Great Showcase and reminder about using what equipment you've already got for other uses. I've used my line 6 hx stomp with other analogue pedals linked to it (as inserts). The great thing about the hx stomp is that you can switch the input to line level, so you can use it as an external insert. It also then gives you access to it's modelled pedals, amps and cabs, plus being able to add other analogue pedals in the chain.

And then, in Reaper, I use Rea Insert - with device latency adjustment, so FX track is aligned properly with the dry track. Yeah, I've been so much inspired when combining a simple (like almost initial) preset in Vital with TSE B.O.D bass pedal emulation, I got a super-classic Drum'n'Bass bass for free and using only one FX plugin. I highly recommend trying out guitar pedals/plugins on everything else other than guitars - this could sound amazing & unique! For example, adding heavily EQ/compressed/distorted/overdriven voice in parallel could work almost like a saturation/exciter for your vocals. Using hardware pedals with real audio IN/OUT configuration could get tricky, but that might help a lot too. For example, as a mobile dj I've got T.C.Electronic M350 unit, some DBX stereo compressors and even an old Drive Rack PA, but this time I'd rather use plugins for saving my time. But for a dirty unique sound I could go with them too, and this is absolutely unlimited!
I have the older mono version of this device, just one line in/out. I went from zero guitar pedals to (... counts pedals on table top ...) 16 guitar pedals in a year and i don't even play guitar, but man do i have fun getting wild sounds out of my DAW through these. I was just recently asking Lawrence Petross of LPD pedals about this very subject. I was asking about running mic pre's into pedals. He said I'd basically need a -10 db from line level (that's what an amps FX loop does.)
This was exactly what I had in mind! Nice to see someone who already do it :) I'm going to experiment myself to death with these sort of things! I'm going for connecting the pedals to a keyboard mixer to have full control over wetness between each pedal. Also to easily change between parallell/series connections. Exciting future ahead! Cool box. But why can't you just take the line out of your interface to the input of the pedals and then out of the pedals to a line in on your interface?
You can balance the outputs to the proper line input level for a pedal! This unit of course just makes it so you just send a signal from any track without having to do a set up especially for it! It's all about time, flexibility and convenience
Using my Tech 21 Sans Amp pedal in clean mode these days to increase the vibe of electric guitars and bass while tracking and loving it. It's a poor man's utility for a missing quality analog preamp 😉
The difference with and without a reamping box would be in the impedance. Can you achieve the same result without such device? For example, by switching the return input after the pedals to “instrument” instead of line?

I am new to DAW recording (using the free Studio One) and I also have an Id44. I am retired and am getting back to learning guitar. The Id44 has loop inserts on the back for channels 1&2. I inserted a fuzz pedal and it worked great for recording my guitar tracks. At this time, my only purpose for recording my guitar is to listen to my playing to improve my playing. I used to use a Yamaha MT120 4-track cassette recorder. My question is, is the Radial EXTC better than the loop back inserts on the Id44 for my situation? And why? By the way, your videos are great! Thank you!
Great video! With this reamp device, can you send a mono signal to the reamp and then come back in stereo? For example, if I wanted to print back in a stereo delay from a pedal?
I'm going to have to get one of these. I wish I still had all the pedals I've owned over the years. I should be able to get some nice saturation with my Xotic boosters and preamp pedals. I love the effect you got with the Super Octave! A Super Shifter would be cool to play around with as well. Thanks for posting!
Are you not able to just do this without the extc? As in just send the output straight to the pedals without the extc in between?? Serious question. Something to do with impedance?
this is super cool, but cant one just take the sample/ recording and just trigger it from say an MPC and send it through your pedals etc and into your interface ? i guess you would get the same result, and not really need the box
Looking at picking one of these up and I can't seem to find the answer - can you run the output of the pedals into an amp to reamp? I'm assuming you could because.... why wouldn't that work, but I'd love to know for sure!
Indeed, if you can balance the outputs to the proper line input level for a pedal! This unit of course just makes it so you just send a signal from any track without having to do a set up especially for it! It's all about time, flexibility and convenience
@@Producelikeapro I was thinking more in the lines of using software guitar pedals. Also saw a review about the unit that said it has a built-in low pass filter that rolls off at 5K which is strange but maybe works well if you are just using it in a parallel configuration like the examples you were showing in your mix.
It’s about extracting different flavors from gear that you might already own. I have more DAW grit than I could shake a stick at, but none of it sounds like my 18V Colorsound Powerboost clone or Source Audio Multiwave. A lot of us don’t bother using our pedals as outboard recording gear because they don’t all respond well to a straight-up line out signal and end up sounding like butt. Having a nice neat solution for phase, impedance, etc. for stereo realllly makes it easier to get it right and then all of a sudden you have [however many pedals you own] more outboard processors for the price of one interface thingie. You can always automate MIDI-equipped pedals if you still need that much retroactive power over would-be knob twiddles. Watching Ableton play with a couple of Meris pedals is the least-scary look into the future that I’ve ever experienced.
Its the same reason why a lot of guitarists don't use digital pedals. Analogue devices sound different and so a bring different colour. This is especially true of Fuzz, distortion, chorus,Flange and delays. Whether you like that difference is a personal choice but is a good option to have all the same.
I hope it would work with a headphone out. If so I would need to make sure I have monitors on which to listen back. Or I could just run it through my main outputs as I haven't any monitors at the minute. If it doesn't work with the headphone option I would need to upgrade my interface to integrate it.
Rob, its not a matter of I/O. You can run straight from interface to pedal, no rules!! But the radial box converts the impedance, and from balanced to unbalanced and back. This lets you makes sure that the audio you are running through the pedals is in the sweet spot for the nicest tone!
Question: Is there a way to monitor from the Radial? Unless I get a new DI box I wouldn't be able to monitor the sound while using this since I only have 1 output.
I can imagine having fun with a wah pedal with this....or maybe my EHX B9 or Mel9....and also the HX Stomp seems perfect for that box. You could use its stereo EQs & compressors instead of plugins for a different sound, its new Tape Reel effect, I could go on and on but I think the Stomp is tailor made for the EXTC. So I thought I'd enter the raffle 😆 I can't get every entry because I don't do InstaSpam or Twatter 👍

