@@johnseptien3138 Why not?. Brass will deform an over 65 PSI over pressure and stick to the chamber, But any modern/and old well made Actions, can handle the Press. I downloaded 7BC SAMMI specs, and it's just a bit shorter than a 280AI, Guess it could chamber in it, and you could make reloads with it(Any 30-06 Brass) at Std. press. load data. Would be fun to see if it fits the old REM Pump or Auto in 280 Rem or 30-06Anyway, not going the 7BC or 7PRC way. Will stick to the old 7RM.
@@johnseptien3138 the steel case is what's allowing the high pressures, therefor you could do it with any cartridge if you had these cases. You'd still have to play with barrel length and twist rate but with this case you can make any caliber push 80k.
6.8x51 does quicker and in a shorter casing that is still brass casing for reloading... Backcountry is just going to be overrated like pretty much every 7mm
Exactly.. and that's with FACTORY ammo. This guy is comparing his buddies hand loads to factory ammo. Far far to many assumptions and ABSOLUTELY no facts.
@LoganSmith-hz6gr Because it doesn't use 175 grain bullets... I never said that... but let's take say a .300 Win. Mag. and load it into a steel case with 80k pressure and do you think it will? bet it would hit close to 3,500. The whole key to this 7mm Backcountry is the steel casing and thus it honestly is a pretty crappy round because we have rounds that compete with it no issue in a brass case. So in a few years when other rounds start being put out in steel cases also which used to be criticized as crap rounds for a reason this round will become a backseat over hyped POS. The .280 AI is a better round the 6.8 Western is a better round. the .300 Norma is a better round. All Federal did was see the higher psi from the 6.8x51 and said let's make a cheaper version for quick sales by over hyping the round and basing it on speed. If you want a speed demon look at the .17 5.56 that does 5k fps. This round will be a pain in the ass to reload and the ammo cost for store bought will likely be over 2 bucks a shot... sorry I still think it will be an overrated hyped up round.
There are legitimate criticisms of this cartridge... I do NOT think that it being a long action is even close to being one (do you honestly think that having a .45 inch longer action is a big deal when you can shave 6-10 INCHES of barrel length off your hunting rig?).
He,He, agree, .5" longer action is Irrelevant. The 7PRC has to be chambered in a Std. 3.4" long action. The 7BC is .10" shorter than the 280AI case. Might chamber in it. I will build a 7Rem Mag in a full lengh 3.8" action for my grandson, Just to be able to seat out the longer all copper bullets. I Couldn't care less for any 7MM over 175-180 grns for hunting. My Sweet spot for 7mm is 165-168 grns for whaetever
Just to nitpick: it comes out to around 1 inch. The magazine-well is longer, and the chamber is longer. This results in a total of 2x the difference in length as lost barrel-length to accellerate the bullet. The way barrel-length is measured is typically done from the base of the case, but the bullet doesn't start accellerating from there so it's a little confusing.
Right, Most don't know they have been Proof Fired at that Press. But I downloaded SAMMI specs for the 7BC, it's just .10" shorter than the 280AI(Almost identical, you could make 7BC with any 30-06 Brass at Std load data)and might chamber in it. No Problem, but how about if it fits one of the older REM pumps and Auto in 280 or 30-06?
WELL SPOKEN, ADAM...., It's the brass. So if same alloy case material is applied to , 3006cal, 308cal , 270 cal ect, more Velocity can be obtained, without excessive pressure or burning out barrel???, Your thoughts brother?
@@eugenegress5896 Whenever you hotrod a cartridge, you eventually will accelerate barrel erosion. It's up to you, to decide how much is bad. 1000 shots-2000??. If You paper punch and shoot several 100's every month, and groups start to spread beyond whats acceptable, Then??. I have a 1917 US Enfield I got back in the 80's, with a very pitted barrel. I handloaded it to 1", Still shoots 1". But I only Hunt and sight in once in a while or try handlod development. I have a proyect to build a 7mm, most likelly a 7RM in a 3.8" mag M70 action. If I wanted to Hotrod it, would chose the 28 Nosler. The old 1917 to rebarrel to 35 Wheelen👍
@WillyK51 Thanks for the reply. I will just keep my focus and priorities, center on the Hunting opportunity I have. I agree... Hot Rod equals more wear. Most Men used a Deer rifle of certain caliber, all their life. It all depends on what you want to do . Thanks again!, 2nd AMENDMENT Brother!!
