Great video. I've been using SYR because of who owns it. I'm a huge Steeler fan. I didn't think the disparity was that great but now you've piqued my interest. Thank you.
I'm from Pittsburgh, and I remember him doing a speech at the Pittsburgh Herpetological society some 30 yrs ago! .... But that doesn't mean he's getting all my money lol
I include shipping on all animals with the exception of auctions which now is better due to the overall lower cost for shipping. The biggest benefit will be for the lower end animals and pet stuff that would cost more to ship than the animal sells for which will be huge for the lower end and colubrids etc. If I shipped from MD to Cali it was near 100 everytime if not over with MM it was a hair over 60 bucks. Not shabby.
You can also get your own commercial account and rep from FedEx and ups, and not use a 3rd party shipper. I have been shipping live animals for about 15 years now had my own accounts for many years and negotiated a contract for 85% discounts threw both FedEx and ups, but it’s a teared system and you negotiate your contract and discounts each year with them and have to have a minimum amount of boxes shipped per month to keep your discounts. I miss the days when we could ship a big box next day for 35$ from Ca to Fl. Morph market will probably have the same discount for a year then will be re evaluated by there FedEx rep and ether go down or may even go up if they ship a lot more then they had set on there contract for this year.
The reason there prices are all different is because they all have different discount % on there contracts based off how many boxes shipped and how good they were at negotiating the contract with the rep. It’s not necessarily cus one wants to profit that much more than the other but I’m sure they are still profiting something.
Snakes being shipped out of PA don't have sales tax. Unless you do 100k or 200 transactions in the state of delivery. Then you would pay that states sales tax. Just a heads up! I was doing the same thing. I was told this, didn't believe it. Called and emailed response from the state was what I just told you.
Unfortunately 2 of the last 3 snakes we’ve shipped out this month have had issues. One arrived 2 days late and alive and the other is on day 3 and lost in Memphis. RE has been in contact with us and stated they’ve been having a lot of issues with the Memphis sorting lately. Said there’s multiple missing animals they’re dealing with. Is anyone else going through the same issues currently?
There is absolutely no way it should cost $100+ to ship a snake. The average buyer sees that sticker price and runs away. I get hundreds of pounds of rodent feed delivered every month for less than it cost to ship a 400g snake that I have to go get myself at the hub downtown! The math ain’t mathing. Shipping for our industry has needed a revamping for years.
@@SNKELTD Agreed! On the pet side you have animals that are realistically too cheap to pay that kinda shipping. On the higher end breeder side you almost feel offended when asked to pay $100+ for shipping after you already spent four digits buying it.
@@Runswithfathog While yes it is high & does affect the sale; prior to any discount if anyone pulls a 2024 rate sheet & looks at the table for a 7x7x7 box with a DIM weight of 3lbs; Zone 5 through 8 will come up in the range of $103-$126. They don't look at whats in the box, just the box & service, same as if someone wanted some headphones or such in the same box, same service. You could absolutely go a different service & cheaper for something non animal but that is besides the point. The average seller especially new coming in goes to a provider (with entry discount) or FedEx direct & sees a quote then freaks. Morph is doing an entry discount as well but overall anyone as the ability to get a discount, its based on volume in many cases sure but communication is big. Best thing to do is talk to the providers. Morph will work for some people, it will not work for others & overall in the end you once it is membership based you are paying for that discount, the providers you don't so if you're paying for a discount, is it a discount.... (non sponsored content; someone that shops around, compares, have been shipping reptiles & non reptiles for a long time).
With the rodent food everywhere is different so that can be trickier but ground rates are different for sure however what are the prices compared? What I'm more referencing is I can get the rodent food used shipped "free" at $34.99 a bag it comes out to regardless of count vs local pickup at $21.50 for the pallet. Difference really comes down to count, payment method & going to get it vs it coming to me but obviously thats where the "Free shipping" bake in vs the separate rate aspect could be as seen sometimes online. Shipping sucks & its not fun. Not here to say otherwise lol. I will say this as I have seen this in other companies & the right people will understand this. The right businesses & business owners will cover themselves with the shipping expenses as well as pass the savings on to the customers at best. Shipping is not where you try to profit on someone & the sale, revenue should could from your product/service & that is where the issues arise where sometimes (it can be due to limitations at times too) you see people trying to over price stuff where other times people think stuff should be much cheaper than it is already.
Checking with someone who provides valuable info (ie if it is safe to ship) but discounting that they provide value to you for shipping doesn't compute for me. Saying that it is all just a box going through FedEx and the company behind it doesn't matter when you admit the good customer service from multiple reptile shipping companies doesn't compute for me. Glad you haven't had a delay - I had a delay with one coming in a few months back. Memphis has issues, and most of us know it. Not supporting someone who does a lot for the industry doesn't make sense to me. I'm not pointing fingers at anyone in particular. I'm not saying to support anyone in particular. I'm saying we should look at more than bottom lines. And supporting the cheapest guy on an admittedly introductory price to try to steal your business from someone else is best case scenario hurting others for no good reason. What happens when MM shipping has put someone else out of business, but then goes up to what will be their "normal" price (which we don't even know yet!)? I'll stick with someone else until I know the real price from MM. They haven't proven anything to deserve my business yet.
I hear you on supporting good businesses, but here's the thing: Customer service isn't the only thing that matters. McDonald's vs Ruth's Chris anyone? Price is a HUGE factor when you're sending out 50-100+ packages per year and there's a $30+/package difference between providers. If you're shipping smart, the likelihood that you'll ever need to use someone's "connections" is close to zero,..... and lets not assume that MorphMarket will be unable to provide the similar support if needed. Delays can happen at anytime for any reason, but it's no one's fault if you decide to ship the day a tornado tears through the area. Safe shipping is an issue that lies more on the shoulders of the shipper, and not the shipping company. I've had ZERO delays since covid. I also frequently tell my customers when it's not safe to ship on any given day due to service disruptions or weather. Not because of Redline, SYR, RE, or FedEx. But because I collect data from all sources and make an informed decision. Competition is good! It pushes everyone to be better and keeps prices fair. Is "stealing business" a fair term in a capitalistic society? Let's see what they've got before we judge! Also, I'm not a big fan of this "sheeple" consensus that everyone needs to support a certain brand; and if you don't, it's a problem. MM creating a shipping service isn't putting anyone out of business, and as consumers, I think it's mighty short-sighted to pick a shipping service based on likeability. You don't have to be friends with a business owner or agree with their views to patronize them. There's plenty of atheists that eat at Chic-Fil-A.

110%. Overnight shipping is expensive, but not $100+ expensive for a 7x7x7 box