I like the new camera filming you got. Is the camera’s motion controlled with the smartphone?
I use a Ventris dual reverb on all my tracks, very nice pedal I recommend it.
Do you use this unit to mix the Ventris in? How do you incorporate it in your mix?
Are you not able to just do this without the extc? As in just send the output straight to the pedals without the extc in between??
Serious question. Something to do with impedance?
this is super cool,
but cant one just take the sample/ recording and just trigger it from say an MPC and send it through your pedals etc and into your interface ?
i guess you would get the same result, and not really need the box
I do this all the time with my H9 Max
Thanks ever so much for sharing!! Yes, H9 is amazing!
Looking at picking one of these up and I can't seem to find the answer - can you run the output of the pedals into an amp to reamp? I'm assuming you could because.... why wouldn't that work, but I'd love to know for sure!
What drum samples are they because they just sound perfect!
Is the reamp box even necessary? Newer pedals can handle mic levels.
What kind of pedals? And yes it’ll still be necessary to create your own custom chain/unique sound
@@iAmL3J3ND Boss, Strymon, JHS, Earthquaker mostly. Why for custom chains?
Kinda feel like I can do any of this in the DAW without running outboard. Thoughts?
Warren try a Gamechanger plasma coil pedal! They’re crazy and sound great on a drum buss
I LOVE that company!! Thanks ever so much
Amazing channel mate, love what you do 👍🏻
@@noelblackman7570 Thanks ever so much Noel!
Maybe a stupid question but: if it's a totally wet signal, couldn't you just have connected the pedals directly to the outs without the XTC?
Does one “need” this box to IO some pedals in to a mix if ones interface has enough IO?
Rob, its not a matter of I/O. You can run straight from interface to pedal, no rules!! But the radial box converts the impedance, and from balanced to unbalanced and back. This lets you makes sure that the audio you are running through the pedals is in the sweet spot for the nicest tone!
Those electro- harmonics pedals are awesome. B9, C9 Mel 9.Their bass Machine emulates P Basses, upright ect... Gonna check out the clone theory.
This is cool! Love the creativity!
Hi Martin! Thank you so much!
We all know what you really need to do now.
BOSS METAL ZONE!
Haha Agreed! Thanks ever so much!
You might want to try some jhs pedals for drums! And don't forget Tchad Blake's Sansamp method for drums as well!
So I thought I'd enter the raffle 😆
I can't get every entry because I don't do InstaSpam or Twatter 👍
Damn I’m gonna buy this and use it with my Eventide TimeFactor and Space
Good evening Boss! 😎👍
Thanks ever so much Nigel!
Loving this but the radial stuff is really expensive in Europe! Gotta make it work with the Palmer DACCAPO!
Just thinking the same thing! It's literally the same concept do, right?
@@brianlalor1509 Yes, you will not notice a difference in sound quality between reamp boxes. The prices differ because of practicality and features
@@NikosPage ah yes, that makes sense. The blend control and input/output are pretty useful on this Radial. However, not essential. Thank you Nikos, best wishes
@@NikosPage it's built so well though, I have never had a Radial product break...ever
@@darlenesheffield9835 If you live in the US, yes! Get a Radial. But in Europe and especially Greece with almost no way to acquire that much money from studio time, it's probably best to spend 60€ on a Palmer product. Oh and it's built like a tank too 😇
What's the minimum standard of little cables between pedals you guys would use? I just want a recommendation if you needed to buy 9 or 10. thanks!
Nice track by the way, great vocal... vive la random effects! 🤓👍

@@Producelikeapro Thanks Warren, much appreciated! 👍
hi Warren, try the Nux mg300 pedal or the Boss 001 for guitars, you can reamp thru the pedal via usb, its futuristic, that will be great content.
currently using my EXTC with my hotcake crowther distortion pedal. Does reamping immediately affect the sound without much drive going on? im struggling to apply just a little bit of distortion like I would like to
I always liked this idea but never recorded it because I can always hear too much extra noise/hum/crackling introduced?
I like this idea!
Thanks ever so much Audrey
Is there much difference from this and using their re-amp box into a di-box?
Excellent! Love it!
Hi Warren- great vid! Quick question - if I wanted to use this as a traditional reamp box to run a signal to an amp, then mic the amp and come back into my DAW, is it possible?
This is amazing! Checked Thomann now and they were out of stock. Guess these videos have an impact!
Orchid electronics should have their "Amp Interface" in stock next week, I'm getting one.