100% agree with you. Thai is why channels like backfire are great to watch because they put in the time and money to learn what they’re taking about. The backcountry podcast and Ron Spomer are just as good too. As far as the Valkyrie and the 30 super carry they have 9-10 options on midway right now. I don’t even own those much less have any attachments to the cartridges but I smelled BS so I had to check. In my humble opinion I think the 7BC had a good chance of succeeding because it fills a niche really well and one that seems to be growing
He really had no facts but a ton of assumptions! Guess he should've watched Ron Spomer and Von Benedict show as they have all that information. Joe has had a rifle in 7mm BC for almost a test and has some great, solid, factual information on the cartridge and the rifles.
@@lylewalters909 when you already have rifles for other 7mm cartridges, you have a hard time admitting when a new 7mm is better. Im pumped about the 7mm Backcountry. I have seen several videos shooting groups and they have all been getting around 3000 fps and .5-1” Moa accuracy with +170 grain bullets. Pretty damn good for a 20” barrel and factory ammo
You make some strong statement for not having all the facts. Too much assumption. If you going to get strong statement then be sure you have to fax. Don't say you like a dislike something just because you expect it's not going to work. Have facts first if you don't have to fax well don't give a pigeon until you have it
Non mag cartridge even at those pressures u wouldn’t achieve anything better than the 7mm short mag. If you want a faster 7mm-08 7mm wsm should of been your baby years ago
What's wrong with voicing legitimate concerns about new tech and new cartridges? he specifically said Federal deserves credit for innovating, but brought up some very CRUCIAL points about prior cartridges losing all support and the sale of an American company to a Czech group that may not have the American market's best interests at heart. Meaning, what if the new management group decides this cartridge is too niche and wants to shift support to something else? This is a legitimate point and I will not be an early adopter of this cartridge as a result.
If a 16 or 18 inch barrel performs well with this cartridge why would anyone be concerned with adding .75 inch because its a long action? But yes would of liked to seen it in a shorter case but maybe that's next🤞
Been proven , it has LESS RECOIL. by, YOUR presumptions this should have never happen-i have an air rifle, that scope eyed almost almost every person that wanted to shoot it! and they were thoroughly warned.how is it it kicks like a 10ga or more than a 12ga!
Wow 2.8 short action to 3.34 difference of .54in 😮Most action makers show around 2oz weight difference between their short and long. Why is it that every time a cartridge comes up it always goes against the out dated, old timer 30-06.
I think there is some substance to the lower recoil claim. Short barrel with high pressure makes a muzzle break work better. I don't think its enterly bs with the right setup.
@@440capnhookPowder charge weight factors in on recoil. It is a small percentage, but it is measurable. All of the online recoil calculators factor powder charge weight in them so you can play with them to see the difference.
I like the fact that it's a 7mm mag without having a band on the base , I do like that it's getting good numbers with such a short barrel. 3000ft out of 20" is going to flat and fast with a good amount of impact velocity. Also because it's shorter it will be easier to handle with a suppressor on the end.
So you are questioning velocity, you are questioning the recoil .. you are standing there questioning the cartridge and Federal… waving your arms holding the cartridge… Novel idea , buck … get a rifle chambered in 7mmBC and test it You ranted crap for 15 minutes Shut up till you test it !!! 😊
I would get a 24 inch barrel with a muzzle brake. A 1 in 8 twist rate. No suppressor but I always wear electronic ear suppression muffs. I like the added magazine capacity. The case is 280 Ackley Improved case model and with the aerodynamics of the 7mm caliber bullets it is a great cartridge.
@ericthered7226 Cartridge launched today. Nobody has enough rounds downrange to "know" anything. Nobody "knew" the first day that the 224 Valkrie would be a complete flop. Only time will tell.
The difference between short and long actions is very small, and not significant. A matter of 2 -3 oz., so drop that argument, and the length is also less the .5 to .7 inches, so that goes out as well.
Ron Spomer is pretty sharp. 😂 im laying here watching this video on my phone and Ron's video on my TV 😂 you and i must watch the same RUclipsrs. 😅@@craigparker4108
If its so similar to the 280 Ackley, you'll only use approx 65 grains of powder whereas your using 80+ grains of powder in a 28 Nosler with 175 gr bullets to get the same velocity. That's a significant advantage in powder usage and yes, will not recoil as much. Barrels are proofed above 120000 psi and the list of rifle manufacturers that are on board with this cartridge is extensive enough to assure me they already know exactly the upper limits of their products from the fatigue testing on their actions and barrels. Sig decided to design their 277 Fury case in a certain way to handle the 80k pressure and to also assure the case wasn't heavier than needed for military applications and having carry hundreds of rounds. Looks like Federal decided to create a new steel alloy to minimize manufacturing processes and not worry about marrying to different metals as Sig is doing. Two ways to get the same result...higher pressure. Since this new alloy can be reloaded it has to be maleable enough to do so...how many times it can will be tested I'm sure. Seems you got a burr under your saddle with Federal and Vista Outdoors...
