Absolutely to the dry erase sleeve. I teach k2 math intervention so i make 6 copies of each practice page and put them in sleeves and i hardly ever have to make extra copies.
I second getting the bigger drawers for papers- not only can you stagger stack, like you mentioned, but you can also fit bigger paper like construction paper and even other supplies that don't fit in the smaller ones. That way you have everything ready to go!
I have a large visual wall timer countdown clock-that I have used all 12 years (so far). That I have taught. I started in 2nd grade and have ended up in 7th grade but I have used that timer with every age group. It’s the one thing I don’t think I could live without while teaching.
Thank you for the practical suggestions! I also benefit from having a personal paper cutter and laminator that have been life savers more times than I can count.
I'm entering my 20th year of teaching have gone through like a thousand dollars of my personal money on electric pencil sharpeners. I finally found one that also does coloured pencils that sharpens super well. The kids have free rein and haven't broken it yet. It stops as soon as the pencil is sharp. It never jams. AFMAT is the brand. It's not messy as the pencil enters the top not the side.
Great video and so helpful!! I would love a video on your house system. Our school is starting houses this coming year and I will be a house leader, so some tips would be awesome!
I am an old war horse, teaching from 1964 on, long retired now. Go girl, go. I asked our third grade teacher, we only had one teacher per grade - in a really small, rural school, what she liked about the third grade. Her answer was that she did not have to take them to the restroom because they could take care of themselves. She asked me what I liked about the 8th grade. I told her that I was still bigger than the students, but the girls often had a crush on me, which was a bit difficult. Usually, I was their first male teacher. There was a southern convention at that time, at least in the rural areas, about how to address a female student. In the lower grades, a teacher would call Mary, "Mary", but as she moved to the upper grades a male teacher might call her "Mary Elizabeth", using both her names. The student would then consider herself grown and act like a full-blown woman. The double name convention was a rite of passage for a girl to be recognized as an adult not a child. Although this was just a tactic to get a girl's attention, you could get more attention than you wanted. Oh, we had all of ten dollars for classroom supplies.
You have such good ideas. This is kina of a silly request, but I would love to see how you style your hair. I have the same cut, but I cannot seem to style it quite like you do. Maybe it's the hair brush. Anyway, I love you hair. I know you shower at night, but do you also dry your hair after your shower? You always look so put together.
They are actually called Friday Folders. It is what my school uses as parent communication folders. A parent volunteer comes on Thursday or Friday to put sorted graded papers and other school related flyers in the folders. Students take them home over the weekend, parents empty and sign behavior/AR check in pages, then students bring them back and put them in that cart on Mondays
