's really nice, not only because it's not going to take away from the aesthetics of our Jeep, but it helps out quite a bit with ground clearance. We don't have a cross tube that's spanning from side to side below the bumper, reducing that amount.
    Again, we're only going to see that receiver tube sticking out. And if you look from the side, it's just a little bit in, so we're not going to have to worry about hitting our leg when we're walking behind our Compass.Now it is a class three, so we're going to get that two inch by two inch receiver tube opening. And it's really going to open up the doors to a lot of different accessories we can use. Obviously it is a trailer hitch. People automatically think towing a trailer, and you can.
    You can obviously put a ball mount in there, tow a trailer, no problem. But at the same time, if we want to hit the trails with some friends, we could have put a bike rack in here, carry some bikes with us, or maybe we need to go on a road trip. We need to make as much room on the inside as humanly possible, so put a cargo carrier back here, load up that, and we have more room on the inside. But regardless of how you're going to be using your hitch, all of the accessories are going to mount to the hitch pin hole here on the side.And the hitch is going to accept a standard five inch pin and clip. Now these are not going to come with the hitch, but you can find them here at etrailer.com, along with some locking devices to make sure your accessories are secure, and anti-rattle devices to cut down that annoying rattling sound coming from the back of the receiver tube.
    Now, if you are going to be towing, maybe you go to the hardware store, pick up some lumber, or maybe you're just using your trailer for fun, going down to the Lake, have a jet ski or something.Got to hook up your safety chains. And here we have a loop style welded to the bottom of the receiver tube. You can see there's a good amount of room. So even if you have some normal size, what I consider normal sized hooks, there's plenty of room to get those hooked on and take them off without having to worry about hitting the bottom of your Jeep interfering. And the same thing goes for those oversized hooks.
    I've actually got room to put both of them on there. Still have room to get them off. We're nowhere near touching the bottom of our Jeep, and the hitch pin hole is slightly offset so we have a lot of room to get everything hooked up.Now weight capacity is a pretty big thing when it comes to hitches, especially if you have something particular in mind you want to do with it. You want to make sure the hitch is going to be up to the task that you put it to. Well, our hitch is going to have a 600 pound tongue weight, that's the maximum downward force at the end of the receiver tube. To put that in perspective, you're going to be able to carry four, five, maybe even six bikes on the back of here and really maximize the carrying capacity of those large cargo carriers.Now, the hitch is also going to have a 4,000 pound gross trailer weight rating. That's how much the hitch can pull, but that does include the trailer and everything we have loaded on it. And again, those are the ratings for the hitch. So I do urge you to check your Compass's owner's manual because we don't want to exceed the manufacturer's rating.I'd like to give you a few measurements. These are going to help you when you're looking at accessories for your new hitch. From the center of the hitch pin hole to the outermost edge of the bumper, it's going to be right about four and a half inches. Now that measurement comes in handy when you're looking at folding accessories to make sure you have enough room to put them in the upright stored position and not make contact with the rear bumper.Now from the ground to the inside top edge of the receiver tube opening, it'll about 14 inches. Now at that height, I would recommend a bike rack or a cargo carrier that has a raised shank. That way we get a little bit more ground clearance out of it, and there's less worry of bottoming out. But that measurement is also going to help you out when you're looking for a ball mount so you can match it up,

    I have a 2021 jeep compass Trailhawk. I recently purchased this trailer hitch. I took it to my local jeep mechanic and lo and behold all the hardware that came with the box was useless. The 2021 jeep compass is already threaded for a trailer hitch.The mechanic had to acquire the proper bolts, and then he installed the hitch.

      The # C13363 is a confirmed fit for all models of the 2021 Jeep Compass. We're sorry you received the incorrect hardware, but we're glad to hear your mechanic was able to complete the install.

    If there are holes on the other side of the frame why not use longer screws ?

    • @etrailer
      @etrailer  3 года назад

      The manufacturer has designed this hitch to be mounted to just the one side of the frame. This is because you will be able to torque it down better without the gap of the frame.

      @@etrailer - But it is more stronger if it uses both sides of the frame.the manufacturer of the hitch recommends to do it your way? but what does the manufacture of the Vehicle says about putting a hitch.
      its more work when its done your way. is it much safer and stronger ?
      All i care is which way is better and stronger.
      there are blots that are torque good even when using both side of a frame.

      @@c19commander44 could be because of safety. If that's the reason, the manufacturer will lean more towards safety over convenience