I agree with you on the hate. I gave it a thumbs down for his no research on the round. Federal said it is reloadable, BUT the big thing is you do not anneal the case, as that will destroy the metallurgy, and allow neck splits. Just wont get as many reload per case. Throat erosion is not caused by high pressure. But, by powder burning.
Very interesting. I fell for the marketing hype from @Backfire and @Hornady on the 7PRC and I won’t again on this one…..while im still doing load development on my 7PRC I’m not very excited about the results thus far. Should have just spun up a new barrel with a faster twist rate on my 7mm REM Mag!
What hype did you fall for that didn't turn out? Just because Hornady sucks at loading it doesn't mean the caliber isn't exactly what they said it was.
Niche cartridge for western elk and mulie hunters. It will be one among many options already in use. Rifle and other ammo manufacturers will have to buy into it to make it a mainstream choice. Not being negative, but it will be an uphill climb for Federal.
As for the higher/lower recoil claim: Recoil comes from the mass of the gasses escaping out the barrel at mach 4.5 as well as the mass of the bullet. In overbore calibers (7RUM, .257 Wby, 26 Nosler, 22-250 etc) where you burn a lot of powder with relatively small bullets it can even be the MAJORITY of recoil. Adding a break/supressor tames it down very significantly in these calibers. Putting a break on a 45-70 is rarely done for the same reasons. Burning less powder at higher pressure (for the same velocity) gives lower exit pressure and lower volume of gass. This results in lower recoil.
I shoot a 28 Nosler out of a 26” barrel with 175 grain ACCUBOND LR at around 2950. Tried numerous things but just can’t seem to get the numbers others claim to get. I do find it it funny that people don’t bring something to the table point out the failures so quickly of the ones that do. 7mm PRC was a let down to me. Ballistics show 7mm has some magic, but how to get it there and beat 7mm REM Mag??? So many have hunted the magic. 280 REM, 7mm WSM, 7mm STW, 280 AI, 7mm 08, 28 Nosler, 7mm PRC. COULD THIS BE THE FIRST 7mm to push high BC projectiles and surpass the old school REM Mag? Let’s give engineers and investors a chance and see what happens
Your doing something wrong. You should be able to get that easily out of a 7 prc and that is a lot slower than a 28 nosler. If you can't get your nosler to beat a 7 mag, you shouldn't be reloading anything.
@jeremymyers5643 that long of a comment based in nothing was frustrating to read. A little harsh yes. I apologize. 28 nosler with a 26 inch barrel will send a 175 eld x over 3175 with ease. 26 inch barrel 7prc will easily get 3000. There always room for new cartridges. I can't stand it when people get mad at the very idea someone had the nerve to try to make something cool.
Im going to go out on a limb and predict they will make other cartridges. It's patented for a reason. It seems much more logical than the Sig hybrid case. Barrels are like sparkplugs to me. Laughed at, "I'm worried about barrel life...." says the guy that shoots a 28 nosler 😂 Me too. I'm afraid it won't wear out very soon. Means I'm not shooting enough. It's why I needed two. Lol
@@Winmod70300 I think he’s asking if he can use his new 7mm Back Country rifle to fire 280 Rem ammo. Example: if you have a 280 Ack Imp you can still fire 280 Rem out of that rifle and get 280AI fire formed brass. I haven’t seen the case dimensions of the new round yet.
@@14goldmedals I knew exactly what he was getting at. I’m just assuming for safety reasons that they made enough changes to it. That they weren’t interchangeable. Because Remington made some old pumped action rifles back in the 60s. They were in 280. They are not strong enough for that type of pressure. But it would be cool if you could run the 280 ammunition with a new rifle cartridge.
@ I’m a 280 Rem guy and my brother is a 280 AI guy. He used to fire 280 Rem out of his and it was more accurate than the 280 AI ammo lol. But now brass is abundant so he doesn’t need to.
First factory available cartridge to shoot a 170 2900 with a 16" barrel, with less than 65grains of powder. First cartridge available to the public capable of handling high pressures, with potential for reloading. Brass case head technology is the same since the 7.62x54d was designed in 1891. This gives rise to unchievable velocity potential for all calibers, if this case technology is applied to them. Lets hope it works, instead of shitting on totally game changing technology.
100% agreed. The limits of traditional technology and materials seem to be found with brass cases and normal powders. Hence the extreme marketing of so many “innovative” new cartridges that show marginal differences at best over traditional options. This leap that has taken place with both the .277 Fury and the 7 BC is the first true “next step” in technology. It’s based off of a push from the US military to gain performance out of shorter barreled rifles, and is likely to stick around from that aspect. Will it take over the civilian firearm industry? Only time will tell. If history has proven anything, it’s that trends in military small arms technology tend to trickle down into the civilian market and have a lasting effect.
