If the pencil box is on the supply list have them put a couple pencils and glue to keep in their book bag for homework

I do the sterilite bins in their cubby. I teach 6th grade so they have a binder with a zipper pouch for pencils. They keep all of the extras and anything they don't use daily in the bin and it is a great system!

I’ve done the sterlite bins in their desk for years and I will never go back! I reuse them every year, they hold up very well. You can use their pencil boxes that they already purchased for math tool kits. We ask them to bring a pouch instead of a box. They keep crayons in there. I also don’t do a lid, makes for easy access, they just pull it out like a drawer and then put it back in. I also did numbers on the side so they are easily visible. It made it so much easier so I didn’t haven’t to remake labels. Also if they ever forgot their number they could just check their bin.

If you are looking to replace the Sterlite bins year to year, you could let the students put their own name and design on the top with markers or create their own label/design on paper to tape to the side. They may care more for it as it is theirs.

I would have the students put the basics in their personal pencil boxes that they need daily and keep that in their desk. And if you have space to store the Sterilite bins, have then put all their extra supplies in there. Then when they run out of their pencil box materials they can go to their sterilite bin and replenish their personal pencil boxes or if you are doing a special activity or they have free time they can use their fun gel pens, etc. by just grabbing their sterilite container for that time period.

You could always print a label, laminate and hot glue their name so that it’s easy to change out year to year. I have mine numbered though.

Use their number. Then give them a piece of cardstock cut to fit that rectangle and let them write their name and decorate it and personalize their own box.

The Matte spray has made such a difference in this years prep. I couldn’t find any last year so I bought mine a month ago.

I use similar boxes for overflow for each student, and I call it their Walmart box. I have them put everything in there at the beginning, then I tell them what to pull out to keep in the pencil box at their desks. As the pencil box is depleted, they can go shopping in their Walmart box to replenish.

I know what you mean about having the birthday stuff ready. Something I started doing that has helped me not stress as much… I go ahead and fill out all the birthday certificates for all students and put them in order in page protectors in a 1/2 in binder. That allows me to grab and put them out in their table with the other items that I give. Praying you have a great year!

You may want to make sure there are no students who do not celebrate birthdays but other than that, very thoughtful idea.

Wat about having them create a name tag on paper and decorate and use double sticky tape and insert it in the inside of the container

I have found the same issue with the pencil boxes!! My grade level team and I decided to put the sterilite bins on the supply list. We just specified the size and what it was going to be for. We will see if they actually bring them instead!!!!!

    hello Mrs.Katie
First of all, I am very sorry if I disturbed you. I work as a primary school teacher in one of the Middle Eastern countries. The company I work for asked me to make a presentation about classroom design. I found your videos while researching on the internet, I watched them and I liked them very much. You can send me a power point or a document about the topics you have explained. Thank you very much for your help and cooperation. Thank you very much.
