On the Model 7, I have two, one in 308 was always my very favorite deer rifle in NYS. I believe the barrel is 18.5 inches. Handy, light and more than accurate enough for the job. Started with an old 1.5 X 5 X 50mm cheap brand scope and was perfect in the deep woods. Later put a 3 X 9 X 50 on it for a long shot on the power lines but not necessary. But the large objective gathers light at dawn and dusk. Wood is quite good for an off the shelf gun. I bought another in 300 Rem. SAUM. I hand load for that one. Killed 1 NFLD moose and 1 SK deer with that one. Laminated stock, snappy recoil!. A steal at a Gander Mountain with a Nikon 3 X 9. Also love it. I love the old Remington triggers and adjust them myself and get them quite low (1.5-2 lb) depending on the individual gun. That is NOT for every one but I have 2 OUNCE triggers on two BR guns. I have an unusually beautiful walnut 17 Remington (full length) on a 700 BDL, 12 X Leupold. Usually does 5 under an inch if the wind isn't bad. How about an article or video on that cartridge which seems out of favor now?
My very first big game rifle was a Model 7 in 260 Remington, so it holds a special place in my heart. We actually did a video on that very rifle on this channel some time ago. Thank you for sharing your stories and your experience as well I always enjoy reading about others experience. I do have some more wildcat and obsolete cartridges in the works, we just did a short video on 6mm Remington which is a cartridge that certainly has fallen out of favor but is still a good and viable option for what it was intended. I also have some more obscure cartridges in the works but that is a ways down the road as making brass and even finding it can be a challenge for some of these cartridges. Thanks for watching! --Jeremiah
Very nice rifle! I have a Remington 700 in 221 Fireball and 17 Remington but not the 17 Fireball. One thing I always notice about shooting 17 calibers is that the group size always measures smaller than it looks because those tiny holes look farther apart than they are! Keep up the videos on varmint rifles - they are my favorites.
Thanks for video! I started with 17 Mach IV so would appreciate your load development, as the two are nearly identical. Love your channel and magazine.
Thanks for the feedback and the kind words, I think were going to have to, a lot of folks have been asking about it. I'll get started on it, though it prolly will take some time before it gets posted know that it is in the works! --Jeremiah
My .17 Fireball is built on a Model 600 action, and I've generally preferred the 20 gr. vs 25 gr. bullets, though I was sad when Berger discontinued the 30 gr. bullets. Like some other commentors below I'd like to see load workup on other bullets. My .17 Hornady Hornet is slightly more accurate, but can't match the velocity of the Fireball. As mentioned, with both you can see the impact of each shot and correct immediately (if the wind doesn't change to quickly). I prefer ball/spherical powders for loading .17 cartridges, as any extruded powder tends to bridge in the tiny .17 case necks. Eliminating that problem speeds reloading considerably and keeps the loading bench tidier.
I think you can count on a full load development video in the future, this little rifle is just too much fun to shoot and a lot of folks have been asking. I'll get started on it, though it may take some time before it gets posted on here I think it will be worth the wait. Thank you for the feedback and taking the time to watch and comment! --Jeremiah
Great video! Yes I would love to see a load development work up for the 17 fireball. BTW, I had a Remington 700 LVSF and a Model 7 in Fireballs and neither would feed and eject properly. They were both factory guns.
Very nice rifle sir. I just recently sold a beautiful model 700 bdl Chambered in 17 rem, it was by far the flattest shooting cartridge I’ve ever owned, I was handloading 25gr vmax into nosler brass and they were doing 4206fps, very very hot load tho, I backed it off too 4050fps and it was still great, I sold it because it was so hard on the barrel and it was also very finicky to load for.
well, isn't this quite the timing. im getting ready to chamber a 17 fireball. im just waiting for the pilot bushing. I had a 17fb back in 2011 and wish i never had sold it. nice rifle, that's a little gem you got there.
I have the 17 fireball in the 700 sps try the hornady 15.5 gr. Vmax through it and watch the velocity climb to 4800 fps through it. my load development is 17.5 gr. H4198 killed coyote at 400 yards with it what an awesome cartridge.
We bought it years ago from an outfit called Konig Jager, It is their SUPER BENCH I think they were based out of Texas but sadly are no longer in business. Thanks for watching and all your support and subscribing to the channel we greatly appreciate it! --Jeremiah
Had a 17 fireball but found a cooper 38 in 17 squirrel ( hornet case cut in half necked down to 17). I can shoot 20 gr bullets 3300 fps with just 6 gr of powder. 1k rounds with just 1 pound of powder, can’t beat it. Sold the fireball.
I push a 110v max/varmageddon 3500fps from older fn spr. Havnt shot game yet but man what it does to a jug…they run 3300 outta my dd5v3. All touching when I do my part. Merry Christmas j…matt
I have been shooting 17"s for 20 years, started with 17 mach 4 way back in 2000, If you have a quality match grade rifle barrel, and hand lap it with a good bore paste the barrel will not foul for tons of shots, if I use the same powder and load in my 17 fireball (benchmark barrel) it will not foul till around shot 70 to 90. Get a 17 caliber teflon coated cleaning rod and one wet patch, three patches to dry and it is clean.
Been shooting the 17 Mach IV for 20+ yrs, Cooper and Remington rifles. Remington basically cloned it for a commercial offering. Plenty of data was developed over the years for the 17 Mach IV/Fireball.
I also have a 17 Mach IV and love it, I have a cooper rifle as well, it's no doubt a favorite as well and hopefully we'll do a video on that one soon as well! Thanks for watching and sharing that! --Jeremiah
I'd be interested to har what Jeremiah thinks, but i don't know if it's necessarily about having an advantage. it does what I want it to do with less powder and recoil. I suppose you go a little longer before the barrel heats up also.
shoot's just like all the Remmington's iv ever owned, not worth a damn, the only Remington rifle that's worth a damn from the factory was there 40xb, they would shoot, that's why i switched over to savage model 12 years ago, they all shoot good and if you do get a bad one you can have a barrel made 4 it and install it yourself, i don't know what you call good but in my opinion that ain't worth a damn, if a rifle won't shoot no better than that i will sell it...