Did I hear this correctly, "It is of some concern to me that this cartridge is just being chambered in existing rifles that have not been designed to handle these sorts of high pressures?" I am not aware of any existing rifles in 7mm Backcountry as this is a brand-new cartridge. If new rifle designs are needed, I suppose manufacturers will make their rifles to accommodate the higher pressures. Perhaps I misunderstood.
3:00 As an experienced shooter and reloader, you should clarify the total ejecta (bullet + POWDER) are the mass being used in the equation for felt recoil, which makes their claim, at least, plausible. Also, at 5:45 you're talking about guns not being able to take the pressures. Almost all modern actions are tested much higher than 80k psi, brass is always the limiting factor, but yes, endurance is a question at this point. The concern about the international sale and the gunmakers/federal warantee question is legitimate. But look man, I get it, always challenge the marketing upon the release of the new hotness, but as an experienced shooter some of your critiques dont add up. Please don't think I'm dumping all negativity, thank you for being the first/only early testers with cautionary words vs everyone else that is claiming it is the greatest thing since sliced bread (which, as shooters, we hope it is)
Do U really think they use sub par rifles, shoot 200 rounds and pat them selfs to back? Why make new cartiridge? So that idiots dont blow they old rifles maybe? Maybe U should find out they test procedure? Is medium so much longer than short that it negates all? U forgot to mention that bras returns close original dimensions after pressure relieve. Steel dont.
I will have to keep watching this 80 000 psi issue, I have the 325WSM 200GRN NAB AT 2900FPS, so I will keep watching this technology. Thank you for relaying this innovative information. The future may be bold.
The big issue is will it be supported long term? Will Federal supply and make brass and primer components available? Thats the issue more than anything. Ive played the new cartridge trend with 300WSM and 338RCM and basically been burned. Ill stick with 270win 308win and 30-06 until the new developments are well supplied and available. Time will tell.
Ugh, gun reviewers are the worst. "I don't think this will blah blah blah" yes this multi billion dollar company with all its fancy engineers got it all wrong. Its not wolf ammo steel.... Its not a Magnum...standard bolt face 28 nosler has 20+ grain more powder and longer barrels Long Action adds oz's and less than in inch....dont forget you get to chop off 10in of barrel.... Yes your handloads are spicy, this is factory ammo off the shelf.... How about you shoot the round and experience the performance Not spew ramdom crap from your "experience"
@@NELLY-jg2rx time will tell. I hope you're right, but Federal recent history with these new innovative cartridges (224 valkyrie, 30 super carry to name a couple) isn't exactly impressive.
It is claimed that since rifles are already overbuilt to handle 65,000 psi magnum cartridges, they can also handle 80,000 psi with no modifications. However, it would stand to reason that they can handle fewer "proof loads" of 80,000 psi than they can of 65,000 psi. You'd think their parts would fatigue sooner, creating possible dangers. Bottom line: I'd rather get performance from high B.C. bullets at standard chamber pressures, but I am truly excited about this new steel-case technology. Use it in every current cartridge!
Ron spoomer has a very good video up comparing case sizes, and with some real world data to back it up. It is very close to 280ai dimensions, but a tad shorter to accommodate heavy for caliber bullets. Federal is offering a 195 factory load 😬
@esninak5492 yes, he does I am specifically wanting 7mm Backcountry (officially released yesterday) compared to the 280AI. Reloading manuals not have any deminsional information yet.
I'm pretty sure that this is going to be the first among many new cartridges like this. But only time will tell‼️ Thanks for your take on the cartridge because we do need to look at it from every angle!
Recoil is less because it is using less powder. Just because a 170gr bullet recoils a lot in one cartridge doesn't mean it is going to recoil the same in another because of how much powder is used. It uses a fast burning powder to get the high pressure and velocity. Which in turn you can use less powder because of that, less recoil.
You're getting less recoil and longer barrel life. The 28 N is notorious for burning out barrels. Backfire was getting 2,900fps in a 16in barrel. That's phenomenal.
Modern rifles are not maid for 80k psi, that's why you get a hard bolt lift when you shoot hot hand loads. My main concern would be primers blowing out under that kind of pressure. I agree that high psi is the way we need to go but first do some design changes to all the major components, not just a steel case and away we go!
I think sig has done it right. I know it must take a lot to do but I wish they could make all the cartridges that we have now able to handle 80,000 psi. Marry the steel to the brass so that we can use the same cartridges we love with optimum performance and won’t have problems reloading. Imagine the Hornady prc cartridges with this design!!! Let the bullet hang out to lessen pressure and push heavier bullets faster, but if they could handle 80,000 psi now you’ve got the most optimal design paired with extreme performance.
