what are you talking about, it was okay. It wasn't much of a role at all, he had a few screams, a few lines of dialogue. Hardly a challenging role at all. He has way more better roles, like adaptation, leaving las vegas, etc. etc. tons more in fact.
There is something going on in film today which I kind of refer to as "The Tyranny of Perfection", which is that on a craftsman level everything needs to be seen as utterly precise and perfect or seen as a failure. I kinda like rough edges on things you know? Sometimes I will just allow those to exist and I find those more beautiful in a way. ~ Panos Cosmatos SO much truth in this statement.
H.I. McDunnough Kubrick is to blame. But Kubrick did a lot of takes mainly cause he was never satisfied with what he got and he didn’t trust what he wanted initially.
Visionary director who doesn't think he's god, and knows he will makes mistakes, so f--- it, let's do the best we can. And he obviously can. Linus and Cage did their best. Hopefully Panos will get more chances to make similar movies, without any studio or producer interferences. This is what the guys at RLM talk about when they say indie movies are the last great movie worth seeing in cinemas.
2:00 to 4:03 Nic Cage perfectly explains the problem with the film Industry nowadays. I wish we get more films like Mandy where it just tries to be a movie without the intent of wanting to make a fortune and not having so many producers and companies getting too involve in the work that a director has a vision he wants to put on screen without anyone else meddling with it. And actors like Nic, love or hate him, is genuine. And after watching the Mandy, he totally does deserve an Oscar, same goes with the movie itself. Nic and the film not having the intent of wanting one has earned my respect even more!
I agree! Let the artists make their art, and not some suits in a conference room deciding if it’s worth viewing 💰 🤔 There a huge disconnect between art and financial profit.
Mandy is pure brilliance! The Road Warriors meets Hellraiser meets Legend meets Suspiria meets The Crow, and starring Nicolas Cage. What more could you ask for?
I love how the director doesn't seem greatly articulate but Nicholas Cage is just so into it and carries it. He's right too, Mandy was an amazing movie.
Galactus eats planet. It's believed that red's a Galactus a planet eater capable of great destruction which he later does. He eats every single one of those in the cult.
We need more movies like this. Like Mandy, Upgrade, Hereditary etc. Not that expensive that they get smothered in focus group bullshit and pussyfooting around shocking motifs, but made with love and passion.
Nicolas Cage is a talented person,we need more movies with him, he is from the best school and they don't do that quality and passion anymore, however he needs a good advisor.
G. Andrews yup. I agree. He is of a different caliber. People dislike him because they’ve been trained to like subtle performances as if that’s what makes a good performance Nicolas Cage brims with emotion and he never phones it in even when he’s in the lowest budget film.
Loved Mandy. And loved what Cage said about filmmaking, in that when you make a film without thinking about how well it will do in theaters or if anyone will like it that’s when you enjoy it most.
This film is incredible! Like nothing I've ever seen, I'm only 20 and I'm already fed up with all the similar films of today. This was fucking awesome, but yet somehow beautiful at the same time. Truly one of a kind
Borgman, Swiss army man, The Lobster, Wounds, Upstream color, Holy motors, Seven psychopaths, Paranoid park, Resolution, Buster's mal heart, The square ... Thank me later.
It’s amazing to hear that so many takes in this film were ‘oners’ Pretty much every scene IMO is a work of art in terms of content, style and colour etc The director is clearly a genius!
@@joelwoods7149 Shocked to hear anybody say that. Mandy was incredible. Blade Runner 2049 is the kind of studio-driven, dollar chasing movie that Cage and Cosmatos here malign. It was a big beautiful nothing burger.
He will be remembered for this role as well as Wild at Heart , roles in such dark films and he is amazing in them. No i didn't forget Leaving Las Vegas, Birdy and Adaptation.
People make fun of Nic Cage all the time but honestly he's a fascinating man and an actor who's truly dedicated and in love with his craft. Yes he does some cheesy movies and yes he is famous for his freakouts in films but he is a great actor and before Mandy I watched him in 8mm and it sold me on how good of an actor he really is.
Superb movie. Even choosing King Crimson for the title track just completely destabilises the viewer. Trippy and full blooded without compromise. Would love to get tarantino’s perspective on it - very well done all especially Nick Cage
They did a great job with Mandy. It's a bit like John Wick meets David Lynch meets Texas Chainsaw Massacre meets Lovecraft meets Hobo With A Shotgun. Not a bad combo!
I just have to see this. I didn't discover BtBR till it hit Netflix but I immediately knew it was awesome & bought it on blu ray as I had to have it in my collection.
Panos honestly reminds me of a young George R. R. Martin. In fact, I would love it if Panos directed GRRM's Sandkings, he would be perfect with all its crazy ideas and visuals. My god, now I made myself mad!!!! XD
Linus seems so diffrent than I thought he would be as im not familar with his work. He played the villan very well he has to be hugely mentioned without him this movie wouldn't be anywhere as good as this movie was. I throughly enjoyed it I watched it when it first came out in 2018 then again just the other day and its honestly one of my favorite movies ever if only for the originality. Ive never seen another movie remotely similar.
After watching The Viewing in cabinet of curiosities I really gotta see Mandy and Beyond The Black Rainbow. I felt that The Viewing was head and shoulders above all the other episodes, what a cinematic masterpiece! Btw good on Cage to go for stuff he believes in! We need more interesting movies.
Got Mandy in the mail today. And here it is about to be Halloween wow talk about coincidence and something unnerving all at the same time it's gonna be a good evening!
favorite part of the move:
"YOU RIPPED MY SHIRT!"
"YOU RIPPED. MY SHIRT!"

That was his favorite shirt.
YOU IN MAAA SHIIITTT
Such a wonderful and weirdly subtle nod to the fact that that was the shirt he wore when he first met mandy
Lololol 😂😂😂😂😂 same bro
Also, the same shirt she was wearing when she got kidnapped @KH-hu9sv
Mandy was absolutely incredible, hands down cage’s Best performance since wild at heart

Right on the money. Accidents occur throughout Nature. And she's an expert.

hey man i think youre on to something here
Still to this day, Mandy is a stronghold of experience and emotion, so so so damn good, everyone involved made this film a masterpiece.
Director got me with his point about the Tyranny of Perfection. Flaws should be embraced, not eliminated.
I'll always remember the Cheddar Goblin
"CRAZY EVIL!"
CHEESE GOBLIN!!
Linus Roache is brilliant AF in this movie.
Yes!!! He's so good and creepy I didn't even recognize him until I saw the credits. 😮
He was amazing in law and order
Yeah, Panos should direct an episode of Law and Order! @@8bitorgy

Not John Suspiria x The Crow is an interesting comparison I fuck with it for sure
The Cage was uncaged. Thats my review of this movie. 10/10
Looking for a trailer, found this instead, not even disappointed.
haha, same
Does a trailer even exist?, I've been looking for like a whole 5 minutes.
not yet :-/

How about Con Air 2 instead?
Yea, I had a pic of them side-by-side sooooo close.
Molossus LOL truth!
I love it, incredible
King Crimson over the opening credits was a beautiful touch...
All I can say is SEE THIS MOVIE. I did last night and it blew my freakin socks off.
Agreed it is bonkers
When it gets to Netflix, I'll see it.
One of my favorite movies of all time ever
Fantastic dark film.
i am not a heavy metal fan but a fan of Cage's early action movies. I have to say Mandy has restored Cage's full action glory
