Ah. Nostalgia. I hope the first person I saw making this concept grew up and makes good money now. Remember the old animator vs animation videos? Like 2005? That was made in freaking flash 8. And they made a flash game
PowerPoint? I'm pretty damn sure that was made with Flash, I distinctly remember the Adobe Flash UI consistently appearing in those videos, first one included.
Rob, in the morning of the filming day, probably: yay, can't wait for a new fun day of work and not getting carpal tunnel, I wonder what we're gonna be doing today 🙂🙂
As someone who did stop-motion animation for four years, I resonate with this whole video My biggest reason for quitting stop-motion was that nothing _ever_ goes as planned. I can live with the tedium of small precise motions, I can live with accidentally bumping into the camera, I can even live with not being able to alter frames afterwards. But the thing I _cannot_ live with is the myriads of tiny complications which eventually snowball into "the entire latter half of this scene needs to be rewritten to get it to work", because nine times out of ten whatever I come up with at that point was worse than what I'd initially planned.
I've always had big respect for stop motion animators. I think I first learned how it was done as a kid and I remember just being blown away by the amount of work this takes. Of course now you have predictive programming that cuts out a lot of the work but wow!
@@darthinvaderzim no it was right 🧐 A rectangle must have 4 sides with only right angles, it is true for all squares so all squares are rectangles But squares must also have 4 sides the same lenght which is not true for most rectangles so not all rectangles are squares 🤔
I wasn't expecting a casual Ainsley voice popping in like that- you spooked me a lil bit. Really cool video- Rob was a great hand model and the animation was super fun!
In 2010 in my senior computer class we had to do a project with film. So I decided to do a stop motion with the white board at the front of the class. I tied a dry erase marker to two fishing strings with an adjustment height string and slowly moved the marker around while tapping twice on the cameras record button and drew lines at a up close of what it was drawing. And at the end of the video it zooms out to the marker spelling The End. My computer teacher still uses that video to teach his class today.
The fact he came back the next day to actually enjoy the animation is really relatable to be honest. After I’ve animated something that took a long time, I always feel like I can appreciate it more after I haven’t been staring at it for the past 3 hours.
Have you ever considered doing an animation where with every frame the animation gets more detailed? For example: you start with a stick figure an at the end there is something really epic.
Oh yeah and it was super frustrating because you have to draw each and every detail per frame and not to mention it was in 24 frame per second and the amount of mistake and undo's i did made me abandon the project
Animation has always seemed super insane to me on a creative level because you're not just working with space, you're working with time and have to be consistently aware of it's passing on almost a meta level of awareness. Just so many things to juggle artistically.
I am such a fan of the whole stick figure animation. This video was very satisfying to watch. Thanks for you and your for putting in quality time and effort.🙂

The animation turned out so great! Love this video and was really fun to see the vlog too. I know Jazza did all the drawing but Rob, hand model extraordinaire, is the star of this one.

Everyone else: That stop motion animation is amazing! Animator vs animation awesome! Me: What equation did Jazza use? Does he know that the answer is just V0W⁶?
You're telling a story with that and it's not always going the way you planned. Now you know what a writer goes through when a character starts to change the story. You always have to remember the personality of the character and sometimes event's that you put in the story cause you to go outside that and it's a whole rethink and edit. The end product is so worth it because even with the frustration, you do it because you love it. 😁👋💖
another version, with a realtime hand, and the stickfig after, means you can do alot more, have the hand out of frame many times so you can add and subtract scenes, and different attacks on each other.
I love how he showed what goes into stuff like this because most of us probably don’t care and think it’s stupid ( not me though because I do stuff like this myself)
i would LOVE to see you take on sculpting and painting an anime figure. i fully believe you could achieve results as amazing as some of the magic cube figures. i.e. the shinobu, mitsuri, and rengoku figures.
There was a website I use to love to death that had stickman games and animations. I’d spend hours laughing with my brother and watching them, fascinated by the way it worked. This video reminded me of how much I love this style, so thanks Jazza for helping me remember the things I had forgotten :)
I'm sure others have mentioned Alan Becker, but this reminded me of him. A collab between you two would be epic someday =) Also, poor Rob! I'm sure that day seemed to last forever to him.
I don't know if Rob was hamming it up for "the bit" or what but I'm actually concerned about him. Be careful with your employees and what you ask of them, Jazza! It's hard to say no to your boss, you know?
This reminds me of my second attempt with the Sketch Collab event. I was trying to do a ballerina animation but stopped part way thru to experiment with another animation idea. Of course all that hard work was trashed when my original frames got erased and was jumbled with the frames from the experiment. Had to do a new animation from scratch (on the day it was due) and barely got it done. A fascinating watch that brought back lots of memories.
1. Fricken love ya Jazza! 🤩🎨 2. A good thing I learned to do for Animations is to make a flip book because it's technically the same thing just on paper. Thats the first thing I thought of!

Exactly
Can we just take a moment to appreciate the sheer endurance Rob had? Sitting with his hand on a whiteboard for, like, ten hours
Yeah it's so much harder to sit down and move your hand a millimetre every 20 seconds than it is to draw an entire animation