If they put this new technology into existing cases like 300 prc 7mm prc 28 nosler ect everything gose up 150-200 fps a 28 nosler shooting a 195 eol at 3300 fps would be deadly i was doing it at 3100 at it was deadly.
I like it. Even though I'm not going to buy one. This could lead to smaller cartridges shooting higher pressures. New faster, flatter ammo for the same calibers you already own. This is basically what you are seeking. Only time will tell.
that is funny I know of several action makers that offer medium actions lol. Also you should go watch ultimate reloaders video called pushing 308 win to 300 mag velocities..lol they show proper brass cases from alpha munitions firing loads at 100kpsi with brass cases lol. actions were fine. At 80kpsi they are still reloadable.
I appreciate your concerns about this ammo. I see no reason that anyone should hang a silencer on a hunting rifle. It causes the barrel to flex more. For tactical use, silencers have a purpose but no need for general hunting.
You think a 18" barrel with a suppressor flexes more than a 24" standard barrel? So you like blowing your ears out? Ever predator hunt? nice being able to shoot a coyote and have the other 2 keep coming.
You obviously have never hunted suppressed. It can make many rifles more accurate. And, many competition officials are requiring suppressors to prevent hearing loss and concussion damage.
Wile I agree with most of what you said, your statements about long actions negating the shorter barrel thing is severely misplaced. a long action adds ~.5" to what would otherwise be a short action. I'm not sure anybody is claiming this will do something in a XX.0 inch barrel that that other thing requires a XX.5" barrel. My biggest selling point behind short actions is that I can easily build AR10 uppers for them, and I wouldn't do that with an 80K PSI round.
Here’s a thing you didn’t think of. An action that’s an inch longer, in no way, negates 4-6” of barrel. Also, skinner cartridges can be stacked deeper in a mag. I’m not defending this cartridge. I’m certainly not defending Federal. Just saying. A long action ain’t even close to 4-6” longer than a short. FYI, all Tikkas are long action. Just with different bolt stops. So, plenty, plenty of support for the Baretta family of rifles. And, again, more rounds per mag. Maybe poopoo it’s accuracy and not its practicality
Wait if its a 30.06 case necked down to 7mm with more shoulder angle is that not just a 270 ackley improved only way higher pressure. Like im asking honestly
The standard diameter cartridge makes for thicker chamber walls when used in a magnum action, simplifying the changeover. ("Magnum" is a term derived from double-size champagne bottles so by definition means "greater volume".) Higher pressure contained in a standard case reduces overbore capacity shortcomings, allowing a high expansion ratio and presumably longer barrel life. Hooray for Federal! PO Ackley would be proud.
So this is basically the old 280 Remington but with a little more pressure and designed to shoot a heavier bullet. If I remember right my 280 hand loads with a nosler 168g was going around 2975 out of my Remington 700 with a 20” barrel.
This case is the next evolution in hunting cartridge technology. No question. Sure, some kinks will have to be ironed out, but the juice will be worth the squeeze in the end. Federal made the correct decision with this chambering in my opinion. This is better than 28 Nosler performance (because of less recoil and throat erosion, yes there is less recoil and throat erosion because of less powder burn) in a .280 Remington case. That's hard to argue with. You can comfortably hunt anything in North America with a short-barreled and lightweight rifle given those specifications.
Calling b******* on their recoil claims without actually shooting it seen all I need to see in this video. Next! If you're going to try and expose flaws Inn something you actually need to try it lol
As far as the lighter Recoil goes I can definitely buy into that. The bullet is only half the equation. The other half of the equation is the powder burn. If there's less powder being burned even if it's under higher pressure it's still less gases coming out the end of the gun.
The case is a mixed alloy and it has a fast burning mixture of powder and it takes less powder to make those pressures and makes less recoil. That's how it's being advertised
I feel like the steel alloy case is the big advancement, if it works like I hope it will change all ammunition productions. Just as he said it will push 6.5 Creedmoor to 6.5 PRC, the same could be done with 308 Winchester pushing long heavy bullets into 300 Win Mag speeds. Every cartridge could be improved with the case material switch. It seems to me like this has the chance to change the industry, I guess we will see.
I have seen this round tested on Ron Spomer and Backfire channels, so far. Looks good in their testing. The steel case and high pressure seems like an odd combination, but only time will tell. So far, I’m very interested in it, but I’m gonna wait a while to see if it shakes out, before buying one.
Bro, once You spoke about what JD Vance wrote I lost all respect for that cartridge. Hornady did it right with efficient effective cartridges. Speed kills in car accidents accuracy kills in hunting.
