I agree with you that this is by far best the cover of this song. That’s why Freddie is my all rime favorite bluesman. Pretty much every blues band covers this song, but nobody covers it as well as Freddie King! His guitar and vocals
The youngest, so less respect. Saw him twice, once at Winterland with BB and once by himself in a nightclub, one of the best of all time. That said, I think Albert was the best of the three Kings.
Funny you said that, cause that’s exactly what happened to me. I heard 3 songs in a row by Freddie King and said to myself, “Damn, Ive got to learn how to play guitar.” So after being a drummer since I was a young kid, I took guitar lessons at age 30.
I totally agree with the latest comment, Freddie was probably the best of the three, raw and perfect, can’t get enough of that, I know he’s long gone but very much appreciated and never forgotten. JC
Holy crap. How I have went my whole life without ever listening to Freddie I will never know. Now I can't stop listening. The complete performer. His confidence is unbelievable
Im hearing you Paul. I hear so many players over the 70s and 80s that were influenced by Freddie. Never knew it at the time. Go figure. A true king of the blues. If you know what I mean???
Back in the day, before I was regenerated, you could get into the clubs when you were 18. Three weeks after my 18th birthday, I took my girlfriend to a club to see a blues player named Freddie King. My first time seeing live music in a setting like that, I was up close, and Freddie was a large man, almost 6'5". He seemed larger than life and was so good at what he did. I was awed. After all these years, I still have the same girl and occasionally still sneak a listen to Freddie when no one is around. Eight months after I saw him, he died of ulcers and pancreatitis. He was only 42, but had been performing for 26 years by then, and the hard life caught up with him. This video is as I remember him. It must have been made not long before he died. Enjoy things while you can. But remember, fun stuff will soon be lost to dust and cobwebs. In a little while, no one will remember Freddie, or me, or that night. Instead of focusing on old, lost things, follow the One whose words are eternal: John 6:68.
Man, this cat had it all. The total package. I only discovered him in the last five years or so, and mad at myself for not doing so earlier. You can hear about any so-called guitar hero in everything he does....only he did it first. RIP Cannonball, shame we lost you so young.

I assure you anyone who wrote that is not considered to be a source of any. Veracity and or are otherwise a bunch a no-count fucktards and prolly almost never are these individuals held in any regard Or. Perhaps attention-starved.
The great Freddie King. As others have said, underrated. No one had a better voice for the blues and he's as good as any of them on the guitar. Great track.
Freddie was technically the best guitar player of the three Kings just in terms of his dexterity and fluidity. His masterpiece "Hideaway" contains some difficult licks that the other two would have been unable to replicate. Albert King had the tone and sustain thing down. B.B. took the T-Bone Walker's pioneering guitar work to another level and graced us with numerous timeless songs. But Freddie had the flying fingers.
Can’t believe this is my 1st time hearing this guy!!! Can’t wait to listen to more.. his energy!! Just weird I didn’t hear him before.. anyone else have the same or have I been under some rock or so? 😅

He's a bluesman, not like many stations played the blues. Thanks to YT there's a lot of people hearing this music for the first time. Way back around 1975 I worked at a restaurant in the Chicago area and the guy I worked with was about 10 years older than me and always found a blues show on his old Zenith tube radio. He was the guy that told me the LED Zeppelin that I listened to was actually written by Delta bluesman. Of course you'd never know it by reading the credits on the back cover of the album but that's a whole nother story.

Freddie King made fire come out of his guitar every time he took the stage, his voice light up an audience, and kept you wanting more!! , a King of a Blues man that left us way too soon. Rip Freddie King
R.i.P. One truely giant of Blues. His guitar sound, his powerful and soulful voice, that is like the essence of the Blues, it's what Blues is all about. He's got such authority playing the way he does ..He inspired the best, hats of to such a legend..

I could write a book-and will!- on why Freddie King is the best of the 3, but they’re all spectacular. All three men had great voices and unmistakable guitar techniques; Freddie was the best because he was the most savage.
How great this is,a lesson for all in how to own a song. I saw him with Clapton and Ron Wood etc at the Crystal Palace garden party in '76. Anyone else there?
I saw home at the AWH in Austin many times but not enough. Never any shows like his. His heart pierced by the Armadillo tail was a masterpiece. I was privileged to have been a part of that in my life. What a great time to experience live music changing before your eyes.
Saw him at Ellis Auditorium (Memphis). Small crowd, everyone moved to the front and he played like it was Madison Square Garden. Superb performance ❤from a master.
I was lucky to see him live several times up close. Just an incredible performer. One performance was for about 75 in the audience...he still gave it 100% plus...wide open kicking ass. Fantastic singer as well as player...
The irony is that if he was still alive he would be a huge name ,,I'm afraid the seventies and early eighties weren't great for the blues ,mind you he would be to old but you get the idea
True. I've been playing guitar since 1955 when I was a kid in a band. We were performing for years playing rock and country and my DJ bro got a copy of Hideaway album about 61. We learned all the tunes and used them for many years. He was born about 65 miles from me. I remember when I first heard Clapton and knew 3 seconds later who he was influenced by. A great original talent for sure.

This version and SRV's alpine valley version with Robert Cray, JLV, and clapton
Is it only me who thinks Freddie is perhaps the most underrated out of the 3 kings?
he was certainly the least well known, but look at the competition!
The youngest, so less respect. Saw him twice, once at Winterland with BB and once by himself in a nightclub, one of the best of all time. That said, I think Albert was the best of the three Kings.
the king of kings
BB was the best guitar player, but I think Freddie had the better voice
Freddie was the king of blues guitar .more versatile than bb. Check out his instrumentals be was on another level .
