Should You Purchase The Canon R8

For couple hundred bucks more you could get a used r6. Same layout as your r5 and pretty great video. And it would compliment the r5 with better low light.
I agree. I have been considering looking for a used R6.
I think the r8 is a great little camera. I would not buy it because I don’t want another battery type to deal with and I already have two r5s and an r7. I thought i saw another review saying you can get around the lack of a joystick by using the LCD screen to move the AF point. As a birder I don’t use the joystick much anymore. also, the r8 has less rolling shutter than does the r8, which is important to me. And it does at 40 fps, not for long, but you can feather the shutter button. I think it has in camera focus stacking, which is cool. Along with it video capabilities, that is a banging little camera. If you already have, and can deal with those little batteries, it seems like a nice deal, unless you are saving up for an r5 m2, in which case you’d best skip the r8. I think sony will force Canon to remove rolling shutter from the r5 m2, so that may be my one-and-done camera body.
I agree that the price is good for what you get in the R8. In my case it's missing one feature that is important for my style of photography. For others it may be different. Thanks for the comment.