@@onebadjack1313 , I don't know why you don't think it will be an awesome cartridge. A little time will tell. From what's been seen so far, it's better than the 7 PRC. The 7 PRC is the one that's not living up to the hype.
@@ericthered7226 i want to reload it, I don't care about factory loadings. There are no dies and it doesn't seem like they'll be coming anytime soon. Just a guess, but I'd be willing to bet that those cases will be damn expensive whenever they decide to release some. I'm getting a new action soon and i dont want to wait for them. Plus, I dont really want to use Federal brass/steel cases. If it's true that they're keeping the case metallurgy proprietary then that's another big negative. It's early, maybe alpha or someone will make "brass" for it or maybe Federal will not keep the name copyright and case tech so close to the vest. It sounds like the 50 beowolf, 12.7x42 naming convention all over again. That just leaves a bad taste in my mouth for a manufacturer. If it turns out to be some Uber accurate cartridge, doesn't burn barrels, there are quality cases, and it is found to be safe in normal actions then maybe I'll put together a 20". I'm either going the 25x47/6GT range or 300/7PRC, im leaning towards the smaller charge weight with powder prices as they are. I like new tech, cartridges, I'm not a brand guy. If it's that good then time will show us either way.
Very intriguing conversation about the purchase of the Federal sale to international company. Even here in New Zealand I see that as being a bad idea. USA has been great for the New Zealand hunting community, would like to see security in our supply of reloading consumables from trustworthy countries.
The pressure allows you to get velocity with less powder capacity which could in turn effect recoil because you also have less propellant. And guys, we can criticize without being cruel.
I live in florida and im 61. I hunt wirh a 300blk for walkin around hunting or a 6.5 grendel ar for tree stands. No more lugging big guns through the swamp! 😂 good video and you got some valid points. I have no use for something like that. I have a blr 7mm-08 that took a bull elk if i need it.
It's not based directly on the .30.06. They specifically said they wanted to improve the 7 PRC. And they said lower recoil than 7 PRC. There are other factors that go into felt recoil than bullet weight and velocity.
I think it’s interesting and I think you make some great points. It’s likely the direction the industry is heading. I agree, I think where they can really make a big difference is offering this ammo for available chamberings. A 6.5 creed with 6.5 prc performance Or a 308 with 300 mag
When it comes to firearms I never rush out to get the latest greatest new thing. I don’t have the money to cover a bad purchase. I’ll let others test the waters and see how it all plays out. At 65 I’ve seen to many firearms and ammunition products die a quick death.
Assuming it can actually be accurate. I'd get real excited when they come out with a steel -06 case and length in a 338 that can push a 265 ablr or 270 eldx at 2750 to 2800.
You forgot the 338 Federal. This will not fly this is a military cartridge for civilians. The big thing you pointed out here that now this cez company owns our small arm manufacturing primers brass great how do we let this happen
Beating a 7mm magnum out of a 6 inch shorter barrel with a standard sized action and diameter with a extra round in the mag. Seems like a winner make one in 30 cal.
2 things i dont understand . #1 Why use a solid steel case ? As we all know, Steel case ammo is extremely hard on your receiver ,action, bolt & bolt face, and chamber . #2 Why they didn't use a true short action. Like the SAUM or WSM size case . Their's only one way to truly have a shot action light short barrel rifle with good horse power for heavy bullets. That's to use a short FAT cartridge. We built a few using the 408 chey-tac & 500 Jeffery. It's like the WSM, but with a fatter case/cartridge. That gives us RUM velocity and performance in a true short action rifle. Their has not been an improvement on the current brass case cartridge in over 100 years . Except for changing the degree of the sholders on the cartridge. If they wanted to make a true improvement. Why not use our advanced technologies and materials to create a better cartridge that can handle higher pressures . Let me explain. Take the 6.5-CM 140gr current case and pressures 22in barrel 2750fps. Thake that same 6.5-CM case that can handle 80,000 PSI now that 140gr bullet 22in barrel 3000+FPS game changer . All of these manufacturers keep trying to reinvent the wheel, so we keep going in circles . What's the main difference between the 7-Rem mag mag 7-SAUM 7-WSM & 7-PRC ? With a 180gr bullet, maybe 100-fps that's not too impressive. All 4 of these calibers or cartridges are almost ballistically identical. The only real différences are that the SAUM & WSM are short action, and the 7-Rem mag and 7-PRC are long action . They are really on to something with the 277-Fury . Having the steel alloy base and brass upper and handle 80,000 PSI. We need to create a new line of cases across the board for all current cartridges and components . That would make a dramatic improvement , would be a game changer. To bring velocity and performance to the next level . People nowadays are sooo overly recoil sensitive. It's ridiculous how much grown men cay about recoil, heavy rifle, and long barrels. Some old school for you. You can't have your cake and eat it too. No pain, no gain . With great power comes great sacrifice. Heavy bullets equals heavy recoil theirs no way around that . God bless you and your family.God bless america 🇺🇸🇨🇱 🇺🇲 🇨🇱 🇺🇲🇨🇱🇺🇲🇨🇱.
