Not even a teenager yet but i like watching these type of videos! It helps me prepare for my future class!
It’s really great to see examples of what you’re teaching. I love the mystery number game. Mine are between 7-9 years but I could definitely adapt it for them. 😊
Yes you can definitely vary the difficulty by using different numbers and giving different clue! Just a fun warm up activity!
I loved the strategies you used for small group! I’m a former Kindergarten teacher and just learned I’ve been moved to First grade next year and I’ve been searching ideas. I came across your vlog and I’m loving what I’m seeing. Great job and thank you so much for your tips 😉 I’ll definitely keep watching 👋🏻
So glad it is all helpful!! Best of luck as you switch grades!!
An idea for walking in the hall that might help.. something I always did when I taught second grade (at a title one school) is have a class job be the "Line Monitor." That person used a mini notepad and pen that hung around their neck and walked beside the line. They wrote down three kids' names going and coming back that we're walking quietly. (Didn't matter how they spelled the names as long as they knew who they were) I reinforced they weren't to only choose their friends and if someone they wrote down started talking, they cross them off and write someone else. When we'd come back to the room they'd have six names and set a skittle on the desk of each of the six. It seriously worked like magic. I'd say things when we were walking like, "oh I see so many for so and so to choose from today!" Or "So and so, remember, if someone starts talking, choose someone else." The line monitor changed each week and their "tools" (pad/pen to hang around neck) were kept by the front door for them to grab each time we left the room.
This is such a great idea!! Perfect to add an extra classroom job!
It's so helpful to see you model the activities! Thank you for taking the time to do this ^^
So glad it is helpful!!
Thanks for sharing and talking us through the whole-group Mystery Number game and small group activities! Also really enjoying that you're splitting your weekly vlogs into two more detailed parts. :)
So glad you enjoyed seeing more or the teachy parts!! Hopefully I’ll be able to make more long/split vlogs these last few weeks of school!
So helpful to see how you do small groups and math, thankvyou for demonstrating!!! This newbie is so grateful!
So glad it was helpful for you!!
I love watching your vlogs. I love all of the tips and hearing what you are working on in your small groups. I will be playing mystery number with my students. Thanks for sharing so many details.
You are so welcome!! I hope they enjoy it as much as my class did!
I am a first year first grade teacher and love your videos! Thank you for sharing so many teaching tips and scenarios!
Thanks for watching!!
I love your videos! I learn SO much about how to help kids learn various subjects. I use it for my own kids for homeschooling, but I'm also a pre-service elementary ed teacher and I take lots of notes on ideas to use in the future!
Aww I am so glad it is helpful for you!!
Love your videos, Katie! As a 2nd year teacher, I have learned a lot from you.
I'm so glad!! Thanks for watching!
Thank you for sharing how you do your small groups. I am learning so much from your videos. Please keep sharing.
You are so welcome!! Glad it is helpful!!
This is so helpful, I have taught English for the rest of my life until this year, I try something different, I become a homeroom teacher and also Math teacher for grade 1. I love your insights stories and tips. Thanks a lot :)
I am very impressed with the upside writing.
It's a skill for sure hahahaha
I just found your videos and you are officially my new favorite teacher youtuber!!!
Aww you are so sweet!! 🥲
Great video! Love the mystery number game!
Thanks for watching!!
I plan on moving down to 1st next year so I have been watching tons of 1st grade teacher vlogs. I really enjoy yours. Thanks for sharing all the details of your day. Is there a video where you go more into detail about how you do math journals?
Yes! Here is the link! I mention it in the first 10 minutes of this vlog: ruclips.net/video/Yyps3SyVktM/видео.html
This video was so helpful!
Glad it was helpful!!
Really enjoy your vlogs. Very inspiring. I was wondering if you could share your / your school's process on baselining your students. Thank you
What do you mean by baselining?
Thanks for showing how to play mystery number. I’ve heard of it but didn’t know how it is played. 🙂
Of course!!
Hi Katie! I love your vlogs! The ring on your right hand is really pretty. I was just wondering where you got it. Thanks!
Aww thank you!! It’s actually my class ring from Auburn University! It’s the “dinner plate” Balfour ring style
@@mrs_katie_in_elementary it’s very pretty! Thanks Katie!