Would love to see a load development video for this cartridge. Please include a good variety of bullet options. 😊
Would Absolutely enjoy a full load workup video. One of the main reason's this channel is so great! Keep it up for 2025.
Fun really is the right way to describe that rifle. 👍
Beautiful rifle!
Merry Christmas and Happy new year Jeremiah. Would really like to see full load development for 30-06 Springfield with 24in barrel.
Sure understand you’re video…God bless you brother
Love the series, Jeremiah! But it is going to make me a frustrated rifle buyer. Too much good stuff

Looks great 😊
Wolfe publishing should entertain reprinting some of Glen zediker books. 😊
I would love to see a load development on that .17 Rem
I've heard that Ramshot Big game and Winchester 760 ate the powders to use
Would love a full load work up for the 17 fireball
Yes I would love to see a load development on a 17FB. I’ve had very good luck with TAC in 17FB

the fireball cases are one of my favorites. any plans for a 20 vartarg?

Where did you get your Bench rest shooting table?

Had to sell mine before Christmas so I could pay bills . It really hurt to loose.

How do you clean the bore on those 17s? Rods must be flimsy as hell, and I'm sure copper builds up. Just doesn't seem like a good time to me.

is that rifle bedded?
I always thought the model seven was a “supreme “ model to the 700.
No, just a short action.
If only I could somehow convert my Bmag 17WSM into a 17fireball 😢
Been shooting the 17 Mach IV for 20+ yrs, Cooper and Remington rifles. Remington basically cloned it for a commercial offering. Plenty of data was developed over the years for the 17 Mach IV/Fireball.

I always wondered...why not 17rem...why choose 17 fireball...what's the advantage?

3400 fps what grain wouldn't a 223 with 30 garin be egivelent