Great video, everyone else wants to drink the Kool-Aid with the 7mm BC. How much does the wheel of the 7mm need to be reinvented. And you are also spot on with the sale of Vista, never should have happened.
Everyone is entitled to an opinion… Federal appears to be directly trying to compete against other 7mm magnums and there are dozens of rifles from multiple manufacturers that are being offered at launch. Surely they’ve tested the crap out of this and none of them would be onboard if their products were insufficient? Time will tell. I think the only valid/potential issue that is raised here is about foreign ownership of the company that owns Federal.
With the advances in optics technology why do we need this? 280AI on super steroids when 98% of people don't even have the ability to take advantage of that cartridge.
From what I’ve gathered, it’s about the same velocity and energy using a 16” barrel that the 6.8 Western achieves in a 20” barrel. That’s honestly pretty damn impressive. At the same time, I really don’t mind packing a 20” rifle around either. Mine is very light weight already. I’ve spent about $10K on new cartridges, reloading, and rifles in the last 4 years. Creedmoor, PRC, and the Western. So as impressive as this new cartridge is, I’m done spending money. I can just see me going out and buying this, only to have something new and greater that comes out in a few years. The hunting industry has figured out, we’re a bunch of money spending lunatics (speaking for myself) and they’re making a killing on us. I’m extremely happy with both my PRC, and especially my Western. I’di didn’t already own these rifles, then I’d be all over this new cartridge. For now, I think I’m good for awhile 👍
Less powder in the case = less pressure in the chamber and bolt. Less recoil. Look at Ron Spomers video on this and you can tell less recoil. The Backcountry series is a series and there will be other calibers coming chill out and take a breath.
They test the chambers at over double the current 65000 psi range..... less powder that is faster burning means less powder burn in throat and down barrel...hence less erosion of barrel. I think this is going to be new thing of future.... what is stop someone from loading this with 30-06, 270, 308, etc if their steel alloy is indeed able to be handloaded. Time will tell...
Great video about this. I am concerned about this CSG sale. Thanks for enlightening me. I did not know about their nefarious nature. I have been hunting with Terminal Ascents in my 308 since they came out. Super great bullet. But I think I am going to switch to the Nosler offerings for my hunting needs. I would rather give my hard earned deniro to those Americans up in Oregon instead of some shady Europeans.
2,900+ FPS With a 175 grain pill out of a 16” barrel sounds pretty good to me.
It's not the bullet it's the case. With this steel alloy you could basically do this with any cartridge.

Federal isn't claiming that with a 175
Backfire shot a 16 inch barrel going just over 2900 fps that is legit enough for me.

@@Mr.Constitutionalist427 277 fury won't come close to launching a 175 at 2900 from a 16 in barrel
From a standard 24 inch barrel, it is only 4 inches shorter, not 6 to 10....go figure.
@@DenntGriffin You can cut it down to 16 and still get incredible performance. Many people will do just that.
Exactly! Not a deal-breaker. Not even close.
Most modern rifles are more than capable of handling 120,000 psi. 80,000 is very doable. It's the brass that can't take the pressure.
The primer is even more soft than the brass case and it will blow out
WELL SPOKEN, ADAM...., It's the brass. So if same alloy case material is applied to , 3006cal, 308cal , 270 cal ect, more Velocity can be obtained, without excessive pressure or burning out barrel???, Your thoughts brother?

For hunting I don’t think we need more capacity to be honest. But a steel case 7 SAUM….
I still can't get over people whining over a long action.
Probably because he's being paid to shit on it.

Also has to do with a lighter powder charge.

@davidfrye7713 Yes. I wish he'd quite calling it "steel". Learn something about the difference of various metals and plain "steel" alloy.
@@440capnhookPowder charge weight factors in on recoil. It is a small percentage, but it is measurable. All of the online recoil calculators factor powder charge weight in them so you can play with them to see the difference.
Powder weight is more than 1/3 of the recoil. It will have way less recoil because there is less powder. Pressure does not play a part in recoil

Ohhhh you want a railgun.
I like the fact that it's a 7mm mag without having a band on the base , I do like that it's getting good numbers with such a short barrel. 3000ft out of 20" is going to flat and fast with a good amount of impact velocity. Also because it's shorter it will be easier to handle with a suppressor on the end.

