I think the problem is how a strong woman is identified. Often times it’s loud, crass, argumentative, obnoxious, overbearing, and demanding women that are claiming to be strong women. I don’t identify as a strong woman but my strength comes from my ability to support, nurture, uplift, be resourceful, and create calmness in the storm. I dated a woman that created problems on purpose to see how I would react. If I said north she said south. If I said let’s walk she would say let’s sit down. I was raised by a single mother who taught me how to be a strong woman. She didn't know the the effects of that teaching because she did it out of love and wanted me to be able to do it on my own JUST IN CASE my situation turned into hers. I thank her for that but I'm also thankful for both of my grandmother's. My grandfather's on both my mom's and dad's side were present. They married my grandmother's and lived in the home so I also saw that dynamic. I'm an 80's baby so you know grandma's house was home. Even though my mom taught me what she taught me I EXPERIENCED something greater when I was around my grandparents. Both of my grandfather's were strong men and in their own right my grandmother's were also strong women but they understood their job in making the relationship/household work. Neither of my grandmother's worked a job in my childhood. Their job was to take care of home. Period. They both said that raising their kids and providing a good home for their families made them happy. They didn't have to bust their butts working a job then come home and work as a parent. They had one job and they were great it. I said all that to say that there is nothing wrong with having the tools you need to build the house on your own IF YOU HAVE TO but when someone comes along who is competent enough and capable enough to lead the project it's okay to put your tools down, sit on the bench and be the one to hand him the tools so he can build.

I was raised by a single mother who taught me how to be a strong woman. She didn't know the the effects of that teaching because she did it out of love and wanted me to be able to do it on my own JUST IN CASE my situation turned into hers. I thank her for that but I'm also thankful for both of my grandmother's. My grandfather's on both my mom's and dad's side were present. They married my grandmother's and lived in the home so I also saw that dynamic. I'm an 80's baby so you know grandma's house was home. Even though my mom taught me what she taught me I EXPERIENCED something greater when I was around my grandparents. Both of my grandfather's were strong men and in their own right my grandmother's were also strong women but they understood their job in making the relationship/household work. Neither of my grandmother's worked a job in my childhood. Their job was to take care of home. Period. They both said that raising their kids and providing a good home for their families made them happy. They didn't have to bust their butts working a job then come home and work as a parent. They had one job and they were great it. I said all that to say that there is nothing wrong with having the tools you need to build the house on your own IF YOU HAVE TO but when someone comes along who is competent enough and capable enough to lead the project it's okay to put your tools down, sit on the bench and be the one to hand him the tools so he can build.

When a woman's environment is made safe by the male. When her needs are met and her stress levels are decreased, her natural femininity, the desire to attract, nurture, support etc. comes out.
If she is left alone in an unsafe, stressful environment to raise her children, she is forced to enlist more masculine traits in order to survive that environment.
It's odd that men claim they want a feminine woman, but continuously leave her in environments that create the opposite and then criticize her for the masculine traits that THEIR disrespectful behavior brings out in them!

As a man, why am I expected to handle "A Strong Woman". Based upon past relationships and friendships, that is codeword for being difficult & disrespectful. From my experience handling a strong woman means you are to put up with her saying whatever, acting however, and doing whatever without any pushback from you. If you're not an individual who will put up with her antics, now all of a sudden you can't handle her. Nah, I'm good. I'll just find another woman that knows how to conduct herself better.

When a woman feels she is in a position where she is literally intimidating it's just so much easier to let her keep thinking that way. At that point men just become quiet and seem soft. They are strong personalities that are loud and aggressive and men are annoyed by them. Men can physically annihilate them into oblivion but that is not socially or legally acceptable. Having a conversation with them or negotiating with them is impossible since they don't listen even though they can clearly hear. To scream back at a chihuahua isn't going to solve anything since both parties will "bark" at each other for endless hours. So the most logical choice is to stay quiet and possibly walk off. Ironically, the chihuahua also thinks that you are walking away because you are intimidated. It's not that men are intimidated by strong women. It's that men choose other options because why should anyone have to deal with that when you don't have to?
Replace “intimidated by” with “completely turned off by”
A strong (man/woman): Voices their disdains and discontents WITH their partner.
An insecure (man/woman): Voices their wants and their insecurities ONTO their partner.