Monkey has the closed syllable but the key part is a vowel team syllable not open
Loved the math game
Thank youuuuu! We were just covering open and closed so I didn't want to get into the vowel team, CVCe, r-controlled, and all the rest and overwhelm them! I have taught /ey/ as a vowel team in phonics, next time I won't classify it as a open syllable when doing syllable practice :)
@@mrs_katie_in_elementary no worries!
Thanks for the google slides tip...I'm now "fixing" my slides too; Those poor 6 year olds can never grab it just right! :)
It’s a struggle hahaha! Glad this was helpful!
1. loving your videos! From the title I thought you meant you filmed teaching your kids. I was so excited. Regardless, I feel like you do a great job explaining how you teach the material.
2. Do you have a link for the open/closed syllable monster sort for center?
3. Thanks for the whole group slide tip. It’s so annoying when the kids can’t drag something lol
Per my teaching contract and just for privacy reasons filming during actual lessons with my students is not something I am comfortable with, but I do want to try to give you a better glimpse of what my teaching style is like! Glad the Google slide tip was helpful! It can be a pain sometimes but overall slides help my day go WAYYY better! Here is the monster resource link: blog.allaboutlearningpress.com/open-and-closed-syllables/
@@mrs_katie_in_elementary I totally get that! Thanks for the link! 🥰
Just subscribed! Thanks for sharing your great ideas. I will be a second year kindergarten teacher in the fall. Your classroom set up and tips are helpful as I prep/plan this summer. Please share the teen number printable website. I want to add it to my math stations. Thanks 😊
Congrats on finishing your first year!! I added the link to the description but here it is: www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Teen-Numbers-Book-5918934
As a Teacher i can relate lol class can be hard sometimes
What are you using for an eraser? Do you wash them at the end of the year or get new ones?
They are face scrubbers from the dollar tree! I wash them problem every 2 months or so! Here is a link to the same ones on Amazon: www.amazon.com/Microfiber-Facial-Scrubbers-Random-Colors/dp/B013LIGL50/ref=asc_df_B013LIGL50/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=312078624898&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=2671091282898205456&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9011573&hvtargid=pla-569300415042&psc=1
I found mine in the store at Dollar Tree
Can you link the teen number resource? I looked but couldn’t find it. Thank you! Love your videos!
Yes here it is! www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Teen-Numbers-Book-5918934
Happy Wednesday 🥰
Happy Wednesday!! Thanks for watching!!
I knew you were in a Florida school when I saw the yellow line on the sidewalk. Hahaha. We had yellow and red lines at a school I was at. We called them ketchup and mustard. Ketchup was one direction and mustard was another.
ahhh the yellow lines hahaha
Is that a smart board or smart tv? Would you recommend that we buy one (out of pocket) if our school doesn't have one?
It is a smart board! I definitely don't think you should have to pay for one out of pocket... I love mine but I could do without if needed, would just have to adjust! You might consider writing a grant to get one? They can be pricey
Where did you get the white board erasers you used in small group??!!
The are little face scrubbers from the cosmetic aisle at dollar tree!
Hi Katie! I am a homeschooling mom to a 6 year old. I am absolutely loving your videos. I get so many fun activity ideas that I do with my daughter. The open/close syllable Monster party was part of our reading program. Thank you for sharing your knowledge, it's very much appreciated.
I am so glad it is helpful for you!! Thank you!!
These videos are good especially for first-time elementary school teachers like myself. U teach in Fla?? Wish u the best! ; ) lol
Hello. I saw those books, like There was an Old Lady who swallowed a Chick book and the if you Give a Pig a thing book. They're both parodies of There Was an Old Lady who Swallowed a Fly and If you Give a Mouse a Cookie. I don't swallow a real chick, but I only swallow a Peeps Marshmallow chick thing, so yeah.
And I also read The Berenstain Bears and Too Much Vacation book when I was in school when I was a little kid!

Katie ,
First off , looking good in your outfits on this video .
Second , good call with the stealing lesson because it's something that they really need to know . I have a cousin who does that and lies about it to try to get out of it and he is back and forth in jail .
Third , Have you ever thought about doing a video on your behavior management strategies because if you do not have one that works especially in this point of the year then forget it .
Keep handling it like a champ .