7mm mag has been proven over PRC time and time again. Got to clean the chamber much more on a PRC.
@@MatthewKyle-sg5uo a lil harsh, lol. But yeah I'm not sure how 7mag is top dog in his book.
@jeremymyers5643 that long of a comment based in nothing was frustrating to read. A little harsh yes. I can't stand it when people get mad at the very idea someone had the nerve to try to make something cool.
Im going to go out on a limb and predict they will make other cartridges. It's patented for a reason. It seems much more logical than the Sig hybrid case. Barrels are like sparkplugs to me.
👍
The big issue is will it be supported long term? Will Federal supply and make brass and primer components available? Thats the issue more than anything.
Please show that cartridge to a 280 Ackley Improved, as I am looking at the case. The visual looks to very similar.
How does it compare to the Remington 7mm magnum round? It looks very different!!
Same performance but in a 4-6” shorter barrel
Looked like pretty tame recoil on backfires review. This dude apparently didn't shoot it.
watch Backfire. He shoots it, and compares to to other rounds recoil and velocity
You're getting less recoil and longer barrel life. The 28 N is notorious for burning out barrels. Backfire was getting 2,900fps in a 16in barrel. That's phenomenal.
I don't believe much Backfire is saying. Just Sayin!
@@davidwarren3433, you think his chronograph is rigged?
@davidwarren3433 lol it's not him saying it. His Garmin shows it. It a fact.
@@davidwarren3433, you think his chronograph is rigged?
Barrel life will be even worse than 28 nos pressure burns barrels higher pressure the hotter the powder will burn
Alpha ocd ftw
@@onebadjack1313 you betcha!
All valid points 👍👍 I am glad I watched your video.
So why not use this steel casing on what we already have and know. 30-06, 270, 25-06, 7mm-08, ect?
Would be nice to see.
They might, no one said that was off the table.
Still not retiring my old 30-06
This case is the next evolution in hunting cartridge technology.
If steel case can get velocity increases that can have standard cartridges competing with magnums. That could be the hot new trend for the future.
Soooooo basically a 7mm mag plus P?
Federal is designing this tech for older rounds as well
Bro, once You spoke about what JD Vance wrote I lost all respect for that cartridge. Hornady did it right with efficient effective cartridges. Speed kills in car accidents accuracy kills in hunting.
I so wanted this to be an awesome cartridge. The 7prc has been on my radar.
@@onebadjack1313 , I understand. It'll be a while before we really see how it does and it'll for sure be a while before components are available.
Steel cartridge, high pressure, 7mm mag speed out of a 20” barrel
I live in florida and im 61. I hunt wirh a 300blk for walkin around hunting or a 6.5 grendel ar for tree stands. No more lugging big guns through the swamp! 😂 good video and you got some valid points. I have no use for something like that. I have a blr 7mm-08 that took a bull elk if i need it.
It's not based directly on the .30.06. They specifically said they wanted to improve the 7 PRC. And they said lower recoil than 7 PRC. There are other factors that go into felt recoil than bullet weight and velocity.
I want to see if we can shorten it into a 7mm08 or 308 case. Imagin a 308 shootin a 175gr or 200 gr at around 2800 fps lol
Will these high pressure designs be in the sub-magnum shorts games like PRS and King of XXX?
I thought you 5,000 yard Billy Bob deer hunter types would be creaming all over this new round. Anything but another damn Creedmoore for me. 😊
I think it’s interesting and I think you make some great points. It’s likely the direction the industry is heading. I agree, I think where they can really make a big difference is offering this ammo for available chamberings. A 6.5 creed with 6.5 prc performance
Or a 308 with 300 mag
The bigger story is there has been a bill drawn up to abolish the ATF!
yeah they are putting the cart before the horse again... NFA is what needs to be abolished first.
This blows all other 7mm away ill be getting it
You forgot the 338 Federal.
@@jeremystyron9721 , what's the advantage of a short action over a standard action?

Great video, everyone else wants to drink the Kool-Aid with the 7mm BC. How much does the wheel of the 7mm need to be reinvented. And you are also spot on with the sale of Vista, never should have happened.
Everyone is entitled to an opinion…
Federal appears to be directly trying to compete against other 7mm magnums and there are dozens of rifles from multiple manufacturers that are being offered at launch.
How do you have 150k subs lol
🤣🤣
Nothing a 7mmRM won’t do. 1/8 twist barrels open a lot of options for the 7rm.
Thanks for your effort mate.
Wonder if it'll be like the 338 Federal? Can't hardly find ammo, wonder if it's better than a 6.8 Western?
Since they’re trying to save weight by using a shorter barrel they should have also used a short-action cartridge like a 284 and not the 280.
